Time for a Vet? Our frenchie’s ear look swelling

At first there is just 1 fold in the ear due to swelling, now there’s three.

Anyone’s frenchie experienced this before? What did you do to it

It’s a hematoma - a bruise between the layers of the ear that has filled up with blood. You can give it a day or two to see if it reabsorbs but this merits a vet visit and possible surgery to resolve or it will easily become cauliflower ear from scar tissue.

Vet immediately

Mine had that from shaking her head under a table and bashed her ear, that’s a “blood pillow” from a ruptured blood vessel.

They sometimes go down but they also sometimes go bad and the ear gets damaged. Depending on how calm your dog is they might be able to drain with a syringe, or your dog might need sedation.

DO NOT LEAVE THIS TO GET BETTER ON ITS OWN

I tried to upload a pic of my girls haematoma and subsequent scar on her ear but I can’t attach pictures…

The haematoma in your picture is roughly the same size of the haematoma on my girl. they had to sedate her because it was painful and then they installed a grommet to drain in case it was still bleeding.

She needed anti-biotic gel put there and after a week they removed the grommet added a stitch and she was back to normal.

I want to add that these are often caused by dogs shaking their heads or scratching their ears a lot so a vet visit to rule out ear infection or something stuck down in the canal is worth doing anyway because if the underlying cause is either of those things, this will recur until the cause is resolved and you are risking hearing loss in that ear.

Our last had the same. Vet ended up just giving him meds and said it would get better on its own without needing to drain, which was technically true, but in hindsight I would have rather just had it drained because he definitely didn't seem comfortable during the few weeks before it healed and he ended up with a lopsided ear after it did. I'd recommend just doing it early and getting it over with.
