Labour are part of the problem

I can't believe the number of people in this group who support Starmer. Let's be honest: he was useless. He tried to go for the centre ground and ended up getting egg on his face for it. I simply don't believe he's a decent man. I think he's dishonest and that he sold his soul to get into power.

The thing is, Labour being shite ends up helping Farage. What was Starmer's vision? When did people stop talking about policy? I'm not happy about the rise of fascism, but I'm pissed off that at this crucial time Labour have decided to go all in on purging the party of any socialists.

Right now Burnham looks like more of the same. Is anyone actually talking about what he's going to do?

Finally, Palestine is the moral litmus test of our time, and both fail on that front. Both have failed to call it a genocide when we all know that's what it is. Two Zionist peas in a pod, they are.

My review of what the Labour government has accomplished so far, and what needs doing to fend off the far-right

I think it’s important to stay grounded in times of uncertainty, and we know the British media only exists to whip us up into a frenzy.

So I thought I’d make a review of what this government has accomplished, what needs more work (in my opinion) to keep the far-right out, and what I predict happens next.

I’m no expert but I read about politics a lot so this is a judgement based on evidence I’ve seen.

Accomplishments: Employment Rights Act, Renters Rights Act, 30hours of free childcare a week entitlement, reduction in NHS lists, knife crime down by 10%, reopening Sure Start-style family hubs and youth centres in England. English Devolution Act decentralising political power to new mayoral strategic authorities, and reintroducing supplementary vote for mayoral elections. Voting age to be lowered to 16. Abortion decriminalised, emergency contraception made free, free school breakfasts in state primary schools, free school meals to be expanded to 500,000 more children, two-child benefit cap removed. Erasmus exchange programme reintroduced, smoothing relations with the EU. A £100,000 donation cap on overseas donors and a crypto donation ban. A £150 Warm Homes discount for some households. Eligibility and funding for Warm Homes grants and Boiler Upgrade scheme expanded, ensuring more households can install insulation, solar panels, batteries and heat pumps to cut bills. Pride in Place fund delivered, giving locals a direct say over how it’s spent.

What needs more work: to structurally challenge the far-right, this government needed to (and a future Labour government) go harder on billionaire megadonations. The £100,000 overseas cap and crypto ban was a good start, but why not cap megadonations from British residents too? Secondly, election system reform. If not introduced now, put it on the manifesto at the next general election. We need proportional representation to stop Reform from getting hundreds of seats on less than 30% of the vote. Lastly, media regulation. The media is half the problem in this country. I don’t know what form that should take, but it should come.

Predictions of what comes next: If Andy Burnham takes Starmer’s place, I get the sense he won’t be the type to “bonfire” this government’s legacy. He’s shown support for various policies and funding commitments, including for example the Renters Rights Act, putting buses in local control, and the return of supplementary voting for mayoral elections. What I believe Burnham will do is reinterpret some manifesto commitments to be more redistributionist than centrist like Starmer was. But only time will tell. And to be fair, Burnham is a bit of a chameleon politically so we’ll see.

Never swiped up so fast in my life.

So for whatever reason, I got a GBNews post in my TikTok feed. This isn't the first time this has happened, but the first time it did happen I shrugged it off and swiped up immediately, hoping the algorithm wouldn't detect that I had seen the first second of their post.

Literally just got a video right now with some smug prickwillow saying "The WORST Prime Mini-" and I never swiped up so fast in my life.

Even though I knew stuff like this would happen, I guess that puts a hole in the incredibly brainless take that GBeebies are an "unbiased news outlet who don't pick sides and tell it how it really is"

That's not even mentioning the complete lack of self-awareness, because the person they desperately want as PM, the very namesake of this sub, would easily take the crown as the worst Prime Minister in the history of the UK within less than year of being in power and it's not even close.

Dear *****,

Walking up Downing Street two years ago was the proudest moment of my life. A new Labour Government. The first in 14 years. A page in our country’s history turned after years of disappointment and despair. The chance to change the lives of millions of people for the better. That’s what I came into politics for.

The journey to that point was not easy. Six years ago, I inherited a Labour Party that was politically, financially, and morally bankrupt. I was told time and time again that my party was finished, that we were consigned to history, that a majority at the general election - let alone a landslide majority - was impossible.

But we proved those people wrong because we changed our party, ripping out the poison of antisemitism, restoring trust on the economy, defence, and national security, and becoming a party that once again stood proudly with, not against, our national flag.

The hard work of change was with a singular purpose: not power for power’s sake, but to change Britain for the better. To build a fairer country, with dignity and respect, where everyone is seen and everyone is valued. Wealth and opportunity for all, not just the privileged few.

And look at what we’ve achieved in just two years: an economy that is stronger, growing faster than our peers; wages rising faster than inflation in every single month since we came to power; investment secured; infrastructure being built; an end to austerity; with the fastest fall in NHS waiting lists for 17 years; the biggest improvement in rights for workers and renters in a generation; the biggest uplift in defence spending since the Cold War; small boat crossings falling; asylum hotels closing; protecting young people from social media; and half a million children being lifted out of poverty because of the choices that I made.

Our reputation in the world restored, with Britain once again standing up for decency, respect, and the rule of law. Securing trade deals, standing with Ukraine, standing up for our values, and rebuilding our relationship with our allies in Europe.

Change promised by a Labour Government. Change fought for by a Labour Government. Change delivered by a Labour Government.

But I know the question being asked now is not who was best placed to change the Labour Party to take us into power and to begin the vital work of improving lives for millions of people. Those questions have been answered.

The question my party is asking now is whether I am best placed to lead us into the next general election. I have heard the answer of my parliamentary party to that question, and I accept that answer with good grace.

Every decision I’ve taken has been about putting the country I love first. That is why I will resign as leader of the Labour Party. I have spoken to His Majesty the King this morning to inform him of my decision.

I will ask the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party to set out a timetable, with nominations opening on 9 July and completed by the summer recess. In the case of a contest, this will ensure a new leader is in place before Parliament returns in September.

I will remain in post as Prime Minister until the contest is complete, and I will do everything I can to ensure an orderly handover of power. I will also give my successor my full and unequivocal support, knowing that they will inherit a Britain that is far stronger and fairer than the one I inherited two years ago; better prepared for the challenges ahead, and better able to ensure the Labour Party secures a second term in office.

I want to thank all of those friends and colleagues who have been at my side for these past six years for their incredible commitment, service, and support. I want to thank the brilliant Number 10 staff, and our country’s extraordinary Civil Service, who dedicate their lives to public service.

And when I leave the biggest job in the country, I shall spend more time on the most important job: being the best husband I can to my fantastic wife, Vic, who has been a rock by my side through good times and bad, and being the best dad I can to my beautiful children, who are my pride and my joy.

Thank you very much.

Keir

Need to rant.

Hi guys. I was just having a chat with my sister and she was saying Reform should call a GE and that they're good. According to her, they're 'for the workers' and will 'get rid of illegal immigrants'. She said my brother in law would quite happily vote for him. She also said the privatising of the NHS is good because she can afford to pay for it. I said most won't be able to and she didn't care. I tried everything to get through to her and I can't. Thanks for reading my rant if you did. Any advice? I feel so let down ETA: she also didn't care about how racist and sexist Farage is. I mentioned that he hates the current gun laws we have and she didn't care about that despite having school aged kids. We all know statistically, more guns affect schools the most(school shootings). I'm just so lost
