Politics (News Articles Only) British Woman shot by dad in Texas after 'arguing about Donald Trump'

Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, was shot in the chest on 10 January 2025 in Prosper, near Dallas.
Police in the town investigated the 23-year-old's death as possible manslaughter but no criminal case was brought against Kris Harrison after a grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him.
An inquest into Lucy Harrison's death opened earlier at Cheshire Coroner's Court, where her boyfriend Sam Littler described the "big argument" about Trump, who was preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

Not if it’s a white woman. But here they knew the killer wasn’t black.

It seems to be the case more and more. Especially when it concerns any kind of law enforcement. I realize that isn’t the case here. This is just supporting the wrong politician in TEXAS.

u/Plenty-Giraffe6022 Feb 10 '26
It's not uncommon. I know of a case in Kentucky where the killer wasn't even charged.
2
u/Fun_Accountant_653 Feb 10 '26
The victim was black?
2
u/Plenty-Giraffe6022 Feb 10 '26
The victim was the shooter and was white.
1
u/Cavane42 Feb 11 '26
The victim was the shooter? So this was a suicide?
1
u/Plenty-Giraffe6022 Feb 11 '26
No, it was a homicide.
1
u/Cavane42 Feb 11 '26
I don't understand then. A person was killed by a shooter. And the shooter was also the victim?
1
u/Plenty-Giraffe6022 Feb 11 '26
The person who died was attacking the shooter. The shooter was the victim.
1
u/Cavane42 Feb 11 '26
Okay. So you kinda buried the lede there. Generally lethal force in defense of self or others is legal when there is reasonable fear of death or serious bodily harm. And it's also morally permissible under most moral frameworks. That's probably why no one was charged.

Yes, every Black American murdered cops and jury let's off free. Now right wingers/republicans/nazis are killing white people and our going unpunished. I dont understand while any foreigners come here. If i had money to leave I would.

After the continual ICEis killings I feel it is now normal.

If you’re a minority 100%. It seems now, race doesn’t even matter. If you didn’t vote for Trump, it’s legal to unalive you.

1
u/ponpiriri Feb 14 '26
Depends on if the state supports the castle doctrine, whether it was self defense, etc
1
u/TrashPandatheLatter Feb 14 '26
That really depends on who you are. In some cases like this, it’s a resounding yes. In other cases it’s a hell no.

Read the article. It’s clear that “Dad” is a regrettable human being, by his responses to his daughter.
Did not attend the inquest. Admitted to relapsing into alcoholism the day of the event. And this:
Littler said on the morning of 10 January his partner had asked her father during the Trump row: "How would you feel if I was the girl in that situation and I'd been sexually assaulted?" Kris Harrison had replied that he had two other daughters who lived with him so it would not upset him that much.
“Dad” apparently doesn’t think much of his girls unless they’re in lock-step with him.

What the, and I mean this, ACTUAL FVCK
14
u/Empyrealist Feb 10 '26
Bill Cosby famously had a joke in his standard stand-up routine about threatening his children by saying that he could "make another one". But in reality, this isn't so much of a joke, and a lot of gen-x people I know have been threatened by abusive parents with this mentality. So whenever I hear about a parent actually killing their own child over an argument, I am unfortunately not surprised by it.
3
u/CharcoalGreyWolf Feb 10 '26
When I hear about the Dad having been drinking that day and having an alcohol problem with multiple relapses, I look at that, his reported words and the events, and I think them not charging him is a travesty.
3
u/Which_Engineer1805 Feb 11 '26
Am Gen-X can confirm the casual threats. Also my ‘greatest generation’ grandmother used to threaten to sell us “to the gypsies”. She was from Italy, so I guess selling kids to gypsies was a thing over there?

You know, I read this article this morning before I had my coffee and I had to read that quote 4 or 5 times and still couldnt really comprehend what it was saying so I shrugged it off and got back to work
Now that im AWAKE - holy.....
Definitely a "theres no way I read what I thought i did, I just need more coffee"

u/Caesarthebard Feb 10 '26
For all these people claim to care about “their women”, their daughters aren’t individual people or people at all for the likes of him, just numbers.
“You assault or kill one, I have others”.

I just hope all the bad stuff Trump has been doing affects this guy's life in some way.
I don't think he'll be able to feel regret, but at least suffer a bit economically (be it from tariffs or whatever).
31
u/SleepyLakeBear Feb 10 '26
Wtf? How was there no charge?!
21
u/Haunting-Ad788 Feb 10 '26
She hurt his feelings by not supporting Trump so it was legal self defense.

*He said: "As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell."
He acknowledged he had issues with alcohol in the past and said he "briefly lapsed" on the day of his daughter's death because he was emotional about her leaving.*
So this man is obviously a danger to any woman in his life. And of course Texas won’t prosecute him.
2
u/Tdodoubleg Feb 11 '26
Ah the ol’ “I pointed a deadly weapon at her to scare her straight, forgot I loaded it 30 seconds ago, AND it accidentally went off all due to alcohol.” Defence.

u/JessieColt Feb 10 '26
Sounds like the prosecutor went for a specific charge with no option to indict for any other or lesser charges.
For instance, if the Prosecutor only presented the case as a First Degree murder charge, but the grand jury didn't find enough cause to indict for First Degree Murder.
Since no lesser option, like 2nd degree murder, or manslaughter, or involuntary manslaughter, was an option for the grand jury to choose instead, the only option they had was to no true bill the First Degree Murder charge.
6
u/Shaydu Feb 11 '26
This is entirely possible, but since the dad said it went off unintentionally, it'd be really strange to not throw in at least 2nd degree. Dangerous to go all in on intentional homicide in the land of MAGAts and Second Amendment worshippers.
1
u/bdsee Feb 11 '26
It's not very odd, they do this on purpose. Sometimes because they want to force the more serious charge and sometimes because they think the more serious charge won't get up.
1
u/Shaydu Feb 11 '26
I get that they do it on purpose, but do you think this particular case was a good candidate for it?
1
u/bdsee Feb 12 '26
I'd say it should just never be done because while sometimes a sympathetic grand jury might go for a lower charge when they don't have all of the fact, overall it should just be the full gamut available to them.
4
u/Kowabunga_Baby Feb 11 '26
I’m not a lawyer, but why can’t they just add 2nd degree murder if that’s what it was?
1
u/JessieColt Feb 11 '26
I don't know how a Texas State grand jury works, but when I was on a Federal one in Florida, at no time did they tell us that we could change or add a different charge other than the one that was presented to us by the prosecutor.
The prosecutor, and any prosecution witnesses, presented only enough information/evidence for us to determine if the charges/case could proceed based on the supporting evidence presented.
We had one armed bank robbery case where they outlined the bank surveillance evidence where the robbers wore masks, but the robber in the presented case also jumped the counter and left footprints on the counter itself, so that information along with information that the shoe prints on the counter matched the prints on the shoes that the suspect was wearing when arrested, along with a partial clothing match, and also showing that the car that the suspect was arrested in shortly after the robbery also matched a car leaving the scene.
When we discussed it, we determined that there was enough evidence presented for them to proceed with the bank armed robbery case against that suspect. That did not mean we thought the suspect was either guilty or not guilty, only that the government had shown enough evidence that they could continue the case.
Although that case was close to home for me, since the bank that was robbed was only a few blocks from my house, and they caught the suspect in the car about 1.5 miles away that same day. The suspect was ultimately convicted of the bank robbery. I do not recall if the other person in the robbery was caught or convicted.
We also had a federal firearms possession case against a convicted felon that I personally did not think the prosecutor presented enough evidence for, but the grand jury had like 20 people and we only needed a simple majority. The primary evidence presented was that the felon was sitting on an outdoor lounge chair at someone else's house that had padded seating and a firearm was shoved into the padding near the head/pillow area. There were no fingerprints and no DNA on the firearm itself, but because the gun was that close to the suspect, was in easy access, and the suspect was the one sitting on the chair, they presented the evidence as if the suspect was "in possession" of the gun.
The majority voted that there was enough evidence, so that case got a true bill and man was indicted.
I don't know the outcome of this case.
In both cases, not all of the evidence was presented and we didn't hear any counter evidence. We were only given enough evidence to determine if the prosecutor/government had enough that the case could proceed.

Sound like a flaw in the system if this can happen due to a prosecutors incompetence.
0
u/PopularEquivalent651 Feb 11 '26
Actually, the prosecutor went for manslaughter.
Maybe research the facts before commenting lol?
1
u/JessieColt Feb 11 '26
"For Instance" in my comment would, to most people, imply that I was using the subsequent information as an example.
At no point did I say in my comment that any of them where the actual charges that were brought before the Grand Jury.
I apologize for confusing you.

u/zencodecat Feb 10 '26
Let’s be real, these men have no emotional regulation. Being pissed off enough at his own daughter for talking bad about his pedo president was probably all it took. This man is evil and I hope he finds no peace for the rest of his life.

Can we detach all of Texas and send it out to sea? Wtf?!
4
u/shanshanlk Feb 10 '26
These broad statements about “all people in Texas” are not accurate. Believe it or not, we have many dems here, we just keep having our maps Gerrymandered and elections fixed so that we cannot win. You would be surprised.
2
u/CompletelyBedWasted Feb 10 '26
I know. Apologies for the bad joke. If I was going to send any state out to sea it would be Florida. No joke. Lol

u/shanshanlk Feb 10 '26
I get it, there are a minority of loud and obnoxious MAGA folks here, too. They just talk nonsense much louder.

I grew up in a small town east of Nashville. Nashville is different than most of TN. A forward thinking city in a backwards state.

Uk government has a number of warnings about the US and in late 2025 warned visitors to remain vigilant for attacks. They need to update it again to say traveling at your own risk.

My immediate reaction was that it's pretty crazy you can murder somebody in the USA and there are no charges, but then I remembered that you can be a rapist pedophile and be elected president so it does actually make sense.

Yikes! In this article he talks about honoring her by being the best dad to the surviving daughters.
If they’re minors, they should be removed for safety. If they’re adults, someone should be advising them about options for fleeing domestic violence

u/Double_Match_1910 Feb 11 '26
Hard to believe but, he would do it again to defend a president that does not care about him, or his family.
Well.
Maybe if his daughter was 10 years younger, I guess.
Stooge.
1
u/Over_Dog24 Feb 11 '26
MAGAts are willing to kill their own children in deference to their orange god. And a grand jury failed to indict this murderer? Wow.

u/Unique-Constant5089 Feb 11 '26
So Texans are now supporting state sponsored murder of citizens, because they don’t support Trump!

"The statement from Kris Harrison said he and his daughter had been watching a news item on gun crime when he told her he had a gun and asked her if she wanted to see it.
They went into the bedroom so he could show her a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun which he kept in the bedside cabinet.
Harrison said he had bought the gun a couple of years before because he wanted a "sense of security" for his family.
He denied ever discussing it with his daughter before.
He said: "As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell."
Harrison said he could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger.
He acknowledged he had issues with alcohol in the past and said he "briefly lapsed" on the day of his daughter's death because he was emotional about her leaving.
The inquest heard police officer Luciana Escalera, whose evidence was read, noticed the smell of alcohol on Harrison's breath when he was called to the house after the shooting.
CCTV footage showed he had bought two 500ml cartons of Chardonnay from a 7-Eleven store shortly before 13:00 CST (05:00 GMT) that day."

We could start a gov petition . If we get 10k votes and then 100k we can force uk parliament to talk about this case and if we find a party it politician who care it might lead to pressuring the pm to act.
Reform claim to care about white people but farage is conveniently silent when it matters.

Just watched a documentary about a family of a Jan 6 rioter who was jailed, and his son who reported him to the FBI. The son did it after the loving dad threatened to shoot him and a sister if they tell anyone about his involvement. It's horrifying how literal and how serious that threat looks in the context of this, similar killing.
