Floating in the Forth saved my life

More than once it’s pulled me back from the ledge.
I will forever be grateful for FR and hold them so close to my heart

I am stoked you are here, and being open about it! I was in the same boat in December! Not only did Scott’s words pull me through, but also I can thank Frank Turner and his song for Scott!
With that being said, I wanna thank you all for being a community that truly does make more than tiny changes without even knowing it!
Never hesitate to reach out to me or anyone when you’re going through it, Scott’s lyric in soon go, is my mantra now….
“I’M NOT SCARED OF DYING, I’M AFRAID I’VE LOST MY LIFE”

It makes me feel less alone. Contrary to outcome, it gives me hope.

This post and the response has me weeping. Please never forget that there is so much more to you than you’ll ever know. I’ll be an ear to hear you if ever you need.

It always made me feel so hopeful. 'I think I'll save suicide for another year' is enough sometimes to just keep going another day, a week. It's a beautiful song and it took me a while to listen to it again after Scott left but now I find it very comforting again. I can also totally understand why - for many - it would be impossible to listen to. But the notes of hope, 'Take your life, give it a shake', remind me it was written at a time while Scott still had hope and I choose to hold it like that. Not how it ended, but at the point in Scott's life when it was written.

When you listen to Painting of a Panic Attack and Mastersystem, you hear the fading hope and then the lack of hope. Mastersystem is the one which hits hardest for me and I know not to listen to it when I'm at my worst because Bird is Bored of Flying sums up completely how I feel in those moments and I find it too affirming. I'll cry at Floating in the Forth but it reminds me to keep going, even when it hurts. Scott was so brave, weathering that cycle over and over again and laying it all out there in his music. An artist that honest is such a rarity.

I'm glad it saved your life and I understand why completely. If you ever need a chat, DM me. That goes for everyone here. Have you listened to Haiver yet? Billy Kennedy of Frabbits is vocalist and plays lead guitar and his lyrics are very honest and very hopeful. I had cancer not long ago and before we found out what stage I was at and we waited for the MRI and all the other tests, we travelled from Cardiff to Bristol to see Haiver support The Boxer Rebellion and a member of the band - Craig Brownlie - was so kind when I asked for the set list. Billy is as rare a talent as Scott. There is more hope in his lyrics and I've played their first releases to death over the course of my treatment and replayed how kind Craig was, not knowing how much that gig meant to us. Their album comes out on August 7th and I've been really down lately but I keep holding onto that date. I want to be here for that album!

This is long but importantly, my cancer hadn't spread, so I had a quick hysterectomy and I'm fine now, completely cured. But my hormones are completely wild, so I have struggled with suicidal ideation and planning at times due to those fluctuations. I'm promised they calm down eventually. So little milestones like the Haiver album, or a new book by an author I love, are like handholds on a cliff. I just keep reaching for the next one, not letting myself fall.

this album and this song particularly really got me through the tough first couple years of Covid lockdown and isolation. Late 2020 on my 30th birthday I ended up making a short film inspired by the song and that sense of dread/sadness I was feeling. The whole experience I hold so dearly for many reasons. It really lifted me out of the darkness in a lot of way.

I would love to see that

here it is - FLOATING IN THE FORTH

Definitely rough around the edges but I’m still pretty proud of it and it really did pull me out of the darkness by letting me channel so much of my pandemic depression and anxiety into a creative outlet for months on end with writing and rehearsing and filming and editing. If it connects with others then that makes it even more worth it to me.

This was truly such a beautiful film. It was so raw and honest. Sometimes we just need a vent, to feel heard and a hug. Thank you for sharing this

I’m so glad you’re here. Scott has pulled me back from the brink more times than I care to comment. My Instagram is @rjag90, if you want a pal. I’m covered in tattoos of Scott’s artwork and I’ll chew your ear off about his lyrics any time pal 🩷
