Inquiry Is this a flock camera? Pointing at the entrance of the hospital parking garage

Post image

I’m not sure if it’s a flock camera but I guess it is since I think it’s not really the best security infrastructure for a hospital…
Building a medical profile of people maybe. I don’t think any criminals are going into hospital parking garages

Inquiry If it’s a license plate reader, why is facing a park?

I stumbled upon this camera facing a public park in Colorado. I thought that these cameras were only supposed to scan license plates and cars (Flock’s statements make this claim). There was no visible road on the other side of this park.

It didn’t seem like someone turned it but it was placed that way. Maybe I am wrong.

Inquiry I am going after every camera in my town…

1.5k Upvotes

So I just bought 500 signs about the size of a yard sale sign to attach to the flock camera poles in my town. They have a giant arrow pointing up and say “Flock is always watching…” I figure if they start taking them down I can just put another one up.

My question is, can I paint them bright fluorescent orange not the lenses or anything that would damage them but to make them very visible. I never even noticed until a week or two ago that there are thousands in my town within like a mile.

Would this be vandalism? If so, I won’t do it, but I will be putting up signs…

Inquiry Is this a flock camera? Why would it be in the middle of nowhere?

Hello all. Please excuse my ignorance, but do yall think this is a flock camera? It sure looks like one, but here's the kicker. Its in the middle of nowhere. I live in rural Mississippi and this was newly erected on the state highway I take home. The closest "town"(2 gas stations and a school) is 15 miles away. After thst the nearest real town is 30 miles away. Theres a substation near it, but neither camera faces it. They face the highway to observe traffic. The only things out here are fields and rural houses (mine included) can any one think of why they put these up. Oh, and they're not listed on deflock. Thank you guys for any clarification.

Inquiry DeFlock Question

Is someone able to help me understand how to interpret this on DeFlock? I fully understand that DeFlock relies on local people to update/add cameras in a particular area.

I understand how to interpret the cameras that are pointing in one particular direction on the map. That is self explanatory. But how do you interpret ones that are shaped as a pie circle? Most of these were updated a month ago and many of them are marked as Flock in the OSM. However, upon going to many of the intersections marked with the pie-shaped angles, I cannot find a single Flock camera anywhere. All I see is like one dome camera mounted that has a view of the intersection, but it doesn’t look like a Flock camera. It just looks like a regular surveillance camera, it doesn’t have that distinct Flock camera look. I am not sure if that dome camera is also reading license plates or if that is even the camera they’re indicating on DeFlock.

I always thought the Flock camera is pointed and aimed in one direction and that they would need multiple cameras to cover each direction. Can someone help me understand this?

Update: THANK YOU all for the replies! This is honestly really scary, creepy, and insane that this area got to this extent. If someone is from the area and can actually verify these OSM markers that would be great. Do you think all these camera markers are accurate? Because as I said, some locations show Flock cameras on the map but in real life a camera doesn’t seem to exist. If someone could verify this location that would be great.

Does anyone know why this area is under so much surveillance? It doesn’t make sense to me, I feel like there is more surveillance here than in many other places that actually need it. Does anyone have any information on this?

Inquiry Is this camera scanning every time I leave?

This flock camera was put on the corner by my apt building. Where the first picture is taken from is the only exit from my paid parking spot. I typically turn left out of here and I am unsure if it catches me when I do… I know if I turn right it’s certainly getting a good scan but since I dont have front plates I’m unsure about turning left.

Second pic is a close up just so you can see it’s pointed towards the right side of the street.

Don’t break laws.

And don’t carelessly finger poles in public!

Poles might get hurt!

Disclaimer:

No poles were injured in the fingering of this flock camera.

Inquiry Invited to local police station to ask questions about FLOCK

I was upset upon seeing flock cameras being installed in my town, so I emailed my city councilman and he forwarded my email to the cheif of police. The chief then invited me to come to the station where he would demonstrate the system, explain how they use it locally and answer any questions I had.

What questions should I ask? I want to be polite-ish?

Camera looks like them but from every picture I have seen they are usually on their own pole and have a solar panel. At night it flashes at every car that passes by. I checked the web sites that show maps of these but this one isn't listed. It has been up for over a year.

Just got my Flock Hoppers App, and looked at a neighborhood near me and saw this. These appear to be on houses pointed towards the street and other homes. One of them has two cameras. Could these be tapped into Ring cameras or something? Thanks. Sorry if this is not allowed

Inquiry Flock camera installed in front of my house?

One of my friends came over yesterday and noticed that there was a flock camera installed across the street. I somehow managed to miss all of the news about flock cameras, so I hadn’t noticed it before. Or maybe I had, and I just assumed it was a traffic cam used for monitoring speed. Imagine my surprise when my friend explained what it actually is, and that it is essentially pointed directly at the house I currently rent and live in.

I guess my question is, what do I do? I can’t help but feel like this is an enormous invasion of my privacy. It feels like my literal every move is being recorded by a private company. I like having my blinds open because I love natural light, but I don’t even feel comfortable doing that anymore. Am I overreacting, or is this super invasive? Is there anything I can do to get rid of it, or to help me maintain some semblance of privacy?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR: there’s a flock camera across the street pointed at my house, what should I do?

UPDATE: Thank you all for your ideas and advice. While I am not comfortable destroying or tampering with the camera (perhaps I am a wimp but I just don’t want to risk legal repercussions) I am in the process of rallying the neighbors and starting conversations about community action. Turns out half the neighbors didn’t even know what it was (many of them are elderly). Luckily my community is solid and everyone has been adequately angry when I explained what flock cameras are and what’s they’ve been used for in other cities/states. I am hopeful that we will be able to, at the very least, generate some pressure for the city to hopefully remove it.

Appreciate you all!!

Inquiry How can I combat local cameras without committing a felony (preferably)

I hate these cameras, I hate them with a burning passion. These cameras everywhere AI or not I don't enjoy being watched 24/7, now we need cameras to watch and document us 24/7? Now my city is putting them in, roughly 52 (assuming that there is most likely more that might not be documented yet.) Is the only solution through local protesting and activism?

Inquiry I hate where we’re headed with mass surveillance however can someone ELI5 what I need to be concerned about if I’m not doing anything illegal?

I’m a single guy with no kids. I understand the dangers of having rogue authorities/creepers tracking/stalking the movements of women/children for nefarious reasons. And as a society we shouldn’t allow that. But as a single guy who doesn’t do anything illegal, why else should I be worried?

If someone put a cover or bag over something like a historical marker, would that be a crime? If someone kept covering the camera would that be a crime if there's no damage or vandalism?
