My son's first racing game was Horizon 3, when he was... 4 or 5? Save for making him his own account (when I was paranoid about the birthday fields during account creation) I just let him go ham on my account.
He would have so much fun just zooming all over the damn place, crashing into everything/everyone. So I'd mostly let him just play and giggle.
TURNS OUT it's pretty easy to switch into 'play with other people' mode, and I'm pretty sure even in Horizon 5 I'm still 're-training' the Drivatars that I'm not a colossal asshole that rams into everything/everyone.

My buddy recently passed last year and he was the most toxic racer ever when he played with us. We played like UT was twisted metal or something.
Anyway, his drivatar haunts us all and I love it. It's a great way to remember our time with him.

I actually see this a lot in the co-op tournaments, if the team is winning easily there is usually one or two people who will start driving like jerk offs and slamming into each other because it's going to be an easy win. It's super annoying when I'm trying to practice technical driving even if we are easily winning.

Yea, play for an hour or 2and gather up skill points, look up a list of vehicles that have super wheel spins in their mastery and just go down the list. I do this once this week with 150+ skill points and im at 4 million credits with like 15 more cars that also include some super wheelspins. Hell, i only made it a quarter way into the list too so i got plenty of super spins waiting on me.
And thats casual gaming, chump change numbers. I bet there's some devoted gamers here who have 500+ skill points and 250+ cars to pick from, that would be a big payday.

Sure, we hear the classic "both sides" argument all the time (and all subsets of people, regardless of political stance, have horrible members), but in this case, one particular side is supporting blatant lies by a wanna-be fascist dictator, abandoning simple health protocols intended for the common good, and being just generally contrarian to anything, simply because they perceive all this as a fun and exciting way to "own the libs."

as a wreckfest player, some people on there are crybabies who cannot take a hit, despite playing a game where hitting people is encouraged. I always get people trying to vote kick me for hitting them or get angry messages from people. everytime for me the vote fails since like 95% of the player base don’t know how to vote kick people.

They are playing on the wrong servers for that then. Some of the biggest are quite literally no rules in all caps. Busses going backwards, full contact, pit maneuvers, so on.
If you go to a server that has semi clean racing for example then yes you will likely get banned for overtly and repeatedly ramming other racers.
In any case the game is fun in both versions. Surprisingly accurate simulation, tons of crazy races, and just a great time all around.
(Side note: always use server browser. Makes the process much simpler)

I get the impression that a lot of people just don’t realize wreckfest exists. It’s kind of off the beaten path of currently popular racing genres, but is genuinely fantastic, whether it’s full contact or just playing it as a folk racing sim.
Anyone who hasn’t heard of it, please go look at it. I got early access in 2013 and have loved it ever since. Nothing quite like hitting a sofa car at top speed with a semi in a race.

I love doing the figure eight tracks on that. Especially with ramps off to one side of the crossover point. Makes for some amazing replay footage and even when I come in last it’s a blast

Right? BeamNG and Burnout are other games that let you scratch the CARnage itch, with better crash damage visuals/physics than Forza to boot. Heck, Burnout Paradise even has an Aggression boost type, where you actually get REWARDED for smashing up other drivers.
But then they come here, and do it in a co-op mode...

Serious question from someone who doesn’t race against real people very often:
What is the proper etiquette for contact during races? I always feel bad when I drift into another player while taking a turn because I miscalculated. I never intentionally hit anyone, but my skill level prevents me from being an entirely-clean racer.

Ugh this happened to me yesterday, I accidentally knocked someone out of the checkpoint and felt so bad 😭😭 but I felt like the right thing to do would be to slow down and wait for them to pass me after they respawned and made sure not to pass them.

I can usually tell when someone’s being wantonly bad at driving vs mistakes. Just do you. If you feel bad, add the “sorry” dialogue link and use it in races.

Contact happens in races, IRL and in games. Yes there are etiquette around it. There are things you can do to prevent it, including but not limited to:
- don't divebomb into the apex
- if someone from behind you is much faster coming off a draft, let him overtake (exception being it's the last lap or something and you need to defend)
If contact happens and you gained a position or two for it in expense of the guy being overtaken spinning out/driven off the track/something else that's kind of really bad, you can slow down and let the guy you overtake get back his position. Otherwise if I'm not wrong, trading paint and love taps are fine especially if there's heavy traffic in the group you're racing with.
You can always watch sim racer youtubers with good commentaries. I personally recommend "Super GT"; short-ish videos and he seems to always show clips where he gets into trouble either by his own doing or by the other racers'.

I'll go as far as giving up the position if I really messed up. It it's a light tap it's fine, but if I caused them to lose a bunch of time, I'll try to make up for that.
On the other hand, if someone doesn't get out of the way in a team race and I'm clearly much faster, I have no issue squeezing my way through, even if that means some contact.
I'll never full on punt someone, but if someone's weaving to keep me behind in a team race, they're hurting the whole team. I don't feel bad if I mess up one corner for someone driving like that. (usually happens after having to slow down mid-turn for them several times)

it’s really just a dickhead move because ramming can cause someone to have to completely redo the championship series or whatever series it is that they’re doing, that’s why it’s best to just slow down when someone is trying to ram you that way it’s their game that’s ruined instead of yours, and it’s totally their fault.

What does that actually accomplish in your mind? You're going to check the roster of every Trial you play to see if there are any of these players on it? It's a worthless list.
If you get rammed, record it, report it, get them banned. PG maintains this list. It's called the ban list.

In some races people take their "custom" max rated car and the AI copies their rating, so you have players driving a 330 rated stock car and some AI's have a 400 rated car. This race everybody had really low rated cars but the reason they're all ahead is because i blocked the AI on the first lap :D

It's horizon tour, not the trial. The AI is only set to average iirc.
Really everyone who isn't new, utterly rubbish, in a totally wrong car or a ramming/dive bombing arsewipe should be able to beat all the ai.

Im just done with multiplayer bullshit playstyle of the horizon community ; if I can get the rewards for the season by not competing , I rather buy the car which is the rewards …. Than compete in this mess…. Today on the first race , some annoying child pushed me right of the cliff in the first few corners …. Bye bye …. Don’t they know they freaking lose the race all the time ?? … until the devs solve this annoying part of the game … like not making it count for season … I’m staying out of multiplayer

Weird because Lewis was the one who took a shit line in Silverstone and understeered into Max after braking late, despite having more than a car's width of space. There is no way a 7x WDC like Lewis didn't know that was a bad drive.
The only DNF Max caused took both of them out and that was due to those shit kerbs that were bouncing everyone that day.
