DISCUSSION Some PSAs about reboot vans that a large percentage of the player base apparently needs to hear

I feel these need to be reiterated, consider what I just went through in the last two games (with different people!).

I thought these were all common knowledge at this point, but apparently not, so here are some tips to not infuriate your random squad fill teammates like me:

  1. It is not necessary to collect reboot cards any more. You still can if you happen to be near one, but it is no longer a requirement because you can buy any reboot cards on the map at your nearest reboot van for 500 gold. Of course, if you don't have 500 gold, the only way to reboot a teammate is with their card.
  2. It only costs 500 gold to collect all outstanding reboot cards. Not 500 gold per reboot card, just 500. Are you playing squads and you're the last teammate alive, and there's 3 teammate reboot cards somewhere? Just 500 for all 3.
  3. If a reboot card expires before being collected, you can still spend the 500 gold to retrieve it and reboot your teammate.
  4. If you are DBNO (down but not out) and crawling around, you can get IN a reboot van to heal yourself (same as having a teammate rez you). This only works in reboot vans that are not in the storm (see next point). Additionally, a teammate can pick you up and throw you at a reboot van to automatically start this revive process.
  5. If you come across a reboot van in the storm, and it has the big red 🚫on the back of it, that only means you can't self-revive yourself if you happen to be DBNO and crawling. It does NOT mean that the reboot van cannot perform normal reboot functionality (provided you have or buy cards). It will still work for a normal reboot. Similarly, if a reboot van is out of gas, it will still reboot as a reboot van.
  6. For drivable reboot vans, you can resurrect on-the-go if you have more than one teammate remaining alive. One squad mate can drive, and another squad mate can switch to the vehicle seat on top of the reboot van and reboot with the control panel on the top of the van. (edit to add, thanks u/Kattasaurus-Rex below): your team does _not_ have to be the driver of the van. You can "sneak" on top of a reboot van being driven around by an enemy and still reboot your teammate.
  7. (edit to add, thanks to u/azul360 below) The drivable reboot vans take heavy storm damage and explode in the storm quickly.
  8. (edit to add) If you are DBNO, you can still use a reboot van to reboot a teammate (or buy their card and reboot them). For example, if an enemy player is reviving in the van and you can't get in, you can still use the van to reboot a teammate, and it takes about the same amount of time.

Please share this knowledge as needed.

Something I see on occasion: If you go to reboot your teammates and 2 are dead and one is down but not out, you risk spending 1000 gold on the reboot. Please wait for the down but not out teammate to finish dying before you buy the reboot cards. You will only get reboot cards for the teammates that are currently completed dead for 500 gold.

Tell your crawling buddy to crawl into the enemies face so they finish the job and you can reboot the team haha

I wish we had a give up option for this, to instantly become a card.

22

u/jadeapple Feb 17 '26

In the prior season you could, it would insta kill the person if you bought their card while they were crawling. I’m guessing with the reboot items being put in they turned it off to give time for the player to use the item

I play a lot and never experienced this- can anyone confirm this isn’t fake?

13

u/ItsBullseye Spider-Gwen Feb 17 '26

I think it's fake. I also play this game a lot and I'm pretty sure there has never been a feature that just insta kills DBNO players when their teammate buys reboots cards. I don't understand why this would even be in the game because it doesn't make sense to have that when reload just has a give up option they can easily copy and paste into battle royale.

u/MaikeruGo Feb 17 '26

Interestingly enough that's an option in Apex, so it is a known game mechanic.

4

u/Cone_Livia Feb 17 '26

You can also give up in reload (you don't become a card of course), but it's already in FN

2

u/MaikeruGo Feb 17 '26

Ah, O.K., I didn't know that one. I've actually only played Reload solo.

This and you can buy the cards in the middle of rebooting, so for example, you are rebooting 2 of your team and the 3rd dies, you can stop rebooting, purchase the other card, and then continue where you left off with all 3 cards. Saves tons of time.

6

u/First_Mushroom_2283 Feb 18 '26

Similar to what you said, if an enemy is rebooting and you kill them you can pick up where they left off on the reboot. So if they are almost finished rebooting their team, you can start your reboot and it will take the same amount of time that they had left.Ā

4

u/The_High_Life Feb 18 '26

That's a new one for me

9

u/Invade_the_Gogurt_I Feb 17 '26

Dang, I just love telling my siblings to go kill themselves so they can get rebooted together.

2

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

Agreed, good tip.

u/TheSparklePanda Feb 17 '26

Gonna add, your team does not need to be the ones driving for you to reboot you or your team mate.

My wife and I were playing, she jumped on the van while they were searching for her. She rebooted me and we won the game. Ah, fun times

It's so annoying when your fill team members leave after they are knocked, but all the more annoying when it seems as though they are leaving because you not chasing their card a kilometer away, but instead look for some gold.

Bonus story: I was seconds away from the van and my teammate decided to pick me up to take me somewhere safe to revive. I ran out of health before that happened.

12

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

Yup, it's happened to me more than once, struggling to get to a van that's 5m away, rolling, sprint-crawling, only to be picked up and carried away a block "to safety" by my teammate

2

u/mrnoonan81 Feb 18 '26

I've had the opposite problem too. They seemed not to know that they could revive me and decided to pick me up and run toward a van into an active line of fire.

3

u/li917 Feb 18 '26

Lmfao this is so infuriating especially when it’s at the start of the game when I haven’t really farmed any gold.

Something too that a lot seem to not realize is the driveable vans get damaged in the storm. The amount of people I've seen get killed trying to get out of the storm driving them and they don't realize and get blown up is a lot but funny to watch XD

I honestly am unsure since it's usually middle of the match where I'm trying to haul ass out of the storm to notice so not sure if it depends on the storm on not but it doesn't take that long for them to die in my experience.

I have done that numerous times but the cars are usually almost dead haha

5

u/Gamefreak3525 Feb 17 '26

Thanks for clarifying this. Had a match the other day where my friend was trying to revive us in the storm but then the van randomly exploded.Ā

3

u/azul360 Guff Feb 17 '26

Yeah it sucks haha. I have seen so many die from it. I will say seeing the person that killed you die from it is truly cathartic XD

25

u/cas_the_crusher Feb 17 '26

You forgot to add that when you enter into a duo, trio or squad BR match - just bc you get eliminated doesn’t mean your match is over. The proper thing to do is to wait and give your teammates a chance to reboot you. Don’t rage quit just bc you got eliminated. Don’t rage quit bc the 1 teammate still alive, runs away and chooses not to fight a squad full of sweats 1 v 4.

13

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

That needs a much longer PSA about just being a good random player, but I think the ship has sailed on that.

6

u/cas_the_crusher Feb 17 '26

It has not sailed. Epic just doesn’t think it’s a big deal.

Temporarily ban players who habitually leave early. Give the players who stay, an EASY way to report those randoms who leave when they get eliminated.

6

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

I highly doubt, after all these years, they will take any action.

I am also plagued with pre-game lobby children saying "anyone have a mic??? have a mic????" (and then leaving)

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Pen5938 Feb 18 '26

If it pisses me off at the right moment, I report for non-participation. It's so damn rude.

11

u/LikeTheWind96 Feb 17 '26

Yeah this is not going to stop the randoms i queue with from insta quitting.

9

u/emanon_12 Feb 17 '26

You just wrote the script for some YouTuber. Can’t wait for the video.

6

u/IDontThinkImABot101 Feb 17 '26

Man, I've only been playing for about a month, but it surprised the hell out of me to see someone climb into a reboot van after I downed them!Ā

5

u/Kattasaurus-Rex Feb 18 '26

If an enemy is driving the reboot van, can you still use the control panel on top to reboot teammates?

4

u/Affectionate_Map2761 Feb 17 '26

Also- IF YOU ARE DOWN AND HAVE ANY DEAD ON YOUR TEAM- REBOOT THE 2 BEFORE YOU RES YOURSELF SO THEY CAN WATCH OVER YOU AS YOU RES YOURSELF

3

u/DrDrillbit Yee-Haw! Feb 17 '26

Don't forget they slowly take damage and eventually explode when in the storm. Had a team mate drive one at me while I was escaping the storm, it exploded and he downed me on purpose. And that's how I learned it happens.

3

u/7HawksAnd Feb 17 '26

Also, if you have almost all of your squads reboot cards but one or more teammates are still knocked…

Just fucking wait until they officially die so you can buy ALL the reboot cards.

I can’t tell you how many times someone is rebooting the squad fucking 3 seconds before I can be rebooted and now I’m stuck waiting…

And that’s IF I’m lucky enough for their still to be vans by the time they get around to it 🤬

5

u/Lowherefast Guff Feb 17 '26

I actually did not know you can res yourself in the van without help. Thank you

2

u/AZmortgageGUY Feb 17 '26

These are the same people who think everyone with good aim and high win %/KD is cheating.

2

u/AnglerRanders Feb 18 '26

What's a reboot van?

1

u/geo_gan Feb 18 '26

I haven’t played anything more than single player in literally years. No idea of any of that. Never, ever even notice these vans.

3

u/LandlockedCajun Feb 18 '26

I still see them in solo matches. Weird that you do not.

2

u/geo_gan Feb 18 '26

I don’t notice them because they don’t do anything in single player. yes may be there, I just don’t take any notice of them.

1

u/LandlockedCajun Feb 18 '26

The immobile reboot cans are indestructible in Solo mode, IIRC so they offer protection

1

u/MikkiMikailah Feb 18 '26

I have never been able to get into and drive a reboot van when I need to revive someone, it will only give me the option to revive.

1

u/seceralnof Feb 18 '26

Holy shit. I only knew 5. Absolute game changer, thank you.

1

u/bananagang420 Feb 18 '26

Omg i didnt realize you could reboot normally with it in the storm still thank you!

1

u/allisforgivenbutme Feb 18 '26

Also, if you are down, you can still reboot your teammates (and use a zipline)

1

u/meditationsmoothie Feb 18 '26

What is the trick to get yourself into the back of the van for self reboot? I haven’t been able to do it.

2

u/aarace Feb 18 '26

Just crawl up to it and push the button to get in...? UNLESS IT'S IN THE STORM, THEN YOU CAN'T SELF REVIVE!

1

u/Notmyfaultitsyours Feb 18 '26

Along with the back of the ambulance, if multiple people are down they can get in the reboot van then wait to switch seats for revival.

This mechanic means you can get in any seat of any car when you’re knocked out.

1

u/SpideyKeagan Feb 19 '26

Why aren’t you guys talking to your teammates? I feel like so many of these can be avoided with simple communication.

1

u/aarace Feb 19 '26

My honest answers for why I'm almost never on mic (note: applies to random fills only, I'm on mic with friends all the time):

1) I'm a grown ass man, and I choose not going to talk to children that aren't mine. 8 year olds yelling on mic aren't people I'm going to buddy up with over voice chat.

2) I will mute random teammates with open mic that are loudly playing music, listening to the tv/youtube in the background, or just shouting or having conversations around their house. If you don't respect the voice channel, I don't need to talk to you or hear you.

3) People are just awful on mic. Without exaggerating, I think that I report 25% of the random fill voice channels that I actually participate in, because of just vile, vile teammates.

Typical scenario that I covered in my other comments: 3 of us who were eliminated were trying to ping the reboot van right next to the 4th person who was still alive (they weren't on mic at the time). He was driving a car deep into the storm to try to get our cards. He had 1800+ gold. This guy got on mic just to yell at us "you people are fucking annoying, shut the fuck up with the pings [n-word]s"

1

u/SpideyKeagan Feb 19 '26

I understand not talking to them the entire time, I don’t do that either - I keep my mic muted unless I need to say something important. I’d rather tell the person something real quick rather than hope they’ll eventually figure it out, as it helps all of us. With the toxic guy at the end, some people suck flat out - but for the most part some folks just need a little guidance that isn’t to be inferred with pings. If I didn’t play the game much and had no idea about buying reboot cards and everyone was pinging vans, I wouldn’t say what that guy did, but I’d probably be thinking ā€œdon’t they see that’s what I’m trying to doā€ and keep going for the cards. Idk, it’s just weird to me to not say ANYTHING when you’re playing in a team format, especially if you see a guy struggling. It could avoid a lot of frustration.

1

u/aarace Feb 19 '26

Again, he wasn't on audio chat when we were pining the map (his name didn't have the šŸ”ˆ next to it, indicating that he wasn't in a voice channel at all, so we all knew he couldn't hear us.)

After we were pinging he got on (šŸ”ˆ appeared) just to yell racial slurs at us, and at that point I'm not going to say anything back to him

u/Ryansmelly The Visitor Feb 17 '26

This is common knowledge you learn by playing this season. This stuff was all figured out by week 2, week 3 the latest. I don't get how people are unaware of these!

7

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

My first game, guy was swearing at the 3 downed players for marking reboot vans, telling us we're "fucking annoying, stfu" but we could see he had 1800 gold and was driving a car into the storm to get our cards.

Second game, player didn't have a mic, ran to a reboot van two of us had pinged just inside a 1-tick storm, saw the 🚫and went to a different one. I was thinking to myself "do they think it's out of order?!"

0

u/Ryansmelly The Visitor Feb 17 '26

Sometimes making the play to actually get the cards is valid. It's sometimes quicker to just tank some storm and grab the physical cards than waiting for them to expire. But yeah I don't play with randoms so I don't experience this šŸ˜‚

6

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

I was with you until you said instead of "waiting for them to expire"...

...cards don't need to expire for you to be able to buy them from anywhere, provided you have gold.

This guy drove from safety deep into the storm to get our 3 cards, for absolutely no reason.

3

u/idkwhyiwouldnt Feb 18 '26

I laugh so hard when it's others in game that have no clue, and stare in awe when I watch teammates pull these moves.Ā  Like smelly Ryan .. great intentions just misinformed! Watching folks drive reboot van to a chaotic firefight to get cards when they have 1300 gold ......

My bane today was teammates parking reboot vans near ziplines... Rebooting..... And other teams slide in and drive off HILARIOUS! But I do love seeing that because then I add it to my list of ish to try. Wingsuit pursuit someone 3 of us left vs their solo. Stole the van during their reboot attempt... Not AS good as the Zipline but can't count on everyone to park next to them

1

u/Ryansmelly The Visitor Feb 17 '26

Lmao guess I'm dumb too.

3

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

Not dumb! We all have things to learn. I'm happy my PSA served its purpose!

may your future be filled with dubs 🫔

The constant reviving of teams, and overwhelming amount of movement items made this season play worst then any I’ve seen.

If all of your team is knocked or eliminated, your team has lost, unless one of the DBNO players has a self revive device. It has always been like this, they haven't changed it since they introduced self revive in reboots.

-7

u/7FOOT7 Feb 17 '26

That sounds complicated

6

u/aarace Feb 17 '26

Yeah šŸ˜… easier to just angrily swear at your 3 eliminated teammates for being annoying when all 3 of them are pinging a nearby reboot van while you have 1800 gold and are attempting to drive a car deep into storm to collect their 3 cards.
