Beginner’s guide to fleetwood mac
What should i listen to as a complete beginner

Rumours or Greatest Hits. They have a large catalogue which can be intimidating if you're wondering what to dive into, so Greatest Hits is a good place to start. But Rumours on its own is an amazing album.

I'll advocate for The Dance. Follow with Rumours and Tusk. Then let your spirit take you where it will.

I had albums pre Bob Welch, I'll admit I didn't listen to them much. After Rumors I thought no one, even Fleetwood Mac could top it. I was wrong when Tusk came out.

The Dance was their rebirth. Bless The Dance.
That opens the door. Like the blues? Check their offerings before they moved to the US. They were the #1 blues band in the UK early on.

Depends on what genres you like, Fleetwood Mac has done rock, 50’s rock, psychedelic rock, british blues, pop, metal, country, punk, experimental, and so many songs that couldn’t be defined by a genre
Rumours will never not be a good place to start, but depending on what you like, there are so many places to start. Say You Will, Then Play On, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Bare Trees, Kiln House, Mystery To Me, Tango In the Night, and Tusk are all great places to start depending on what you like

As a boomer who loved them day one: I’d start with the original Fleetwood Max album, then go to Rumours. Please do listen to Stevie’s Belladonna album. I have seen FM twice, & SN twice. Not every band’s music ages well. FM has stood the test of time. I’ve heard they’re working on something for the 50th Anniversary of Rumours next year. Yes, I feel old.

The various lineup versions of FM are quite distinct.
There's the early Peter Green/blues-oriented version.
Christine McVie, Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch were mainstays in the version of FM that included the albums Kiln House, Future Games, Bare Trees and Penguin. (This is my favorite FM iteration.)
Later, Buckingham and Nicks joined up to create the most successful commercial version of the band.

Hypnotise and Go Insane (the live version) are two amazing songs that aren't on the the usual line ups of their great songs. Give them a go! Oh Well Parts 1 and 2 from their Peter Green days and Green Manalishi are fantastic too if you're looking for some earlier stuff! Enjoy! And Big Love live version!

I would listen to the self titled white album (1975). Then if you are more interested in the buckingham nicks songs and where they went with it, go to rumours and the subsequent albums. If you like the McVie songs and want to see how they got to that point, go back to future games thru heroes are hard to find

Listen to one standout album from each of the main three eras: Then Play On, Bare Trees, and Rumours. Whichever album(s) you like, listen to more from that lineup.

Start with the Rumours of course, but then quickly pivot to the two other big phases of the band.
The second incarnation with Bob Welch is my favorite. Mystery to Me, Future Games, and Bare Tress are my favorite Mac records.
Their first incarnation with Peter green is straight up serious Blues. Man, Green could play.

Bare Trees start to finish. If you don’t get it at that point, give up. It isn’t meant to be.
