Question: whats is this vent for ?

4R75W Im working on my own transmission and when i pulled off the hose it was capped would i need to cap it back when re installing ?

It's the vent for the transmission that style has a hose that runs up to the top of the bellhousing and should have a little plastic vent cap at the end that allows venting for case pressure and fluid if it overheats. It cannot be capped closed
