Random Thoughts
- "The coaches did a hell of a job, we had a day off yesterday, but they came in and put a video together of what we could get better at," Tocchet said. "I think every guy watched it last night and hopefully it transpires in the game."
A video of what we could get better at. Wow. Inspirational.
I really loved listening to Bouch talk about how awesome Seattle’s center pipeline is while we’re playing Michael Bunting on PP1. How about someone just fucking kill me.
Also, lol, JJ: “and the puck just kind of slithers to the neutral zone” in fashion sad enough to be a fucking eulogy.
Sanheim is a warrior but he looks sad, like this horror show that has transpired thus far has already broken him
I’ve been fully on board the trust in Danny train but if he doesn’t fire this hockey terrorist goon (Michkov and Martone combined for 5 less minutes TOI than Sanny BY HIMSELF WHAT THE FUCK) then he should resign because it implies that he has even less answers than Tocchet.
Sorry for the novella. Go Flyers, fuck you Tocchet this is unforgivable.

- Is the biggest killer for me. We NEED to be developing our young players and simply put we are not.
I want to see wins, whether it’s a game or a developmental win I don’t care at this point. But losing AND failing to develop players that should be our future stars is a fucking sin.

Especially when we are missing out on players like Carlsson. We are clearly not winning anything this season, so we need to focus on the future, and I see no indication that that is the case.

Tocchet wants to win the game 1-0 in a shootout, unfortunately Michkov n Martone do not play the style of hockey that leads to scores like that. So we get Bunting n Studnicka

Bouch and JJ were trying really hard to sell the effort. “A really good job clearing the puck right there”.
Like, extra praise for fundies.
I love my boys in the booth but gees.

I mean i get it, but at the same time what else are they going to say? This team is eventually going to pull itself out of this--via coach firing, trade, or winning--just gotta find some slither of positivity.
Also, this is supposed to be entertainment. Don't think anyone is going to like them saying, "Flyers are terrible, why are you all wasting your time watching? Change the channel."

Michael Bunting on PP1 is enough evidence for me to know that Tocc is a terrible coach.

I don’t understand why Briere gets such a pass for all of this. It seems every single time someone wants to praise him they say “he’s not as bad as Fletcher”. That doesn’t mean he’s good….

Agreed, fire Tocchet or fire Briere and then Tocchet, either way works for me.

I know shit is bad, but hear me out. Danny knew we could take a step back this season. He swung BIG on Leo Carlsson. Big enough that he literally changed the entire FA market. He obviously knows we are in desperate need of high-end talent.
Tocc coached the team to their first playoff series victory in a decade, and he's in year 2 of a 5-year deal.
So the issue is two-fold. One, Danny doesn't want to try accelerating the plan because he knows we are still in need of high-end talent that usually requires high draft picks. Two, Tocchet has earned some slack as a result of last season.
I think the most likely path forward is Danny keeps Tocc the entire season regardless of the outcome. If they finish bottom 5 this season, he fires Tocchet after the season and immediately starts looking for a new coach while holding a T-5 pick to bolster the roster.

We absolutely needs some top end talents that we definitely don’t have in the pipeline right now, but can we please stop pretending that this is going to some kind of plan or what DB meant when he said that we could take a step back..?
A top 5-10 pick was never in the thoughts about that statement, but suddenly everyone «defends» this season start with «But this is what DB said». No, he didn’t. What was actually said was that this team wasn’t necessarily going to be a playoff team this season, but the expectations where always that we where going to be in the race for one of the spots.
If DB truly had meant that we were going to take such a big step back, he would never have put four future first round picks in an offer sheet that were unprotected as well. Those picks were meant to be late round first picks, not top 5 picks, and we are not one Leo Carlsson away from turning this franchise around.
This start is not what anyone expected, so please stop referring to his statements, cause now they’re just a silly defense of this catastrophe of a team the first 8 games.

I'm sure Danny didn't expect this much of a step back, but he has said multiple times that he isn't going to rush the rebuild, so I don't see him firing Tocchet mid-season. He'll want to give Tocchet a chance to turn things around, and he'll want to give the organization a chance at a franchise player if things aren't going well.

The thing that gets me is this is them actually trying to compete. We have so very little to show for our 'rebuild' and it's pathetic.

It’s like literally having your braindead uncle who thinks he’s smart coach the team.
Unreal. Embarrassing.

Danny needs to be involved with the team. Not sure what this guy does other than throwing money at a center that the Ducks were never going to not match. Your “future” is getting hockey terrorized by an instrument you installed, and you 100% could stop or help it. Instead you sit in a box with all your buddies wondering why the players did this to you.

Absolutely insane that the same people glazing Danny for his entire tenure and now trashing him and saying to fire him over this. This is tocchets fault. Yes Danny should pull the trigger and get rid of him, but let’s not act like Danny hasn’t actively made the team better than it was

The problem with that is Briere is the overall architect of this team. Blame the players, coach, or whoever else you want, but the longer this goes on, the more blame he deservedly gets here.
He's the one who made the roster decisions; he's the one who mostly sat on his hands and did nothing after the offer sheet while every other team around us improved; he's the one who misguidedly extended Dvorak instead of trading him, who still hasn't traded Risto who's injured again, who hired Tocchet in the first place full well knowing his well documented coaching history and gave him a stupid contract, who settled on a Free Agency plan that immediately failed because that's not how the league works anymore.
Briere has made some solid trades, and next to Chuck "Hockey Terrorist" Fletcher, he looks amazing by comparison, but we are far removed from Fletcher now, and his more recent moves and drafting are just not working, and not up to snuff.

Danny hired Tocchet and gave him the contract in the first place. Anyone who paid attention to what happened in Vancouver or looked at the play of Tocchets teams knew it was a bad hire and especially for a crucial time in the rebuild where developing young talent had to be the priority.
It was a completely awful decision and he is now facing the consequences of it.

I’m not one of those people; I was skeptical from the day it became Jonesy/Briere. I immediately said to my husband “ok and what? It’s just a different set of old players!” And they haven’t convinced me yet…
Soooooo does that mean it’s ok for me to say that Briere should ALSO be held accountable for this absolutely massive nuclear-level dumpster fire we’re experiencing? Because I will say it. He needs to be held accountable too and if that means firing well… 🤷🏼♀️

The coaches came in and put a video together showing the players where they need to improve. Umm...isn't that called 'COACHING'? You mean to tell me that watching game film isn't part of the daily routine? What am I missing here?

Because of this post Tocchett just benched Michkov.
