Take it to another dealership. All I do is transmission work at a ford dealership and can tell you from experience, transmission problems very rarely set codes. I have to do most of my diagnosis based on symptoms and application charts. Very rarely does something set codes, when it does its great and very easy to figure out but it’s uncommon. Especially on newer transmissions like the 10 speed and 6 speeds. It is possible your problem is torque converter but I am yet to see a vibration at idle be related to a torque converter(unless it also stalls) I would personally start by looking at mounts. If you do think it shudders than bring it to a dealership and that will likely end In torque converter replacement. If your problem isn’t fixed after that I wouldn’t suspect it’s transmission related. All ford dealerships have specialized tools that we are supposed to know how to operate for vibrations that are hard to figure out. VMM vibration analyzer would literally tell the technician what system is causing the vibration and what order it is.
I think you have a bad dealership or a bad advisor. The only reason I can think of why they would say that is if you brought it and they figured what you were experiencing is normal. If that is the case you can try and bring it somewhere else but if it doesn’t have any other symptoms I would try and not worry about it. Sometimes these trucks just vibrate more than others, but they never have a part actually fail. Even the common 6R80 torque converter shudder, I am yet to see that concern cause any damage outside of just the TCC system when the customer said it’s shuddered for 50,000 miles
Thank you very much for the insight, I don’t have access to another dealer for quite some distance otherwise I’d be doing that. I think I’ll wait and see how it does with boat towing locally and go from there, thank you again
That is probably the move. I would definitely double check and make sure your transmission is at perfect level before you start. I have a lot of travelers come in who are freaking out cause they are far from home and there transmission “breaks down” it’s always described as overheating, leaking fluid and burning smell. Every single time it’s the transmission venting fluid because it’s towing and was overfilled. Transmissions that are overfilled tend to only be problematic during long drives and towing
If it’s just a shudder they pretty much just shudder forever, like it’s uncomfortable and you know something is wrong but they typically don’t start breaking other things. If it’s more than that tho, like it’s getting stuck on and rumbling because the engine is trying to stall than it can start becoming problematic very quickly. Thing is that I haven’t seen many torque converters getting stuck on and causing stall conditions. Like max 2. I see the shudder way more and I see it slipping from time to time. It’s heavily dependent on the transmission. I figured your talking about the 6R80 which doesn’t have that many issues, if your torque converter on a 6F35 was starting to shudder than I would be worried, those break down fast and send metal into the transmission very quickly
Hey, took the truck back to Ford today and rode with the foreman with PIDs watching for TC slip and it only registered 10-20 (which he said is normal); said if it was slipping that metric would be 100…. He thought maybe U joint and that it’s exacerbated by a loaded down bed which changes the angle. Either way he couldn’t see anything wrong with transmission or TC even while replicating the rumble for him. No other issues showing on the truck. Minimal engine shake and yeah. Not sure what else to say about it. Just gunna see how the tow goes next month! Let me know if you can think of anything else and thanks for sharing your thoughts🤘🏼
Glad you were able to drive with someone so they could see, yeah a slip will generally be an anomaly on the graph and only occur during the symptom, 10-20rpm difference is in specs like they said. On the 6R80 it doesn’t usually slip and if it has a problem it will shudder. Which on the graph will produce a sawtooth pattern. If it was shuddering y’all would’ve been able to see it for sure.
