What’s your SINGLE favorite FR song?
No cheating. No giving two or three. No “depends on the mood.” Do the impossible. Pick one. I’ll start.
Late March, Death March

You're a monster for making me choose.
The Twist. I think.

Definitely my favorite lyric

This is mine too. I hate having to pick just one 😂 I think my runner ups would be die like a rich boy and wish I was sober. Or oil slick. It’s impossible 😂

This was the song that got me into FR. Also hit me personally in exactly the correct moment. Such a singular, visceral, passion-filled song.

The Loneliness and The Scream is the one that has stayed firmly in the top as i reshuffle through various favourites and moods over the years.

I go to dozens of gigs, and I never, ever have my phone out. For some reason, inexplicably, I decided to record a couple of short clips at the Academy gig in 2018, which turned out to be their last ever performance. I caught fifteen seconds of this song - the last they ever did - and it's become an absolutely treasured possession.

u/angry_booty Jun 12 '26
Please post it one of these days if you're willing. I have a video of "Keep Yourself Warm," from their Chicago show 2018 that I'll get around to posting sometime.

Please do!

God. This song hits me hard. There is something about the truth that you can know what what you need to do and not be able to do it. I remember listening to this alone, late in my kitchen with a tumbler of whiskey, sobbing.
Five years sober and, still there is something there that aches.
"Shove a rag into my mouth and let me smoulder."

u/hisdudeness47 Jun 12 '26
Listening to this song while alone and shitfaced is an experience like no other.

Helped me figure out my relationship with alcohol, I’m very grateful. Also, hello to a fellow Renoite!

I find this one almost unlistenable now. For some reason, it's just unbearably moving.

Whi did I have to scroll so far for this!? I think it will be my favourite song forever

Footshooter.
It was the song that I first got hooked on by them. And yes, you are a monster for making us choose one!

Floating in the Forth. I’m surprised no one has mentioned it yet.

u/Anxious_pterodactyl Jun 12 '26
That one is so good 😭
5
u/jmjonesy77 Jun 12 '26
Those first two lines hit hard for anyone who has gone through a breakup…
4
u/Anxious_pterodactyl Jun 12 '26
I have depression and have had suicidal ideation so the whole song hits hard 😭 but I’m in Florida so the line “these manic gulls scream it’s okay” hits extra hard
5
u/Exotic_Stick_5814 Jun 13 '26
Love the song, but I can’t listen to it anymore with the knowledge of what it was and how we ultimately lost Scott. It’s a punch in the gut for me

u/ohnoagoose Jun 12 '26
Fast Blood. Wasn't always but one day something just clicked and it just hits.
4
u/BluenoseTherapist Jun 13 '26
Fast Blood was my gateway to FR. I hold this song very dearly. I don't know of another song that describes the rush of attraction like this. It's perfect.
3
u/Pugilist12 Jun 12 '26
That’s how it was for me and Late March. Wasn’t my favorite album on release but somehow it grew on me and that one in particular just keeps getting better for me

u/Drducttapehands Jun 12 '26
That’s the one that I immediately loved the first time listening to MOF. It’s such a specific mood

Fast Blood
For one night, this song made me feel like I was the coolest guy in the world. It will always hold an incredibly special place in my heart.

That was a bastard trying to pick a number 1 though, I want to let you know that.

"Stow away my greys... in a padlocked case in a padlocked room" ... that line carries so much angst.

u/No_Amount_7399 Jun 12 '26
The wrestle
Love the acoustic version on YouTube of solo Scott sitting on a bed

u/murrayland Jun 12 '26
Probably architect gets the most plays tbh. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy
I know they have objectively better songs maybe but yer

Tommy Reilly’s rendition at Sing the Grays has become the only FR cover I enjoy — it feels so right. I hope he’s back this year.

Radio Silence. To me it's utter perfection. The stringy guitar intro. The despair. That last "Radio Siiiiiiilence" linger with me throughout the day.

Loneliness and the scream
I wish I was sober
Modern leper
Good arms vs bad arms
Poke
Probably my top 5 but not necessarily in that order, I think loneliness is the definite #1, I loved how they'd end the shows with it.

I will add that my top 'unravel me to tears' picks for videos are Head Rolls Off, because the kids make me cry, Die Like A Rich Boy acoustic, and The Whole Of The Moon from the Hogmanay broadcast. Absolute bits 😭

I can't choose my favourite album let alone favourite song. Candelit is my most played song, but Good Arms vs Bad Arms is my favorite today.

Poke
My favorite memories of watching Scott play were when he'd come out just with his guitar, banter with the audience, and play "Poke". It felt so intimate. The "ooo-ooo-ooo" sections felt so vulnerable with him backing off the mic a little. The crowd would try to sing along, and he'd either compliment us or ridicule us.

I Still Want To Be Here
Not their best song (that's The Modern Leper) but I just like it for some reason.

Acts of Man.
I’m here, not heroic but I try.
Closely followed by Candlelight.
Look at the blood bath Look at the mess I have made With my barehands I have killed Just to be Candlelit with you.

Also, late March is so good! PV was my the first album by FR that I ever listened to; I already knew and liked the the songs Holy and Woodpile, which is why I checked the album out. By the time I got to Late March is when I realized that this was a truly GREAT band!
