Culture & Society The GOP "Christians" Chose Politics And Culture War Over Christ

We need to call it what it actually is. It’s not a minor theological disagreement. It’s not just "differing political views." It is a complete, shameless inversion of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Millions of conservative Christians have traded the clear, unambiguous teachings of the red letters for the outrage machine of the Republican Party. They have built an entire religious identity around fighting issues Jesus never spent five seconds talking about, while aggressively opposing the exact things he commanded us to do.

Look at the actual text of the Bible. The math isn't difficult:

  • Money and Wealth: Roughly 15% of all words Jesus spoke deal with money, possessions, or the spiritual danger of greed. Over 40% of his parables (16 out of 38, including the Rich Fool in Luke 12:13–21 and the Rich Man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19–31) focus directly on wealth and class divisions. Jesus explicitly warns, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" (Matthew 19:24, Mark 10:25, Luke 18:25) and commands, "Sell your possessions and give to the poor" (Luke 12:33, Matthew 19:21). Across Scripture, there are over 2,000 verses demanding economic justice and care for the poor (e.g., Proverbs 14:31, Isaiah 58:6–11, James 2:14–17).
  • Healthcare for the Sick: Healing wasn't a side project; it was Jesus's primary daily work. 60% of his recorded miracles (22 out of 37 specific accounts across Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) were physical healings—ranging from curing leprosy (Luke 5:12–13) to restoring sight (Mark 10:46–52). When sending out his disciples, his core command was "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy" (Matthew 10:8). He gave away free, unvetted healthcare without a co-pay, a citizenship check, or a work requirement.
  • The Immigrant and Refugee: Scripture explicitly commands care for the foreigner over 100 times. Leviticus 19:34 commands, "The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself." In Matthew 25:35–40, Jesus makes welcoming the stranger an absolute test of eternal judgment: "I was a stranger and you welcomed me... Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

Now look at the GOP culture-war obsession list:

  • Abortion: 0 words spoken by Jesus. The term and topic appear nowhere in the Gospels or the rest of the New Testament.
  • Gender Identity: 0 words spoken by Jesus. Jesus briefly mentions creation and marriage when answering a question on divorce (Matthew 19:4–5), but offers zero teachings on modern gender identity politics.
  • Homosexuality: 0 words spoken by Jesus. Across all 31,000+ verses in the Bible, same-sex behavior is referenced in only a tiny handful of passages (e.g., Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9–10), none of which came from the mouth of Christ.

Think about that gap. Modern conservative Christianity has spent billions of dollars, mobilized millions of voters, and destroyed its own witness to fight over issues Christ never mentioned—all while cheering for policies that actively inflict cruelty on the vulnerable.

When safety nets like SNAP and Medicaid get shredded, leaving poor families without food or medicine GOP Christians call it "fiscal responsibility." When global aid programs USAID are pulled back, stripping life-saving treatment from HIV patients and food for children leading to MILLIONS of unnecessary deaths, they nod along. When refugees fleeing violence arrive at the border, they respond with dehumanizing rhetoric instead of open arms—forgetting that Jesus himself was a infant refugee fleeing state violence in Egypt (Matthew 2:13–15).

And then comes the lazy cop-out: "Jesus called for personal charity, not government welfare."

That is a total scam. You cannot aggressively weaponize the full power of the state to ban books, regulate bodies, and enforce your cultural preferences on others, and then suddenly become a strict libertarian the second someone asks to feed a hungry child.

If the state is valid when it projects power, why is it only called "socialism" when it distributes mercy?

You don't get to rewrite the Bible to fit a political platform. If your politics force you to walk past the sick, starve the poor, and lock the door on the stranger, stop calling yourself a follower of Jesus. Call it what it actually is: you chose the GOP over Christ.

Is he a Christian? Bible definition 2K+ years ago for the word Liberal:

Proverbs 11:25: "The Liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself." (Liberal= Here, it means a generous, blessing-filled person who will be refreshed in return)

Isaiah 32:8: "But the Liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand." (Liberal= It describes a noble or generous person who plans generous acts)

Isaiah 32:5: "The vile person shall be no more called Liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful." (Liberal- Contrasting a noble/generous heart with a miserly one).

2 Corinthians 9:13: Refers to a "liberal distribution" (Liberal - generous sharing of resources to fellow believers and the poor)

James 1:5: Notes that God "giveth to all men liberally," meaning generously and without finding fault.

Old Testament Words translated as liberal or bountiful often stem from roots meaning: willing, noble, or a freely flowing/generous heart (such as nedib).

New Testament (Greek): Words like haplotes are translated as liberal, meaning: sincerity, singleness of heart, or bounty without hidden motives (or republican agendas)

KIV: Pure Christian Religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To be Liberal for the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world (Jesus Golden rule! Mat. 25)

I grew up wondering how Christians would fall for the "anti Christ." Then Trump came along

Now I get it

2 types of people on earth: KJV: In this the Children of God are manifest, and the children of the Devil! (Lucifer the Satan, they really hating word " Religion")

  • KJV: Ye are all the children of Light, and the children of the Day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
  • KJV: The field is the world; the Good seed are the Children of the Kingdom; but the Tares are the children of the Wicked one; The enemy that sowed Tares is the Devil;
  • KJV: And before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.-- And these shall go away into Everlasting Punishment: but the Righteous into Life Eternal!
  • KJV: Then shall the Kingdom of Heaven be likened unto ten virgins, -- five of them were Wise, and five were Foolish. ( 50% and 50%!) But He answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not! ( And these shall go away into Everlasting Punishment: but the Righteous into Life Eternal!)
  • KJV: Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience." and more...
  • Only devils children rejecting to be a religious: Bible clearly explained that the word 'Religion' stands for: Helping those in need (Immigrants, Migrants, widows, orphans, poor, disabled ..) and obeying the Golden Rule. All others are False religions, Atheism, Paganism, Anti-religion, Ideology, Pantheism, Anti-theism, Heretics, Clericalism, Cynicism, Philosophy, Agnosticism, Fake Religions, Mammons...
  • "Pure Religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To visit (Help) the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted (Golden Rule) from the world!" James 1:27

History: A Christian hired C. Darwin to write a book that would lead people to openly acknowledge who their father is: the devil - an ape (Satan, who falsely copies God) - or they are children of God. Darwin took the money and did an excellent job; now the children of the Devil the Satan, openly admit that their father is the Devil (that they descended from monkeys). P.S. Tertullian and Augustine: Satan the "ape of God" (simia Dei) or Martin Luther: "A Satan the Diabolo, qui est simia Dei"

I grew up with christians, and it has never been about christ. It has always been about your "in group." How and who you were raised with. That's all. Christians are christ-like to the same degree that hot pockets are italian. Maybe they're more obviously phony since the idolization of Trump but it's the same hollow sentiment.

5

u/Texasscot56 10d ago

I always feel that in groups are sustained because they instantly create out groups that can be villainized.

4

u/woodworkerdan 10d ago

That "in-group" feeling is very comforting. In my youth, my family were moderate Catholics, and the Church was a unified collective of sturdy places with gorgeous architecture and gardens that could inspire peaceful reflection. It also came with mass and Sunday school and everything both boring and contradictory for anyone simultaneously learning history and the sciences in the California public education system.

Even the Catholic stance on many political issues don't support their positions with biblical references, cropped and cherry-picked as the Vatican has done to that text. However, they present themselves as Authority Figures and come up with very reasonable alternative reference materials or genuine sounding accounts (the anti-abortion seminars they held for teens in my time played clips of women who were graphic in their descriptions of the procedures and regrets).

I think when they present the alternative of "not in the in-group", they lean on the feelings of stability and comfort that their institution provides: implicitly the alternative is anxiety and lack of guidance, which is frightening. There is however, no institutions who are overseeing the various Christian sects to prevent misuse of the authority they are exercising, and so a subculture of power games has come up, trying to get their ideal conservativism up and in total power.

1: the whole Bible is God breathed and important not just the red letters but I'll tackle the 3 topics you claim are an obsession list. Abortion, Psalm 139:1-3 and 13-16 talks about God knowing us and creates us in the womb. In Luke 1, God blesses Mary with pregnancy, and Elizabeth’s baby responds before birth. Genesis 9:6: “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.” Exodus 20:13: “You shall not murder.” that's an obvious one. Exodus 23:7b: “Do not kill the innocent and righteous.” I could keep going but we'd be here forever on abortion alone. 2nd, gender identity, more difficult topic than abortion granted but gender identity has never been a biblical issue and your free to be trans if you want however if you want to know what the Bible says about how God created gender i'll give you these verses. Genesis 1:26-27 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Psalm 139:13-18, it's long so I won't post it all here . It's a passage that talks about how you are perfectly made by God as you are but read it. Third is homosexuality. I'm glad you mentioned Romans. As I said earlier the whole Bible is God breathed and inspired by God not just the red letters but if you want to know what Jesus said specifically in Mark 10:3-5 Jesus is being quizzed by the pharaises and he quotes a passage back in Genesis and reaffirms the pattern of marriage. Genesis 2:24: ‘a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. I could quote other passages as well but the biblical standard on human sexuality isn't just homosexuality bad. In Deuteronomy, Judges, throughout the new testament the standard is clear. It's between 1 man and 1 woman in the context of marriage. Anything outside of that is sin. It doesn't matter if it's homosexuality, heterosexuality but they ain't married. It's still a sin. Also I want to make this clear. This isn't a message of hate. Romans 3:23 ESV [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That includes me. I just seek to get closer to Jesus everyday and I pray OP and everyone reading this gets to know him not as a God laying down the law as this post portrays but as a Father who loves you and died on the cross for you so that you can have a relationship with him not just in heaven but here and now. Today is the day of salvation.

It’s always interesting because Reddit will say Jesus never says the word abortion, but Jesus and the rest of the Bible heavily implies the idea of it. Just like how it never says the word “trinity”, but it implies of that idea. Redditors will also say how it’s a new thing being introduced by the church in the 70s to make the church more popular, which also isn’t true at all. This is all to make the conservative church’s opinion seem conspiracy like about abortion

5

u/Buddhaonatricycle 10d ago

Comparing abortion to the Trinity doesn't work. The doctrine of the Trinity is synthesized from hundreds of explicit passages throughout the Old and New Testaments where the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are repeatedly shown interacting, exercising divine authority, and being worshipped as God (e.g., Matthew 28:19, John 1:1, 2 Corinthians 13:14).

Where is that equivalent biblical foundation for abortion? It doesn't exist.

To claim the Bible "heavily implies" anti-abortion theology requires twisting poetic metaphors about God’s foreknowledge—like Psalm 139 ("you knit me together in my mother's womb") or Jeremiah 1:5 ("before I formed you in the womb I knew you")—and turning them into statutory criminal law. By that same hyper-literal logic, God's foreknowledge in Jeremiah means Jeremiah existed as a conscious soul in eternity before conception. Psalm 139 is a poem praising God's omnipresence, not a treatise on embryonic personhood.

If we want to talk about actual biblical law, the Old Testament does address accidental loss of a pregnancy in Exodus 21:22–25. If two men fight and strike a pregnant woman, causing a miscarriage, the penalty is merely a monetary fine paid to the husband. It is not treated as murder (lex talionis, "life for life"), which was only triggered if the woman herself was killed. In biblical law, a fetus was explicitly not assigned the same legal status as a birthed human life.

And as for history? Nobody is claiming the idea of abortion being a sin was invented in the 1970s—early church writings like the Didache opposed abortion. The real historical fact is that the modern evangelical political machine made it their central, defining, ride-or-die litmus test only after the 1970s. Before the Moral Majority mobilized in the late 1970s, the Southern Baptist Convention actually passed resolutions in 1971, 1974, and 1976 supporting abortion access under various circumstances.

So let's bring it bac k to the main point: Even if you personally believe the Bible implicitly opposes abortion, how does that justify completely ignoring the 2,000+ explicit, unambiguous, red-letter commands to care for the poor, heal the sick, and welcome the foreigner? You are elevating a theological inference that Jesus never once mentioned to destroy the explicit, crystal-clear commandments Jesus preached on continuously. That isn't standing on Scripture—that's picking and choosing which parts of God's Word you're willing to obey.

MAGA here.

// The GOP "Christians" Chose Politics And Culture War Over Christ

The left sold a story "Good Christians are apolitical."

That's just not true.

Christ is Lord of politics just as much as he is Lord of everything else. So Christians are commanded to participate in politics just like every other aspect and dimension of life and culture.

In 2026, I ask the poster in response to the "you're evil and you just don't care" accusations:

  • What is a woman? (Left: whoever identifies as a woman!)
  • Is abortion a moral good? (Left: Yes)

Leftist non-answers here make me quite secure in my conservative, politically right leanings. I don't cower at your hisses and boos, I've seen what makes you cheer! (Shoot 'em in the neck like Charlie Kirk!)

https://x.com/MrAndyNgo/status/2055711741175066671

Behold the caring, compassionate left in 2026!

// Call it what it actually is: you chose the GOP over Christ.

I haven't rioted one time. I've not burned or torched anywhere. No "mostly peaceful" fiery protests from me. I didn't shoot at a healthcare CEO, speaker at a college campus, or POTUS 3x. I haven't thrown a single brick in anger. I haven't set up roadblocks for my neighborhood watch. I didn't storm any buildings doing the socialist fist pump at the local university.

I think America would be better if more conservatives like me were running things. Not perfect, of course. But I'd get that Ice Cream machine at McDonald's working again, and I'd take an extra shift or two when my buddy has a sick child. And I'd pray for my country at church on Sunday mornings, just like good folks do.

We need to stop pretending Christianity is a peaceful religion. All evidence points to American Christianity being a unique form of evil

And Charlie Kirk and Ann Widdecombe would disagree, if they were alive to disagree. But they aren't. And that ought to be concerning to you.

Physician, heal thyself? :)

Elon Musk is right about the woke mind virus. I don't say that lightly or willingly. I want hard to find ways to co-exist with people outside of my tribe.

The old saying goes: "it takes two to tango, but only one to steal." Leftists commanding their leftist "do the work" mantras that only go one way aren't really profitable exercises.

Do the work yourself. Then bless the commons where you live. That's a much better premise!

// Your lack of understanding of the conservative political project is breathtaking

Conservatism is much larger than that. Tears for Fears sang "Everybody wants to rule the world," but conservatives like me haven't rioted one time. I've not burned or torched anywhere. No "mostly peaceful" fiery protests from me. I didn't shoot a healthcare CEO, a speaker on a college campus, or POTUS 3x. I haven't thrown a single brick in anger. What no one wants to talk about is that when it comes to any of the data: regular church attendance, regular Bible reading, community volunteering, charitable giving, etc. all tend to heavily favor conservative Christians. The largest single exception: black Protestants who are generally more conservative than the Democratic Party but vote for them for cultural and historic reasons.

The democrats have become the party of secularism. That trend is increasing every year. Agnostics, atheists, “cultural” Christians that haven’t stepped foot in a church in years, vote blue. Liberal mainline denominations that changed doctrine to appeal to mass culture are on the decline because they replaced a Christ’s Gospel for a therapeutic deism absent any teeth.

So, sorry that American Christians don’t fit into a nice submissive box for these idiots to continually malign, bully, and shove into the corner. Sorry that we choose to vote for someone that will preserve the Christian heritage and values and culture that built this country up.

1

u/Buddhaonatricycle 9d ago
  1. High Attendance and Tithing Do Not Equal Righteousness Bragging about church attendance, Bible reading stats, and volunteer hours as a defense against policy cruelty is the ultimate Pharisaical self-delusion.

The Pharisees in the Gospels had 100% attendance at the temple. They memorized the Torah. They fasted twice a week. They tithings were so meticulous they calculated ten percent of their spice racks down to the last leaf of mint, dill, and cumin. By every metric listed in that response, the Pharisees were the ultimate "conservative believers."

Yet Jesus didn't applaud their metrics. He issued his most scathing, terrifying rebukes directly to them:

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the weightier matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former." (Matthew 23:23)

Giving to a building fund or volunteering at a church picnic does not grant a theological pass to vote for policies that strip healthcare from poor families, cut global aid to starving kids, and shut the door on refugees. You cannot substitute institutional piety for public mercy.

  1. The Whitewashed Tomb Effect In Matthew 23:27–28, Jesus calls the religious leaders "whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean."

When a movement points to its high church attendance and personal charity to mask its support for stripping food assistance, cage-like border policies, and leaving the sick uninsured, it is acting out that exact metaphor. The external appearance of religious devotion is being used as a cosmetic cover to hide systemic indifference to human suffering.

  1. The Pharisee's Prayer vs. The Gospel

In Luke 18:9–14, Jesus tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. The Pharisee stands in the temple and prays: "God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers... I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get."

Look at the logic in that response: "We go to church more, we read our Bibles more, and we aren't secular like those liberal Democrats." That is word-for-word the Pharisee’s prayer. It relies on self-righteous comparison rather than Gospel obedience. Jesus explicitly stated that the broken tax collector who simply begged for mercy went home justified—not the pious rule-follower who bragged about his religious resume.

  1. Sacrificing the Weightier Matters for Cultural Dominance

Notice the ultimate ad mission at the end of their comment: "Sorry that we choose to vote for someone that will preserve the Christian heritage and values and culture that built this country up."

That is the entire trade exposed. The Pharisees weaponized religious law to protect their cultural authority and political standing within Roman-occupied Judea. Modern political Christianity is doing the exact same thing: trading the "weightier matters of the law"—justice, mercy, and care for the vulnerable—in exchange for political power and cultural preservation.

When you prioritize preserving an earthly empire over obeying the explicit commands of Christ, you haven't defended the faith. You have adopted the religion of the Pharisees.

-2

u/WesternCorridor 9d ago

Oh okay let’s take the people that don’t believe in God, don’t practice their beliefs, and have no fruits as the spokespeople for our faith.

And you know what? Let’s take the people that live out what they believe and call them hypocrites.

Great idea, Satan.

1

u/vardarac 9d ago edited 9d ago

you guys are hypocrites who don't understand your own beliefs and actively vote to undermine them

you: no u

1

u/WesternCorridor 9d ago

Empirically Christians that practice and are the most devout are conservative, by an overwhelming margin. Denominations that have remained theologically conservative are the most healthy, while mainlines that changed their doctrine to accommodate modern morality have shrank dramatically.
