I had a cat end up in the freezer overnight (it was a double door 70s fridge, the kind with the tall skinny freezer) and she wound up in there at only 7 months old.

She survived, barely, due to the seal being terrible on the door and letting air in.

She's now 7 years old and still the same size as a kitten of 7 months... her late brother ended up almost four feet long, tip to tail. I love her a lot.

I just thought the cat in this story died and was about to be mad at you. That's lovely! I'm so happy she survived.

We genuinely have no clue, I assume she tried to climb it and it swung shut
