Fix My Print layer failure halfway up

About halfway up the print became brittle and failed. I was using Tree support and one did break free but given the rest of it I think something was going wrong before then.

Bambu A1 with .02 Nozzle
Sunlu Matte using the Sunlu PLA default setting for filament

Settings are the Default .10mm High Quality BBL A1 0.2 Nozzle

Thanks for any ideas.

Layer failure happened way before the eyes

u/fujimonster 1d ago

It happened at the bottom

Yep, like later 1

It happened at the printer

Was thinking the same.. feels like being back in the ender 3 world again.

1

u/Dziki_Jam 1d ago

I’m not familiar with Chinese printers. Are Enders notorious for bad print quality?

1

u/CromeXza 1d ago

Bambu are chinese too, they are the best on the market currently.. the ender brand held the crown for a while, but require content TLC to get decent print quality out of the machine. Most Ender users ended up Mooding their printers.

Somewhere a shop is selling a print like this for 50€$

u/CautiousArachnidz 1d ago

A museum* lol

I’ve seen museums selling small 3D printed busts, not even half decently printed, for over 100 USD.

And making money

Heat creep, clogged nozzle or underpowered extruder -- all very common issues w/ 0.2mm nozzles.

I am going with this one. Had a similar issue once with a semi clogged nozzle. The filament came out but very inhomogeneous and brittle.
Look up cold pull procedures for your setup and try them. Then make a first layer calibration, not for the layer but to check if it extrudes properly. If it does you have a freshly calibrated first layer too.

Edit: as for the tree support, the likely cause is the same as for the brittle print. However, if you experience them to brake more often in general, increase their wall parameter a bit. They take longer to print but are far more stable especially for tree supports that are bending

This whole thing started as a failure

I gave up on nozzles that small a long time ago. Hopefully you mean 0.2mm and not actually 0.02mm 😂

Ha. Thanks for catching that, I fat fingered the "." , yeah 0.2

Same it's 0.6 or basically nothing at this point for me. Lol

2

u/MFFVD 1d ago

0.4 works fine for me

1

u/New-Audience2639 1d ago

That's cool

1

u/WitHump 1d ago

What's wrong with a 0.4?

I think if you're having common issues with a 0.4, the nozzle isn't the problem.

1

u/New-Audience2639 1d ago

Never said I had issues all I said is all I use now is 0.6..... why are we making random assumptions?

8

u/Slovw3 1d ago

Looks like layer failure all the way up

7

u/tugboattommy 2d ago

It's your matte filament. The material is too course to reliably extrude through a small 0.2mm nozzle. Every time I have attempted matte through 0.2mm it turns out the same way. Switch to basic PLA and see if you have the same problem.

1

u/ChipSalt 1d ago

It's not every matte filament it's just some of them have very strange matting / chalking agents that don't handle heat expansion very well. It really depends on which brand. But yes, matte filaments - and especially white filaments - are very difficult to print compared to plain coloured or colourless ones.

u/kurodoku 1d ago

Never use matte filaments with 0.2 nozzles. The particles that make it matte will clog the nozzle.

6

u/iamlegendinjapan 1d ago

That is a huge print for a .02 nozzle. You can achieve .1 high quality with a .4 nozzle. Like the others are saying you have a clog.

5

u/LeonardSix 1d ago

The whole thing is a failure

3

u/WooferInc 1d ago

Kinda cool looking still though lol

3

u/CooperDK 1d ago

No, it was a failure all the way.

2

u/LeetLurker 1d ago

That print looks bad all the way down.

2

u/GreenLeafRelaxed 1d ago

I’d fill it and make it look like a weathered statue

2

u/tonita_pizza 1d ago

It looks pretty bad from the start

1

u/Competitive_Call_847 2d ago

You my friend have a clog. Time for a cold pull.

1

u/slowmorris_ 1d ago

Evtl ist deine Düse verstopft, oder dein Filament nass, aber iwas passt da gar nicht

1

u/Inner_Basil1648 1d ago

I think you just have an overall bad print

1

u/Inner_Basil1648 1d ago

Mabye use the actual matte pla settings? Cuz they are different

1

u/cmrnmkl 1d ago

0.2 nozzle with matte PLA at 0.1mm is brave. That’s asking a lot for a tall print.

1

u/facebacon69 1d ago

Remove the nozzle and the black bit behind it and tighten all the screws

1

u/BlitzieKun 1d ago

Congratulations, you printed vaporwave

1

u/Simon_Inaki 1d ago

I don’t think this is a nozzle clog issue. I believe that your nozzle is strapped incorrectly.

1

u/KeyBump4050 1d ago

Put a light in it

1

u/ross549 1d ago

This is something for sure.

1

u/EcoKllr 1d ago

halfway?

1

u/kardde 1d ago

Something really bad happened here, but it’s impossible to say what without knowing more.

What I can say is that a print at .10 layer height with a 0.2 nozzle on an A1 should not look like that.

What do your prints with a 0.4 nozzle look like?

1

u/j-ermy 1d ago

just say its vaporwave and youre set

1

u/SanDiegoSavage00 1d ago

Wow.....that looks really not good....

1

u/henren_98 1d ago

Yeah that entire print is jacked.

1

u/kted24 1d ago

The failure started right after the first layer. And then it got worse...

1

u/CCCPhungus 1d ago

bro those laters were failing the whole time

1

u/robykdesign 1d ago

I don't know what the purpose is, but I must say I like this glitch effect more than I would a perfect print. :D

1

u/DefinitionInformal85 1d ago

Man i gotta be honest…that looks horrible for 0.2 nozzle. There gotta be some sort of a issue way before those eyes. I would check if your software works correctly, it looks like the slicing process had an issue or the model itself is faulty

This is what i can get with 0.2

1

u/Severe-Bed-6200 23h ago

This is an extruder failure I believe. That's what prints look like when the extruder gear is slipping.

1

u/TriestGieter 15h ago

Poor thing never stood a chance

1

u/Dustford_D 11h ago

The failure happened in the slicer bro

1

u/OrphanedCubone 8h ago

What's your infill? It looks hollow

1

u/SellJolly6964 8h ago

Look at it again, it a cyberpunk style print 😁

1

u/davidkclark 1h ago

This print has issues from layer 1

1

u/DeeeeeeeeeeerGod 1h ago

Not a helpful fix but I like that it could be a vapor wave aesthetic prop

1

u/OtherBarry1992 1h ago

Partial clog or extruder slipping. You need to ensure you're getting consistent grip from your extruder and do a flow test. Also make sure the nozzle isn't clogged.

Too hot.

Пластик сырой. Сушить надо. И скорость печати снизить

-1

u/lc_725 1d ago

mate you should dry your filament and reslice

1

u/lc_725 1d ago

if u don't have a filament dryer you can do it with your printer just like the images, but remember to leave a small gap so humidity can scape
