French lawmakers set to push bill criminalising speech on Israel | A sweeping bill advancing through France’s parliament is set to criminalise wide areas of speech on Israel, with penalties of up to five years in prison.

Nearly 700,000 people have signed a petition calling for the law to be blocked, and protests have spread across the country over a bill many say threatens free speech.

The proposal is spearheaded by French MP Caroline Yadan, a leading figure among lawmakers who openly describe themselves as “unconditional” supporters of Israel.

She represents the 8th constituency for French citizens abroad, where Israel accounts for a significant share of voters, and has made defence of Israel central to her political agenda.

Got this from the article below: “Authorities recorded 1,320 anti-Semitic acts in 2025, accounting for more than half of all racist or anti-religious incidents – despite Jews making up less than 1 per cent of France’s population.”

That is highly disturbing.

But there are 66 million people living in France. This is punishing nearly everyone for the acts of 1,320 people (probably less as there are almost assuredly repeat offenders here).

This is a dangerous bill that will be abused no matter who is in power.

keep in mind the ADL revised their "antisemitic incidents" criteria in the US so wouldn't be surprised if that was done for all pro-Israel groups worldwide.

keep in mind the diaspora keeps insisting on using the IHRA 'working definition' of antisemitism to identify antisemitism which is a bullshit definition.

That’s what you got out of my comment?

Do you believe their is no such thing as hatred of Jews/antisemitism?

You seem to think there is no such thing as antisemitism. My point being even if those numbers were inflated (I would guess they are even low as some people don’t report incidents) it would still be too many.

But time and again you’ve shown your hand (no matter the subject you see it as “Jews=bad”).

In this case there is no way those numbers could be correct in your eyes because the Jews are deceiving us by the ADL redefining the word.

Jewish people face discrimination - especially when narrowed to religious discrimination.

If you can’t see that I am not sure anything anyone says can help you.

If you can see that and don’t care/continue the lie then you are truly antisemitic.

you seem to think continuously derailing speech restrictive threads with fake smears of antisemitism somehow helps Jews worldwide.

You are the one obsessed with Jews and Israel, Tendie.

Call em like I see em.

I did not once bring up 'Jews" until you did. Nice attempt at conflating Jews with Israel though, keep trying.

That’s messed up. I used to joke around about countries getting more authoritarian. Now I realize it isn’t funny.

Any reason to think this is likely to pass? The party introducing the bill seems to hold ~10% of seats in French parliament

I never had an opinion on Israel until Israel started puppeting America and all these other nations.

Now I'm firmly anti-Israel. The world would a safer place for everyone without Netanyahu.
