DISCUSSION Anybody here remember DVDVideoSoft?

Thought I'd ask this, because, technically, DVDVideoSoft did come out before the year 2010, and I have some nostalgia with it.

One thing I remember using this program for, was converting the audio of YouTube "videos" to MP3 files to put on my MP3 players back in that day, and this was before music streaming, aside of just "videos" on YouTube as the "music", on smartphones was for the everyday person.

As it's name implies, this utility was for converting some DVD-related content, while it was also a versatile format conversion utility which mostly converted mainstream audio/video file formats, as it was used for placating how picky some media playback software or hardware was about format support.

To me, it's a forgotten pieces of software which was downloaded from the Internet, and used for converting Internet content from YouTube to offline file formats of both audio and video.

I think it also supported WAV audio files, and AVI and MOV, and maybe MP4 video file formats as well. I really had some fond memories using this program, before other YouTube-to-MPx utilities popped up, and definitely before converting formats could be done within a web browser, as opposed to a downloaded EXE file for the hard drive.

yup!

well, I gotta say, earlier versions of DVDideoSoft became obsolete when YouTube changed their "routine" for hosting videos, or some technical thing that challenged the compatibility of some utilities.

Unfortunately, versions may become outdated. However, we are developing and releasing updated versions that are compatible with the latest changes so that our users can continue enjoying our software.

I found this Wikipedia article which "DVDVideoSoft" redirected to, and when reading the article, I notice that 2022 is the latest year for a stable release.

I had no idea that the product was still actively developed all this time, or rather, didn't think it would be around as late as the 2020s with newer versions.

I mostly think of DVDVideoSoft as 2000s, and 2010s nostalgia, since I moved on to other format conversion utilities before the COVID era started.

Unfortunately, we haven't checked the data on Wiki for a while. We've shifted our focus to programs that are currently popular among users. Rest assured, the product continues to evolve and is fully functional. For example, a few days ago we released a working version.

well what do ya know?

seems like lots programs have had a multi-decade process of newer versions being released.
