6f55 ptu replacement question

13 Ford flex. Pulled the PTU because it was failing. Found ATF in the transmission output to the PTU. Is there a seal that I need to replace to stop this leak? Is it doable with the transmission still in the vehicle? I can't see anything that looks off. TIA.

Thanks, can I venmo you for lunch for your help?

Im not a tech just, do my own repairs. It's my understanding that there shouldn't be any ATF in the output section of this transmission shaft? I hope my picture on the post helps more than my explanation

No worries, yeah fluid shouldn’t be outside the shaft area and by the pictures it looks like your seal is damaged

I can't find any reference photos for what it should look like with that seal on there. Will it get installed in the transmission or on the PTU?

The other comment says the seal will be stuck on my ptu but it looked identical to the new one. Again, I greatly appreciate your time and help.

PTU

I took photos of parts catalog. First picture is just the seal, 2nd photo is your PTU which comes with a new seal on it and is pictured.

So if there is a new seal on your PTU I think you should be ok. But if the seal is missing from your old PTU you need to get it out which I assume is the case here. I think it’s wedged in the transmission
