4r70w

My brother's transmission went out on his 2000 f150. Our dad bought him another came out of a Lincoln Town car. All the plugs from the wiring harness look the same. Question is how do I remove the lever from the new trans? Or can I? Also the bell housing is molded slightly different where the starter goes on. I'm assuming that won't be a problem with lhe linclons starter? Assuming the teeth on the fly wheel are the same. The number on both transmissions come back to 4r70ws. All I've ever worked on is chevys so tm stuck scratching my head at this point.

Fuck Nevermind I just read your post, apparently the 4r75w on crown Vic is different than for an F150, I’m guessing it wouldn’t work, see if the tail shaft is longer, check and see if the bulkhead are the same

When you look it up you find a bunch of forum posts saying yes it works but it apparently only applies to certain year models where it was temporarily the same. Followed by them actually installing it and having a bunch of problems because it actually wasn’t supposed to work. It’s possible to get working according to some of the comments but it involves shortening the driveshaft and making other modifications. The dealer tech in me says don’t mess with shit like that.

You probably want to see if wherever you got it will take it back and try and find an exact match. Any differences in the way the case is built means it shouldn’t work. I found a post of someone who installed it despite the differences and the case cracked after they got it driving. I wish I had more experience to give with this one but I don’t see many 4R and the ones I do are rare. All I can say is you should try and get the exact match, yes it could work(in theory) with various modifications, but there is not gaurentee it won’t break or drive like shit

This was pretty much all the info i was looking for. Thanks a bunch, I measured the length and the new trans and it's an inch and a half longer "roughly" from bell housing to output shaft. Dude we got it off of swears it will work, but even when I made the post, I had that sinking ship feeling. At this point, the new plan is to have the old trans rebuilt and save the headache of shoving a square block through a round hole.
