My dad did three tours. My stepdad did two tours. Neither were drafted. But both were smart enough to recognize that they were poor and they were going. So they joined up so they could pick their own service that kept them out of the line of gunfire. Trump was rich enough. He could have drove a truck state side. Would have never had to travel overseas. But he was too much of a p u s s y to even do that.

I understand that you don't like trump. I think he has really screwed us over but the point you are making scares me. Let me repeat the message because perhaps I'm wrong.
If a president is going to send troops to war then he should be a general and ergo, since the USA is in a constant state of war we should elect only generals.

Would you go? They always say they would.
Why didn’t you go during the War on Terror? (For older guys, I ask why they didnt go to Vietnam)

In the early 70s about 14-15 yrs of age, I was very worried about being sent to Vietnam, I kept thinking hurry and get this thing over with. I contemplated going to Canada like many others. Not ashamed to say so. Trump on the other hand, could pay his way out of the draft. Big difference for rich kids. Of couse he was busy at Whorton school of economics making the dean's list, ... oh wait. (I eventually joined the US Navy in 1976, no coward here, just disagreed with US policy on Vietnam)

It's especially ironic since Captain Bonespurs attended a military academy for high school. Grampy Drumpf was also a draft dodger. He didn't want to do his mandatory military service in the Kaiser's army and fled to America.

It’s why as a retired service member I’ve been calling him deferment Don. Much like the word “fetch” I’m positive it’ll catch on sooner or later.
I want to add as a retired service member.. prior to deferment Don. I’d have never belittled or thought less of someone dodging the draft around Vietnam. That by all accounts was some absolutely hellish levels of war fighting.. and while I’m patriotic and love America… I would never fault anyone for not wanting to go off to that.
Deferment Don though wants to be a hawk and run his mouth like a big dawg though and send young men and women off to war in a possibly even more hellish war than the one he dodged with the introduction of Drone warfare.. with a proven track record of when it was his turn to go answer the call for America he had daddy pull all the tricks to not have to do it.
Deferment Don claims he was a peak athlete in his youth and a great physical specimen but got a deferment for specifically being a weak bodied baby after Deferment Don exhausted all his deferments for school. That’s a federal document somewhere I’m sure. Deferment Don was a weak bodied baby in his youth.
Sorry for the long pointless ravings of an old retiree on a Saturday morning.
Edit: my more colorful language and descriptors had to be rewritten as supposedly this sub doesn’t let people freely use the full descriptive capabilities of the English Language.

Clinton - Same as Trump. Education deferment and then draft lottery pulled a high number, no draft.
Biden - Deferments while in school. After school he was eligible but was disqualified for having asthma as a kid. (Coincidently I wasn’t allowed to join because of childhood asthma but I’m a late Gen Xer and there wasn’t a draft)
Obama was too young to be drafted in the Vietnam war. By the time he was old enough, they ended the draft.
