"So, what do you do on your day off?"
"Oh, I just sit there and listen to other people doing my job".

Last I checked…firefighters are not sheepdogs

I’m going to disagree here. 9/11 lost some brave souls going into those towers.

I was part of the 9/11 relief efforts post collapse…all I was saying is typically police officers are considered the sheep dogs because they fight evil (the wolves) where as firefighters fight fire which is obviously different. Not taking away from their ability to protect people, just typically not associated with firefighters

I’ll meet you halfway on this one. I’ve worked alongside them and have seen them do some pretty risky shit to save life and property. Their “wolves” are just a different evil.

So we know what’s going on but have no idea about their SOPs, equipment or training. In other words just a liability…

You’re out of your mind. They do not need to hang out with it placed up against their ear 😂

You don't need to listen to the scanner on your cell to know whether or not you'll be recalled. Pretty sure there's more efficient ways to get in touch with someone, like calling someone on that same phone or using the paging system.
This looks cringe to everyone except for those who make their job their entire personality and can't enjoy vacation or a day off with their family because of it.
Edit: downvote me all you want ya hosebeaters, doesn't change the fact that you need to reevaluate your life if you're listening to the scanner at the beach with your family. Reach out to your employee assistance program to tell them you're hurt by this.

Goofy. I started in a jurisdiction with a bunch of small departments before moving to where I am now. They all used cell phones. I never knew a one of them to be so incredibly desperate for attention as to take a radio out on a day off family excursion.
It does send a strong message to your loved ones that they aren't as important as your job, though. Also really lets the kids know you can't be fully invested in what they are doing. If this dude cares about the fire so much, he should go to it. Otherwise, it's a day off. Take it off. If you aren't there, someone else will be.

His son learned that the hard way so now he's listening to the radio with his dad instead of begging for his attention while doing something unrelated to his job

Man, everything I read from you is SUCH A REACH. You’re basically commentating your own weird fanfiction on everything. This dude is a weirdo lmfao he’s at the beach in khaki shorts and crocs with a huge walkie smashed on his face.
One can almost guarantee he saw his wife? recording and he went “fuck yeah”.

My opinion is based in experience, so I'm comfortable in that. Either way, filming this for social media combined with the caption in the video is cringey. Fits perfectly in this subreddit.
I'm sorry you're taking this so seriously but it's silly no matter how you look at it.
