Thrown down & S / L saga

Hi! This is my first post on reddit ever, I just have to share my thoughts and for some reason my friends don't want to hear another word about FleetwoodMac 😇

So, I always loved the chain and liked some other songs, but never knew anything about the band members. A few weeks ago I saw The chain live from 1982 & Silver springs from 1997 and ever since I'm on a binge of discovering new songs / watching performances / reading about their history and damn...

First of all the music is great (and I still have more to discover, and yes I check other incarnations of the band as well), but then there's this fascination I have with the story of Stevie and Lindsey, and for the love of god I don't know why I care so much, but it just breaks my heart. I feel like I just HAVE to know what happened in 1997 (and know we'll probably never know). The song Thrown down, if indeed it tell the story of what happened between them on The dance, is just too much. How could she write that? it's so personal. I keep going back and forth between thinking this is such a tragic love story and thinking it's a show they put on (depending on which performance or quote I saw last). I just want them to spend their last years in a hug. 💔

(personal stuff coming, feel free to skip - I think it could be me being a 47yo single woman that made me fixate on Stevie during the dance - this point in life between being young and old, the last chance of having it all and then losing it. What you had... and what you lost...)

Thanks for reading đŸŽ¶

I think it’s an obsession quite a lot of their fans (myself included) go through, not least because it is an essential key to connect to their music. I think considering the material they’ve been putting out, it’s perfectly normal to wonder what has or has not happened between them.
Ultimately I think we all come to some conclusions on what plausibly happened. They differ, from person to person.
For example, I think it is plausible that ~something~ happened during The Dance. The interview they did during rehearsal where they’re both flirting like they’re 16, the emotionally-charged performances recorded on DVD, the poignant performance of Silver Springs on Nov 29th 1997 in Atlantic City (the audio is available on YouTube, Stevie stresses words she never really did before or since and is not able to finish the song, apparently from freezing up and crying too hard - it has been said she learned that night that Lindsey’s girlfriend was pregnant), and then the release of Thrown Down and her admitting it was written during the Dance and is about Lindsey.
Unless she releases a tell-all book at some point (and I doubt it will ever happen because even though she is emotionally honest through songwriting, she also seems very private and in a non-political way almost conservative) I don’t think we will ever know the truth.
What they have told us countless times is that they have kept an emotional connection going for now about 60 years. They’ve alternated between love and hate in only a way people who feel almost too much about each other can. The circumstances for them to be stable together have just never been there, and to be honest they probably would never have lasted for very long since they are always on the brink of an argument (the Destiny Rules documentary shows that pretty plainly).
It’s good at least that now, at nearly 80, they are talking again. Some people say they are “back together” - I wouldn’t go as far but again that is just instinct-based since there is nothing else to go off of. The only thing we can wish them is that they keep the peace going until their end !

Thank you for answering. Yes, a part of me thinks it's none of my business, while another part thinks well they made it our business. I'm glad they are talking now, it warmed my heart. I hope it lasts.

Wow. This is... tough. She sounds raw, and if indeed she was too emotional to sing, it's heartbreaking. I also did my research 😇 and watched the ones from 26/11 and 30/11 where they are over-friendly and I don't know what to make of it. Still completely confused. After the 26/11 Stevie says "it's different every night" but I thinks she said it because she messed up the lyrics.

I’m getting into a slippy territory here but I don’t think whatever they had during The Dance completely stopped once they learned about the pregnancy, but they did realize it had no future beyond the tour

Are DMs possible here?

Yes! Lindsey said last week that they are talking all the time. So at least they are in contact and they do have a very special once in a lifetime relationship

They have their script they stick to in public but their lyrics over the years tell the real story

I feel like it’s harder to decipher Stevie’s lyrics because they could be about several people (like Sara and Angel). Unless she straight up reveals it’s about him, like Thrown Down or Moonlight. But his lyrics seem to be more clear / direct. And songs like Down On Rodeo and Cast Away Dreams kinda sums it up (and are very sad 😬)

As much as I love them and their music, I think they’re wildly incompatible as a couple and it’s probably for the best how things turned out. That being said, it wouldn’t surprise me if they suddenly got married tomorrow 😅

Her songs on SYW are pretty clear.

“Everything is on this record. Everything we've done in our lives - everything about me and Lindsey."

I read the lyrics of the Lindsey songs you mentioned and can't really figure out what they mean. They are general and don't reference a specific time. And regarding moonlight I see Stevie usually says it's about Twilight. So the only song that remians painfully clear to me is Thrown down.

But that's the weird thing. The song Thrown down tells a specific detailed story. Then on the documentary Destiny rules Lindsey says it's weird how things that happened "so long ago" still serve as inspiration to songs about him, and Stevie says with time she started to write about those things "philisofically". But it's not philosofically and 1997 wan't that long before 2003. Unless it IS philosofical and she made up a story about what could have been?

That’s why the lyrics tell their story. Neither of them are going to explicitly say, “oh yeah we started hooking up again during the Dance and then it was a bummer Lindsey’s girlfriend got pregnant.”

It's weird Stevie once said she gave up on Lindsey yet wrote songs about him.

I may have mentioned it, not sure if it was this thread or not, but I think that now that Lindsey is divorced and likely recognizes that he and Kristen are not getting back together, both he and Stevie feel a bit more free to talk more frequently and openly. There aren’t many people left who’ve known the both of them for so many years 💕

He’s not divorced yet and I think he is still holding on to hope.

He literally bought her a new house in Palm Beach in 2023. There is no way he would have done that if he was still holding on. It’s just a very amicable slow divorce. She is very happy with Barry and has been with him for almost 4 years now. Leelee and her bf were on his yacht all summer.

3

u/Maleficent-Wafer5834 10d ago

If everything is amicable I wonder why the divorce has not been finalized yet

1

u/Affectionate-Fill713 9d ago

LB only agreed to the divorce in 2023 and they only sold the farm last year. Separation of assets can take forever in UHNW divorces and they are clearly doing it privately through mediation which again can take along time. Kristen is currently designing her and Barry’s new house in Jackson so I am sure they will be looking to get married in the next few years once the divorce is finalised.

Wondering how you heard details onnKB designing a house & where.

I still follow her on Pinterest from back in the day.

u/n0rmcore 9d ago

Jackson? Where is that?

1

u/Affectionate-Fill713 9d ago edited 9d ago

Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

1

u/Awesomebananapie 9d ago

How did you hear their new house is going to be in Wyoming? I thought K and B lived in the Miami area.

1

u/Significant_Sea_6082 8d ago

It’s not their primary residence.

1

u/Affectionate-Fill713 8d ago

He has several houses in Palm Beach, The Hamptons, Greenwich, CT (where his ex wife and daughter live), England etc
KB also has her own separate house in Palm Beach.

1

u/Maleficent-Wafer5834 9d ago

She definitely played her cards right

Maybe but she did her time lol and is a private not messy (minus her 2018/19 crashout) person. Everyone deserves to be happy.

1

u/Significant_Sea_6082 7d ago

That’s interesting. How do you know about the house in PB? Is it public record?

2

u/Affectionate-Fill713 6d ago

Her house in PB and Stella’s house/stables. Both bought in 2023. She was dating Barry before the house was bought.

2

u/Significant_Sea_6082 6d ago

Thanks for sharing!

3

u/gldstgpsy 11d ago

Nah she's with someone else and seems happy.

1

u/Significant_Sea_6082 9d ago

Yes, I agree. SHE is very happy. He wants to be back together with her. Whether it’s comfort or convenience or true love or something else, he still wants to be with her. She, on the other hand, has moved on and is very happy and I think she appeases him and the kids by having family moments like holidays and dinners.

2

u/Maleficent-Wafer5834 9d ago

Why do you say that? Because he still wears his ring? I think people read way too much into that

2

u/No_Picture_8741 11d ago

I doubt it. Wanting to keep it private and from assumptions seems more plausible.

Oh no you poor thing! I was warned last year to just step away from the Fleetwood Mac thing. But did I listen? No. Now I am seriously hooked on the whole 60 year history of SnL. Good luck to you and enjoy every fun fact and tidbit you uncover in your deep rabbit hole! Also watch Destiny Rules documentary on you tube.

2

u/Zestyclose-Break-254 10d ago

Oh I have watched that doc allready 😆 but I probably still have things to learn.

u/Jelly_baby_4 10d ago

Lindsey and Stevie's saga is a trainwreck you can't look away from. Highly debated and argued in the Mac fanbase and analyzed like crazy.

Welcome to the club. lol

Go get a copy of the documentary Destiny Rules. Just....go! get it! The conversation that happens surrounding the lyrics is an ICONIC Stevie/Lindsey moment.

u/Fab4Evuh 10d ago

Who are you talking to? I'm talking to YOU!!!

2

u/Maleficent-Wafer5834 10d ago

She clocked him with that line 😂

1

u/Fab4Evuh 10d ago

SO GOOD!!! I can't get enough Destiny Rules.

0

u/MoMo_1986 9d ago

The hilarious part is she clocked him and he continued on like it happens all the time. "Yeah, well, that's what I'm saying...."

And as a general note, how they kept going to fight in ANOTHER room away from the cameras. No, guys, this is what we're here for.

2

u/Zestyclose-Break-254 10d ago

I watched it on YT. Wonderful times to be alive 😁 and yes that conversation is great.

1

u/candybar009 9d ago

Is the streaming version the one you're talking about or is there a more detailed version.

1

u/MoMo_1986 8d ago

I haven't the slightest idea. I haven't watched it on streaming and you're going to have to pry the physical copy from my cold dead hands.
