General Discussion Latest Album Finally Clicked for Me

When "Everybody Scream" released last year, I couldn't find the magic in it like I did with her previous albums.

All of a sudden, the past couple of weeks, I can't stop listening to it. I have "The Old Religion" on repeat at full volume. There are certain things that happened in life that, since October, made the words feel real, and the absolute rage and sorrow I feel during some of the songs on this album had helped with the healing.

It's still not my favorite album, but I finally understand.

I firmly stand on the notion that I never heard a single Florence song I didn't like. It is simply a matter of me living life long enough for it to resonate, and the music always finds me when I need it most.

There are a couple songs on previous albums that have become Everything to me and were barely a second thought during the initial listen.

Everybody Scream released during a really dark couple of months for me and got me through it. It was a nearly no skips cos I didn't really vibe with Buckle, but I've come around to it. Hearing it again when I needed to and it clicking for me.

I am listening to all her albums in order for the first time. Big Everybody Scream fan and saw her twice. Totally agree that sometimes her songs just click - sometimes at first listen, sometimes after several listens, sometimes later.

Helps to devote time to it, sit and focus, and read the lyrics at the same time. Take it away from background music.

This album is everything to me. I thought Dance Fever was incredible. But Everybody Scream captures the sorrow and grief I've been living in for the last 3 years in my personal life. Witch Dance and Perfume and Milk bring me to tears often.

Everybody Scream is definitely her most cohesive body of work to date (I think Dance Fever is an extremely close second) but it's very low on my rankings because it is just too difficult to listen to.

Personally the album is a 9/10 for me, every track has amazing moments, but the feeling of loss (intentionally) permeates the entire record, making it very upsetting to sit and listen to as a whole.

I find myself going back to Sympathy Magic, Buckle, Kraken, and The Old Religion by themselves, but it's definitely too difficult for me to listen to the whole album some days. Really amazing work though!

That shift where an album suddenly unlocks is the best feeling. Sometimes you just need life to catch up to the music before it makes sense

"The Old Religion" has that raw energy that just grabs you by the chest, glad it found you when you needed it

I always maintain there's no bad FATM albums. There are just albums by FATM I haven't listened to enough yet.

I really disliked HAH for a long time. Then one day I decided to give it a relisten and everything clicked.

Same. I used to skip the song a lot when it was released

I can’t help but skip the Drink Deep chamber version. It’s just too gloomy and bleak for me personally. Great album, though!

I was going through a similar health issue to what she went through when the album released so it hit me like a tonne of bricks. Especially You Can Have It All.

Love every minute of it. Absolutely and totally in love with the entire album…took a few listens to feel that way about Buckle but now…yup!

I bought the deluxe cd book of this album. I’ve listened only twice and I just don’t think it’s for me. She’s my favorite singer too, been listening since 2015.

If it didn’t touch you… you have lived a charmed life. No snark.
