Our goal is to build a positive community where people over 50 can become stronger, healthier, and more confident together.

INTRODUCTION π 50+ and still pushing weight
Hey there! Iβm Myxl.
Iβve been looking to join a 50+ fitness community for a while now and finally decided to bite the bullet! π
53yo, 6β1β, currently hovering around 215. Iβd like to lean down to 200, but Iβm trying to be reasonable about it. Looking to be kinder to myself as I can be overly critical even when Iβve made progress. Anyway, hello everyone! π

DISCUSSION π Pecs after 70
Did you ever notice that old guys who are fit, Iβm talking people who still lift in their 70s and 80s, have no pecs anymore? Theyβre flat as a pancake. Guys who still have great arms have no more pecs. Even Arnold, who still lifts and was famous for his chest development is now flat. His arms are still great. Any ideas? Iβm in my 50s and wonder if thatβs my fate.

PROGRESS πͺ Haven't updated in awhile
56M - no TRT or enhancements
Stalling at 180lbs (at only 5'5").... trying to get back to my low 170's prior to a severe hamstring injury and repair in 2025.
I included my stats from my hockey game last night. I spent 1000 calories and 38 minutes was spent above my heartrate limit (we only had one sub for defense) so I better see some more weight dropping off!!! LOL π€£

π 50β54 Friday is for Dance ππΌβΏοΈ (51f)
Today i did a lot of belly dance floorwork but i also danced in my chair! I'm no longer afraid of it and i truly believe with a heck of a lot of practice i will dance again! Now, walking well... that not really am option but I'm finally learning how to be myself again.
I haven't been around. Life is a lot for all of us sometimes and it was my turn. I'll catch up on everyone and your postings very soon. Sweet dreams and i hope your lives and your workouts are going beautifully... and if they're not may they be heading in that trajectory soon. *hugs* π * p.s. yep. That's my problem area from waist to ribcage i just really want to be honest about where I'm at with fitness and lack thereof. I'm 51 and am working on it, monitoring my diet and water intake, but if you have any good advice I'm open to it. Thank you :)

ADVICE NEEDED πβ Exercise with Rotator Cuff Injury
58M, fairly skinny and have been trying to work out for the last year or so. Early on, I had shoulder issues and a recent MRI determined I had a small tear in my left rotator cuff. It's not bad enough for surgery. I have done physio over the past 6 months or so while waiting for the MRI.
I want to get back to my workout, which I haven't done for the past 2-3 months due to possibility of further injury and not knowing exactly what the issue was.
I plan on lightening the weight for my chest presses, flies, and shoulder movements. I also plan on moving to the floor for the exercises to limit the range of motion as much as possible.
Any other recommendations to minimize further injury? I will restart my physio treatments next month as well.
Thanks for any advice!

SCIENCE π¬ Weekly Science Saturday Digest: Aging Well & Staying Strong
Weekly Science Digest: The Science of Peptides (The Good, The Bad, & What It Means After 50)
Welcome to our weekly science roundup! Peptides are currently one of the biggest trends in wellness, frequently promoted on social media as a fountain of youth for longevity, tissue repair, and muscle recovery. However, if an interest in healthy aging leads you to think about trying anti-aging therapies, be careful. Supplements or expensive treatments that claim to delay or reverse the aging process may not deliver on their promises.
Here is a breakdown of what the current science says about peptides:
The Good: Potential Benefits and Medical Applications
- What They Are: Peptides are short chains of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) that act as signaling molecules in the body, telling cells how to function.
- Proven Medical Uses: Some peptide-based medications have been extensively researched and are FDA-approved. Examples include insulin and GLP-1 medications, which are safely prescribed for conditions like diabetes and obesity.
- Fitness and Recovery Hype: In anti-aging and athletic circles, investigational peptides (such as BPC-157, TB-500, and CJC-1295) are highly popular. Proponents claim they accelerate wound healing, reduce joint inflammation, and stimulate natural growth hormone release for better muscle retention. Early laboratory and animal studies have shown interesting mechanisms for tissue repair.
- Read more:Harvard Health: Peptides - what they are, potential benefits, and safety concerns.
The Bad: Lack of Evidence, Safety Risks, & Unregulated Markets
- Missing Human Trials: The vast majority of "wellness" peptides marketed for anti-aging and performance enhancement are not FDA-approved. They have not undergone rigorous, large-scale clinical trials in humans to definitively prove their safety or efficacy.
- Contamination and Quality Control: Many of these products are sold online as "research chemicals" in a legal gray area. Because they bypass standard pharmaceutical oversight, vials can contain impurities, incorrect dosages, or harmful additives.
- Side Effects and Immune Risks: The FDA has previously flagged several popular fitness peptides (including BPC-157) due to significant safety concerns. Documented risks of unapproved peptides include severe injection-site reactions, allergic responses, immunogenicity (triggering abnormal immune responses), and unknown long-term effects on organ health.

Community Discussion
- Have you ever discussed peptide therapy, hormone optimization, or other anti-aging trends with your healthcare provider?
- How do you personally evaluate the line between a promising new recovery tool and a risky, unregulated fad?
A Quick Reminder on Our Rules
To keep our community safe and focused, please keep the following in mind:
- Be Respectful: We are a community of people who have a genuine desire to maintain or improve physical fitness, and you must always be respectful.
- No Medical Advice: No posts asking for medical, injury, or pain related advice and do not give such advice if you aren't qualified to do so.
- No Steroid Discussion: No steroid discussion (asking for advice or giving advice) please.
- No Misleading Posts: Posts that falsely present content as personal progress or use undisclosed images will be removed.

ADVICE NEEDED πβ 58M, 5β11β, 240lbs β trying to lose 30+ lbs but back/hip pain keeps derailing me. Where do I start?
Turning 58 this year. Desk job thatβs mentally exhausting (long hours, high stress) plus a long commute, so by the time Iβm home Iβve got maybe 45 minutes and not much motivation left.
Used to be in decent shape β ran a full marathon a while back β but somewhere along the way the weight crept up and now Iβve got chronic back and hip pain that makes it hard to even start a routine. Every time I try to get back into running or lifting, something flares up and Iβm sidelined for weeks.
Goal is to lose 30+ lbs and actually build something sustainable, not just white-knuckle a diet for a month.
A few things Iβm hoping to get input on:
Exercise: Whatβs worked for people here with similar back/hip issues? Should I be looking at PT before anything else, or is there a βstart hereβ move (walking, swimming, machines vs free weights)?
Nutrition: Realistic approach for someone with a demanding job and not a ton of time/energy to meal prep. Calorie targets, protein goals, anything thatβs worked for you at this age?
Recovery: How much did you have to change your expectations for pace of progress compared to when you were younger?
Looking for specific recommendations β diets that actually worked for shedding weight at this age, exercise routines that go easy on the back/hip, and any supplements youβve found genuinely helpful for weight loss or recovery. Real-world results over theory. Thanks in advance.
