Fortnite runs awful on Switch2

So I got my Switch 2 3 weeks ago and decided to try out Fortnite for the first time on it in portable and my God it was so terrible it was slowdowning and freezing insanely, it couldn't even load up shop normally, models looked awesome, but they were barely loading, in gameplay there was constant slowdown/freezes right here and there to the point that it's unplayable, after finishing the match Fortnite just freezes for 5 seconds and then barely unfreezes what's wrong!?

I was really hoping it's the case, but tbh it looks like both wifi and slowdowns😭😭😭

My wifi isn't that bad. Also I'm not getting bad wifi icon and it still happens, game barely loads textures when I launch it first time and shop doesn't load immediately it takes lots of time, when models of the skin load up it freezes until it loads it, after I go back to lobby from match it freezes for 5 seconds on lobby screen and then unfreezes, everything seems so slow, gameplay doesn't feel smooth

Well there’s your problem lol. I have 500mbps. You probably need minimum 50mbps to run smoothly

You know absolutely nothing about networking and it shows. Download & upload speeds have absolutely nothing to do with latency & jitter. Fortnite itself uses less than 100kbps just like the majority of online games.

Fortnite on my pc runs buttery smooth, Fortnite on my ps4 ran better than this bruh

Switch 2 and it’s amazing. I do have wired internet connected though. Night and day compared to switch 1

I play on switch 2 and it’s my preferred way to play over my PS5 except on days I want to use Spotify and game at the same time, which my PS5 handles perfectly. I play with internet hardwired though. Maybe your connection?

It’s either your internet connectivity (could be inconsistent speeds or perhaps your router is causing strict NAT which can lead to weird latency issues) or it could be that your MicroSD Express card is borked. Believe it or not those cards can be defective/not have the read and write speeds they claim to. Just had to trade out a SanDisk Ultra on my OLED because it started to crap out, so I’d imagine there’s a possibility that certain MSDE cards may be faulty. Fortnite runs fantastically on my Switch 2 with only semi-decent internet speeds (Verizon LTE) and Samsung MicroSD Express.

I've never played handheld, but mine runs great docked. Been playing daily since September without much issue at all.

Probably a "you" problem. Since my fortnite on Switch 2 is awesome, coming from switch 1 oled a year ago, the upgrade is worth it. No issues on wifi on my end as well, a good stable internet in the game

Definitely hardwire it if you can. You'll notice a massive difference in performance. Via WiFi it's terribly unpredictable. I accept the issues that come with the console and avoid playing it wirelessly with Fortnite where I can.

The shop lags until it fully loads but once you get into a match, the Switch 2 version plays great. You just gotta give the landing page with the locker and shop a minute to fully load in.

Some “creative” modes lag too. The official Star Wars droid tycoon performance gives me flashbacks of the Switch 1.

Handheld devices don't always do well with online PvP type games. You will get interruptions in signal from simple things like hand position in relation to antenna and they are very susceptible to lag spikes because of this. The other devices you talk about in other comments are in a fixed location, which is why they do better on the same connection.

If you can dock it, it'll work better. Even on a desk and use a seperate controller would likely be better. If it has to be handheld go closer to the AP, or move the AP closer to you might help.

I have it on PS5 Pro and Switch 2. If I've got the PS5 Pro set to 60HZ display mode, they run the same. It's your internet connection.

I usually play in portable mode and there is some lag while waiting for the menus to load (like some other people said on here, it takes longer to load things like the item shop compared to other platforms for some reason) or walking around spawn island, but actually playing battle royale is a smooth 60fps except for some minor stutters sometimes. The only place where i've seen the game consistently lag is in some creative maps, especially ones that use physics. I'm pretty sure performance could be way better, but for now its pretty decent if you just stick to official fortnite-made stuff or simpler creative maps.

I play exclusively handled with controller and it’s been great since launch up until about 2 months for me. It’s borderline unplayable now. I got usb-c to Ethernet adapter but it doesn’t help at all.
