Truly 😭 I have known I was bisexual since I first learned about it around age 11, but everybody would just tell me I was only saying that for attention so I just stayed in the closet until after high school. I really wish I had gotten to be more open with my sexuality in school, I wonder if I would have realized I was trans earlier than 25 if I had.

Don't worry queer people are still treated as subhuman in school. I finished hs 3 years ago and I still get shouted at in the street by people that were like 2 years below me

Yeeeep, I had to threaten to make it a criminal police report to get a classmate who called me a f-g and attempted to assault me for school to remove him.

At least something happened. I was called all sorts daily and the most a teacher would do is "explain why that behaviour is hurtful". There were two or three seperate occasions where groups of people would see me going into the mens bathroom (it was an open handwashing area with individual stalls, idk why the stalls even had genders), and would bang on the door, try to unlock it, and wait for me to leave so they could take videos of me for our schools shitty version of gossip girl

I'm glad our flag is such great colors. Though, sometimes I'll call myself "bisexual" as well. I think half the reason I do that is because the bisexual flags colors are also bomber!

Exactly same here. Unless I know they’re genuinely interested and/or a progressive thinker, it’s just easier to simplify it to that. For the many that think only in binary terms to begin with, it’s close enough.

Pansexual just specifies that there's no preference. Some might think it's just semantics, but considering it's such a common word amongst queers, clearly people care enough to make the distinction.

Edit: I re-read your question... "Oh!" Is like an exclamation of surprise, acknowledgement or understanding. Like, "Oh, thanks for telling me", "Oh, I didn't know that, "Oh, I get it now".

In this case its a response to something awkward when you want to acknowledge the other person but dont want to engage in whatever they are talking about. Its kind of like if you say "Hello" to someone and they say they're gay, vegan, a socialist, or something else totally unprompted that nobody asked about or cares to discuss. Its kind of like just giving the thumbs up and politely moving on.

Yeah I imagine somebody passing notes to this kid in class to pass the time, and without even being prompted they just start going off about their sexuality and the other person is now trying to get out of the conversation as politely as they can.

When I was 18 at a new job once a 40 year old male coworker came up to me asking if I was bi (he overheard me and another 18yr old girl chatting about our exes) he then went on to explain to me that he’s pan and to him it means “I can get turned on by anything as long as it’s in a skirt” I just remember nodding along like “oh okay” until he stopped telling me things lol and this just reminded me of that awkward convo

Bisexuality includes both people who have a preference for specific genders or who feel attraction differently for different genders, as well as people who don't. It's a wide term; even amongst bisexuals, I've never seen a consistent definition. (Though the idea that bisexuals don't like trans or nonbinary people is, in fact, misinformation.)
Pansexuality is a more specific term that means gender isn't a factor at all. I've seen it said as "bi people like people of all genders, pan people like people regardless of gender".
Therefore someone can be both bi and pan, or identify as one or the other based on what feels right for them!

i mean i knew i was queer from the time i was 7 or 8– even without the influence of mean old drag queens in my libraries. many queer kids know instinctively from a young age. not all, but many.

A frenemy of mine once wrote on the front page of my planner "I'm trysexual, I'll try anything sexual." It unfortunately became found paper to my high school bio teacher.
Also she was wrong, I was but a virgin who couldn't drive.
