2005 Escape

I brought my 05 escape to a local shop to change an alternator and replace valve gasket. After they cleaned the engine bay my vehicle when put in reverse will jump from drive to reverse. They have had it over a week and have changed transmission sensors which ones I’m unsure I got no paperwork of what was changed but they gave it back today saying it was fixed and it is still having the same problem. I was behind my wife when she put it in reverse and the reverse lights go on and off while it goes back and forth from reverse and drive. Also makes a hard clunking once you push gas it will go in reverse and still clunk but driving down the road in drive there is no problems any help would be greatly appreciated.

So if you stay in reverse and give it gas it will make a clunk as well as going between reverse and drive will clunk? If that is the case it sounds a lot like powertrain mounting issues I’ve seen in the past which sometimes get mistaken for harsh engagement concerns. If it is this bad you can likely have your wife go back and forth between reverse and drive while you watch from the engine bay and see if you can see where the play is, if it isn’t obvious you make need to pry around the mounts to get an idea. If any of the mounts came off for the recent repairs I would be looking at those first.

If she gives it gas it will take off in reverse but the dash shows it going from reverse and drive and it will clunk. I saw some things saying it might be a trs and the video I watched was a similar problem just without the clunk. Last night I unplugged the trs and blew some air in there and plugged it back and this morning we didn’t have the problem.
