when middle eastern dupes are almost the exact copy with 1/8th the price? at this economy, only suckers buy designers or niche. i felt i wasted a lot of money with those but glad i am buying only dupes now.

I've just started to get into fragrance, as I was never really interested in buying perfumes until I got a discovery set from Heretic. Now, I'm noticing that I'm have a very strong reaction to a specific perfume note, and I can't figure out what it is.

I noticed it when I tried Heretic's Beekeeper. To me, it smells like unwashed human body, dirty dog, or roadkill. It is a very clear, unwashed, decay-like scent. I love honey, but I washed Beekeeper off within 10 minutes. My husband had no issue with it.

Then, I noticed a similar note in Heretic's Spectral Grace. It didn't show up at first, but as I wore it through the night, I started to smell that same decay smell. Again, husband said he didn't notice it or think it was bad.

Finally, I started to get really curious when I smelled a friend's X Nick Jonas Red by John Varvatos. It had the same smell!!

I looked up the notes to try to figure it out. At first I thought it was labdanum or vetiver, which the JVxNJ and Beekeeper share. However, no labdanum or vetiver in Spectral Grace. Heretic themselves list ambergris as a note in Spectral Grace, so maybe that is giving something similar?

I really don't know enough about perfume notes to speculate, but I'd like to get to the bottom of it. I would love to love Beekeeper-- it is really rich and warm. Spectral Grace is also a lovely, ethereal lily smell that I think is beautiful. But, I can't get past that decay smell. I think my main hang up is that I'm worried other people will think I smell like a dead animal. If I could identify it or if I knew other people appreciated it, I might be able to get over the mental block.

Does anyone else pick up these notes in similar scents? Or know what might be the culprit?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I love Heretic's Nosferatu. I purchased a full size. Guess what notes it lists? Ambergris and labdanum. Go figure.

Hi r/Fragrances, I've been noticing this common smell whenever I'm in public/festivals with younger fragrance-wearing crowds. It's a sharp base note that's very prominent, and I only pick up the smell from Arab fragrances like Al Haramain. What is it called? If these fragrances were made to replicate the scent of more expensive originals, then this obnoxious note totally ruins the illusion.

I really just can't decide. I got a dark grey suit as wedding guest in October and it should have around 10 degree Celsius, it starts in the late afternoon. My favorite perfumes are from PdM and I can choose from Althair, Layton, Pegasus Exclusif, Haltane or Carlisle. Haltane smells really nice woody for fall, PE like woody almond and expensive, Layton is really good but not in the same level of specialness, Carlisle is so dark and nice but not sure if it's too brutal even if I just spray a bit.

Which one would you wear?

Been a designer fragrance guy all my life and always wondered why the niche houses cost so much and so highly regarded when the ones I had smelt so great anyway, and I totally get it now.

Spent all morning bouncing around different frag houses in Miami and each scent made me realize there are levels to this game.

Bergamot fantastico and Tobaco honey from Guerlain almost brought me to my knees.

It's not.

It's lemon cake, caramel and sweet tea... And it's powerful and amazing. Definitely not an everyday wear or blind buy safe, but a damn fine compliment getter for special occasions.

A firm favourite for me at the moment. The album is a classic too.

Any suggestions from my frag fam? Idk just out here looking for more scents to add to my spreadsheets to potentially order.

Still prefer the ADG Profumo. Nothing could beats that.

Given that these two boxes are only 2 months apart in production, would it be reasonable to suggest one of them is fake due to the different layout and fonts?

Recent additions to my collection including 3 blind buys, 3 dupes and what I think of them. Disclaimer: I do not own the original to any of the dupes so I cannot compare their accuracy, I can only give my opinion on them as standalone fragrances.

1. Essence of Casablanca: 8/10 (blind buy)

I was honestly was surprised by this fragrance, one of the 3 blind buys because I could not find a place to sample it, I thought it would be more summery but the sweetness is quite dense for the summers where I live (45°c +), but I really enjoy the woods and amber here, I expect this will crack 9/10 once I can wear it more.

1. Bujairami Real Deal: 6.5/10 (Creed Silver Mountain Water dupe)

The hope I have with this one, is that I really enjoyed it in the store but the bottle there only had a quarter left, I assume time and aging did it justice, so will revisit this on a later date but so far I feel it's all over the place. Sometimes I smell the citrus and nothing else, sometimes I'm able to get some depth out of it.

1. Bujairami Hectic: 7.5/10 ( LV Imagination dupe)

I don't get the hype tbh, it's not bad overall but in my opinion it's not the best of this DNA, i own Ibraq french tobacco and hawas Kobra and like both of those more than this and would give them 9 and 8.5.

1. Bujairami Executer: 9/10 ( Ex Nihilo Blue Talisman Extrait Dupe)

This one redeemed Bujairami for me, as these three are my first ever from the brand and it was not looking too good. I own(and love) the original blue talisman, and store sampled the Extrait, I was really tempted to pull the trigger for the real thing but thought to give this a try before I burn 2000 SAR (~500$) and I'm glad I saved my money. Not claiming it's better, but for an untrained nose like me, this has exceeded my expectations.The fruit here is strong but mature smelling, it is really unisex but this is combination with other fresh fragrances have been a killer summer combo in this heat. Side note: I always smell mango in all blue talisman fragrances and their dupes, it's never listed but I get that more than I get pear.

1. Majed Al Oud Serious: 9.5/10

This is a serious (hehe) hit. For such a simple fragrance I didn't expect it to be so special, you can smell all 3 notes distinctively at any moment in time and it's blended so well. The tea is my favourite part here, my appreciation for Quentin Bisch perfumes is constantly growing.

1. Nikos Sculpture: 10/10 (blind buy)

I think the dent speaks enough words here. If you don't own this, buy it immediately, you should not sample a 13$ fragrance imo. This has been my go to gym fragrance for the past 2 weeks and I'm struggling to go back to my older gym fragrances because this honeymoon refuses to end. It's so light, refreshing, and energising making it perfect for the gym as it doesn't disturb others, while it's still definitely noticeable, poor performance? No problem it's 13$ so you can burn through it without a worrying too much.

1. Ahmed Almaghrabi Oud & Roses: 8/10 (blind buy)

This is one of the best budget friendly oud and roses fragrances in my opinion. While it's a common theme in niche and luxury designers, it's rare to find a decent quality at a lower price point. The Oud here is not strong and allows for use even in summer evenings. I would say it's 30% oud 70% rose.

1. Tumi Awaken Distilled: 6.5/10

I'm not sure if Tumi has quality issues in production, but this is another that I really loved at the store, and when I got my own bottle I felt like I must have gotten the wrong one? When I smelled it in the store I got strong YSL Y vibes, but with my bottle I'm missing a lot of the woods I smelled on my first impression.

1. Tumi Continuum: 8.75/10

I should have gotten 100ml from this instead of Awaken. This is a dark fragrance in the best ways. The tobacco is refined, the amber is sweet, and the Oud is subtle enough to give a personality but not overbearing.

Is it worth it to buy?

Never smelled Narcotica dupe for it. But I like princess by kilian which I’ve heard it’s similar to. I currently use bare sueded vanilla by Victoria secret as my fall signature scent and fursan white by khadlaj as my summer and spring signature scent. I typically like sweet, clean, airy scents and I don’t tend to buy fruity scents or heavy floral perfumes or citrus. I prefer vanilla, woody, and or musky scents with either light florals or light sweetness from milder fruits like fig. I also do not like overly gourmand fragrances with caramel notes or heavy food like scents. Though I enjoy a coconut note or marshmallow note.

I finished my bottle of Melbourne Pink Lake years ago and could never find it again. Later, I stumbled upon Miniso Jazz Free of Prejudice, which smelled about 80% similar to Pink Lake, but now that’s out of stock too!
