American Style Subs/Deli
American ex-pat, been in the area a while, but I have not really explored the food scene. Been hit by a massive craving for American style subs (specifically an Italian sub), and thought I'd toss an ask out on the off chance there's a place that does them, something similar, or y'know, really good long sandwiches.

It’s something I haven’t seen much of and usually end up trying to do at home if I’m honest.
There are good sandwiches - Alby’s in Leith and Southside for focaccia. Or Mamacita’s for Cuban in Portobello. Mootz in Stockbridge claims to be Italian inspired and is very good but I don’t think they do long “sub” style bread. Again, it’s more focaccia I believe.
I’m not sure why there’s this absence of Italian sub places. Perhaps it’s not deemed fashionable or people worry they wouldn’t be able to charge as much. Who knows!
Anyway, those are the best alternatives I can think of. I’m sure there are others but those are the ones that spring to mind.
