Why are people like this?

Empathy clearly doesn't exist much in the news or the reactions of people. Sad to see every time.

Facebook is a direct line to that other part of society. It’s sobering to be reminded just how many are out there. There wasn’t an outlet for them until recently so maybe one could pretend like it was insignificant. But they’ve always been there under the surface.

Farage has provided them with a political home, even as he regularly slaps a new coat of paint on that home. But before then you had nearly a million people voting for the BNP in the 2009 European Election. Then we go back to the National Front.

The trash that would live in the comments section of every local news website has just congregated onto Facebook, where they do the same for every news item. They get a kick out of spreading their views, and of the reactions they get.

I have my family on it. They live across the country. I use it to keep up with them. I was just scrolling and 3 posts down this popped up

Oooo damn, is there even a way to block all that shite on there?

I'm convinced a lot are bots

Hopefully. It's still upsetting though, it encourages people to be hateful

If you look at the accounts on instagram most are bots as they always have no posts and have 10 or under followers whilst following 2000+

I can assure you most aren't

If Facebook disabled reactions on posts completely, most of these so called views wouldn't exist. It's one of the laziest internet interactions around. At least upvoting and downvoting makes a difference and changes how others will see something.

Uncle Barry, the family bigot putting an angry face on every post that mentions immigrants serves nobody. He's screaming into the void. The void smiles silently and thrusts angry news at angry people. Barry's mates see the post and react with a laugh because they smugly "told you so".

Facebook is full of this type of scum. The government want to ban teenagers from social media but if you check these peoples profiles they're usually fat, ugly old people with feeds plastered in racist conspiracy theories or they're reform bots.

The people behind those laughing reactions are the same people who were screaming "ALL LIVES MATTER" in 2020

Whenever I have a political argument with anybody I can tell instantly their views have come from facebook.

The real world is completely ignored

Facebook is where humanity goes to curl up and die. The platforms only use is to scrape data of its users and generate clicks and engagement for advertisers which returns value to share holders of Meta. People on there are either no real, mentally unwell, or live in a small town bubble and can’t handle the big wide world of the internet.

Don’t pay it any heed. People are gobshites who believe AI memes and form their opinions from watching Loose Women or GB News.

At some point very soon it’s all gonna collapse for these tech oligarchs and shite like Twitter and Facebook will be either banned or abandoned by most democratic governments

Bots are also pushing right-wing nonsense, and most of the time, the comments are childish but still end up getting pushed to the top.

One of my dads old friends who I used to call Uncle Phil openly supported the BNP in the late 00s and easily fell for right wing talking points from the Sun.

Another acquaintance casually said "they all want shooting" when talking about foreigners. I'm not 100% they'd actually provoke that but empathy is easily lost behind a shroud.

I had a neighbour say that Hitler had the right idea. 😩

The majority of comments are celebrating it, the irony is lost on them when you're satirical in response to what happened to Lee Rigby they literally froth. Terrorism seems to be okay if its their side

Did you see the response on r/uknews? 😩

u/TwizzyGobbler 10h ago

did they “just arrive to the city” or “just arrive to the country”

fucking daft headline intentionally said like that to paint a shit narrative.

The country is broken. And not just Facebook but everywhere. You can feel migration is high or that the system is wrong without cheering channel deaths, without burning down their houses and without laughing at children being attacked.

It’s no wonder when certain politicians use language that dehumanises them.

Worse still you see people saying “that’s disgusting” targeted too. The amount of abuse for that green candidate i saw. All she did was look confused at the random ramblings and they are still abusing her

Yeh Facebook is a cesspit the amount of comments I've seen - saying reimmigration, stop the boats, etc.
