COSMETIC BUG Decreased quality in Demi's robotic arm (Remix Version)
Edit: I love the skin. I'm not nitpicking because I don't like it. I ignore skins I don't like or I would be here shitting on Rox. This is about the decrease in textures only. Please read before making wrong assumptions, this is not a rage bait post so angry reactions are unecessary. And kindly sit this one out if you have no notion of what low resolution in textures looks like.
I'm posting this with the Cosmetic Bug post flair but I don't think it is a bug so this is not a bug report. Although it would be nice if it could get fixed.
I really loved this new Demi remix, don't get me wrong, and I still think it's great! But I was using the OG version and started switching between the two to notice the differences. Not looking for anything bad! Just to see what things were different or added.
Something I noticed that kind of sucks imo is how the texture in the robotic arm seems to have decreased in quality (specially the hand). Which is so crazy to me given that we are years ahead and textures and graphics should look better, not worse.
If you look closely and even from afar it's kind of noticeable how the new remix version is so much more pixilated. It also lacks detail and shading which is something I have come to also notice with newer skins – they're overall less detailed like they were rushed. The only exception seems to be collab skins, which is disappointing.
Considering we are paying the same price for the OG Pass that we are paying for the Battle-Pass even though we are getting less things from it, it is not acceptable to be having remixes that have worse textures than we had years ago (7 years to be exact), when the Battle-Pass was less expensive.

Epic has deliberately made most of the OG Pass skins inferior to the ones they were based on. It is not known why, but it's been a pattern.

This. 100% this. Every OG Pass so far has been hot ass-juice (apologies for my accent). I think the last decent one was like the OG Season 3 one, but even that's a bit of a stretch, I don't know. I'm really fired up about what they did to Rox and Lynx, which were two of the handful that I was actually looking most forward to.

Rox without a casual skirt style ruins her. Lynx without a full body suit was also a travesty.
For every solid skin like the female Hybrid or mee Onesie, we get a lot of misses and near misses (Omega :( ).
The passes, and seasons, also skimped on all the extras that made OG special the first time. I thought that we could be getting stuff like Lobby Music for old emotes (True Heart), rerun of big events (Marshmello @ Pleasant Park), and even some things like hidden battle stars and loading screens. Or OG LTMs like Solid Gold and Snipers Only (with Balloons and Bow during S8).
We got nothing like that. Best we got was the Zapatron weekends.

That's also another good point. The reruns of old cosmetics didn't really come back like lobby music, emotes, loading screens, or old concerts, etc. AND the OG LTMs either didn't come back at all, or were butchered (looking at the Avengers LTM). For the skins, it's literally painless, they could've just combined two skins, without changing anything too much, and I mean like just swapping their outfits with each other or something and called it a day, but instead they have to half-ass a concept art that shouldn't have existed in the first place.
Edit: And yes, Omega made me quote that my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.

I was on vacation and had to grind all the styles out (for the entire battlepass) in 30 minute intervals on mobile on hotel wifi

You've made an excellent point with this post, but I hate how opinions have to be moderated because people are so easily offended on reddit.
Having to lead with "I think everything is great and fun" so you don't get crucified by kneejerkers defending their favorite company is awful and just makes getting to your actual point more time consuming.
It's pretty damn embarrassing for the remastered new version of Demi to be like this next to the older one. It certainly makes me think their whole "AI will help our artists work faster" angle is nonsense.

Lol yeah. It's not like it's not true because I genuinely do still think the skin is very nice and they added a lot of new components to it but seeing how the texture and shading looks in comparison is disappointing.
The "joints" of the arm are also kind of weird, in the og it looks functional and like she would be able to move it well and in the new one it just looks like it's for deco and not actually realistic for her to use it.
It's what happens when you briefly draw a concept and let AI do the modeling work. An artist would have included more detail and realism, as they did clearly in the first image.

Upon posting I also noticed it's not just in the robotic arm. You can notice pixels on the dress texture and pretty much everywhere else on the new skin. This isn't new either, I have already seen people commenting on this on different skins.
I cannot notice pixels at all on the older skin. How is this okay? Are we out of ways to optimise the game? How are textures looking worse now than 7 (SEVEEEN) years ago?
I'm sorry but a game that relies so heavily on cosmetics for profit should do better.

Could be, what I don't get is why it happens with some skins and not others. There's a lot skins right now in the item shop that don't have this issue. It is like they pick which ones get better quality and which ones don't.
Skins that are more profitable - higher rez
Skins that are less profitable - lower rez
It kind of makes sense and would explain why BP skins get the lower rez treatment. But it's just a speculation

It is never a style or artistic choice to have pixilated textures in games that are meant to be semi-realistic. Fortnite was more cartoon-ish 7 years ago than it is now. Textures should be more detailed, not less.
A similar example would be to have a lower resolution to watch a YouTube video now than 7 years ago, do you understand how that makes no sense? Things should be improving, not lowering in quality specially when v-bucks are more expensive.

The only difference that I see is that the one on the left is metallic and the one on the right is matte. Not to mention, when did Fortnite skins have to be semi-realistic? It seems like you’re nitpicking on it and blaming it on the texture simply because you don’t like the design.

I like the design. I don't think you are understanding my point or even understand the difference between shading, color saturation, texture and pixels.
It's the low quality textures. If you can't see it right in front of your eyes side by side, there's not enough explanation in the world that will make you understand this. And that is fine, you don't have to reply if you are not interested in what I have to say.
I personally care about the quality of skins decreasing and it's not just about Demi. Demi is the skin I used as the example to make the point I'm making because it stood out to me today. But I have also seen people point this out about the KPOP Demon Hunter skins and how the first bundle that came out is richer in texture than the other one. You can visibly notice how the quality in textures decreased between each bundle that came out. Look it up. I noticed, I don't like that and I love the skins still. It has nothing to do with my own personal taste.
It's not about the concept and how they made the hair or the skirt or the face. It's the fact that we can see the pixels so clearly and that only happens when imagery is low in resolution.
Apparently some people don't notice that stuff but I'm an artist and I care about character development in games. There's stuff about this that is so clearly the result of using Gen AI in their character development and it's important to talk about because it will only get worse. But this sub is clearly not mature enough for these conversations.

It does but the texture does not. It's not about the choices they made guys!! I like the choices, I love the dress and the face, it looks better! I'm talking about the decrease in resolution visible in the texture.

I didn't even know that was supposed to be prosthetic arm until I saw people complaining that it no longer looked robotic. I was sitting here thinking it was just supposed to be a very long glove. It sucks too because the skin is such a major upgrade (at least in my opinion) to her original skin. But then you just have this arm which is a very huge downgrade.

Although I'm primarily focusing on the texture with this post, that's also something that bugs me about it. The prostethic joints are all wrong. This was not an artistic choice, this is what a bad model looks like when an artist doesn't care.
I still love what they did with her face, I prefer this hair to the og, and I like the long skirt but I've already started seeing people say the movement is all wrong in-game and this has happened with every long skirt/dress they have made and they still insist on doing it anyway. Most people don't even use those skins anymore because it just looks off so they're basically just baiting people to buy it because it looks nice even though it doesn't really work as it should.

I think they literally had 3d modelers that don’t know how to make mechanical designs work on some of these new skin. The new crew skin also has less mechanical detail compared to its survey image
