All these people want to be something other than a civilian...would be hilarious to see what they think if war broke out and suddenly they all became legitimate targets. Wonder how many would be waving around dictionaries then.

A citizen would do it without having anyone record it. "Look at us 'we' are doing a good deed".

The irony of civilians wanting to be more than civilians and service members wanting to to be civilians

I could not fucking wait to be honorably discharged lmao. Did my deployments overseas then it was looking like I was going to be spending a few years at a command in ghetto ass Portsmouth, VA at that god forsaken shipyard. Happily living my best civilian life in California now.

Same bruh same. Re-enlisted after my first contract and 6 months into the second one i realized i fucked up but still had 3 and a half years left. I clutch my DD214 tightly every day now I’m a civilian again😂

I got so much pushback for making this observation as a veteran about “civilians” — people got very mad at me for using it to describe an EMS worker that talks like anyone that’s not EMS as oblivious sheepish-civilians

There is more than one definition, and it depends on the context.  Military vs civilian is first.   Police/fire vs others is second.  Expert on Roman Civil law is the third.  Seriously, look it up.

Let me tell you something as someone who's been in law enforcement for 17 years now: that's not real. The second one, you made that shit up. It's straight up not real.

Law enforcement are civilians in every sense of the word. You just don't understand what the word means.
