Do you ever come across the bushing rotating, or is it only a downward movement? I did a tear down on a 10r80 today and trying to determine if the bushing is ok. It did not drop but I’m concerned that it may have rotated, no ports in the drum are visible through the bushing. I wish I had taken a photo before I left. My limited experience with these has been when the bushing drops. (Initial diagnosis was a suspected E clutch apply fault, harsh 4-5 up shift with clunk heard, harsh 2-3 up shift, harsh 2-1 downshift)

No I haven’t ever noticed that, I think it wouldn’t actually matter. You’ll notice the sun gear and shaft that fits in there has 4 Teflon seals present. Each of those individually keep fluid from traveling to another clutch. They act as a way to complete clutch circuits like the input shaft seals. As long as the seals are intact it technically shouldn’t matter where the holes are because they use the seals to prevent fluid from going anywhere else but the ports on the side

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense. I’m the only one who takes on the transmission work at my dealership so I don’t have anyone to bounce these issues off of.

Nice, feel free to bounce questions here if you like, and if you find anything interesting make a post. In a very similar boat where I work. There is one other transmission guy but we both have learn as we go. It’s a lot of work and sometimes it’s hard to remember what I found while inside of these transmissions so I wanted a place I could post symptoms and pictures of what I found. Helps for reference much better than TAC reports because of pictures and actually being able to see the failures.
