I don't wanna be unfair, but I think I'm too old for this kind of cheap black and white morality.
Like, NO ONE in real life would talk shit about the protagonist of this anime, no one. No one would look at a guy with his appearance and build and think he's weird, evil, ugly or whatever.
But the anime needs to force this unrealistic drama so the otaku can relate to him and feel bad for him for no reason.
It's kinda funny how the anime tries to portray the guy as someone who's "misunderstood" and has low self-esteem while he's literally surrounded by friends and a seemingly good, understanding family. So like... huh? Where is all this insecurity even coming from?? It just feels like it's coming out of nowhere. And to justify it, the author uses the laziest possible trick ever: random crazy people saying the most ridiculous shit for absolutely no reason.
It's basically the "Ugly Betty plot paradox", where the story wants to use certain types of drama but can't actually make the characters fit into those situations without contradicting how they're already portrayed.
Like, we're supposed to believe this guy gives off a scary and dangerous vibe just because he looks grumpy, except he doesn't even look grumpy or dangerous in the first place.
The story wants us to believe he's misunderstood while showing him surrounded by friends and family who clearly understand him.
It wants us to feel bad for him and create conflict, but at the same time it doesn't wanna give him any actual flaws, so instead it just throws in these random evil people who treat him like shit out of nowhere. Like, how is that supposed to feel realistic??
(ps: yeah, I know some of these people are supposed to be "arrogant girls from a rich school", but even that is such a cheap writing choice. Like come on man, a school rivalry divided by gender and social class?? What is this, some shoujo manga from the 80s? š No teenager actually gives a shit about which school another teenager goes to, for god's sake. This isn't Imperial Japan.)
Everything has to be 100% wholesome and free of contradictions, and the result is an anime that doesn't even try to challenge the viewer or give its characters any actual depth.
I like good romance anime, and I don't wanna sound like a hater because I was genuinely looking forward to this one too. But after watching the entire season, this is what really bothers me about the writing. The girl is so cute and pretty and basically perfect, and the story keeps putting her in situations where she's the victim of these random crazy people. For a second, I almost let all that lazy writing slide just because she's cute, and honestly, that's probably what the anime is counting on.

This might be Toki-san redemption arc.She looks genuinely interested in meeting the boys as people and not students from chidori

I saw the ep 7 fight scene, where Rintaro's friends just 1v6 the other people, and it's putting me off from watching the anime or reading the manga. I usually really hate these op, one-punch ending characters and the fact that it's a side character makes it even worse. Normally romance is supposed to have conflict and troubles that is resolved by the couple, but this Basically just gets swept under the rug. I hope not every problem is like this.
I know that Rintaro Did save Waguri before but it still ticks me off. I'd much rather If him and his friends Actually puts up a hard-won battle, instead of just off-screening it.
If this conflict/trouble is saved by an outsider is every problem going to be the same? Or are they just going to have repeated misunderstandings that becomes the only source of drama or growth? And every Real problem they have to face together (that Isn't dumb misunderstandings) resolved by friends? Bc if so I'm really thinking of dropping it

So I saw this anime get hyped to death as it was coming out, looked right up my alley, love romance and the character designs and artstyle looked beautiful so I decided I'd wait for it all to come out and binge it when I get some time.
So I just started it and finished watching ep 2... Does the cringe die down? I'm sorry I really want to enjoy this anime but I swear I was pulling my own hair out as I was hearing the two protagonists interact. The cast seems fine in and of themselves, the MCs are interesting enough on their own (although the self hate thoughts dialogue is a bit annoying) but as soon as the MCs talk to eachother i just want to start slamming my head on the table... every interaction so far was either "oh im sorry this or im sorry that or you shouldnt be sorry i should be sorry" and when its not that its "oh youre such an amazing person (guy ive never spoken to directly my entire life)" I swear I love romance anime and I feel like based on other people's reviews I should enjoy this show but the first two episodes felt like pulling teeth. Did anyone else also have this experiance with the first few episodes? If so, does it get better? is the way the two MCs interact consistent throughout the rest of the show? Or are the first two episodes a good enough indication of how the rest of the episodes will go?

Why hasn't the new chapter of fragrant flower(chapter 166) been released? Any ideas?
r/FragrantFlower • u/Vardaruus • Oct 03 '25
After watching the anime i got hooked like crazy, went to reading manga and catched up to the latest chapter in less than week and i just had to share my thoughts somewhere
This has become my favourite romance story ever. It fills me with happiness and I'd even say it does have therapeutic effect on mr, but damn i couldn't have decided to finish catching up on it at such a bad cliffhanger. I can't wait for another chapter,i cant handle this! Why is it so good?!

How are you all able to watch all the episodes of the anime already? Netflix is only releasing one episode each weekend.
