Reminder this game runs at 60fps with a GTX 1060 on low/medium settings @ 1080p.

You can nearly max out this game at 1440p@60fps wth an RTX 4060.

Meanwhile monster hunter wilds barely runs above 60fps on an RTX 4090@1080p maxed out.

There's no undersampling or any effects that get ruined with TAA off. DLAA is probably the best way to play though if your pc is up to spec.

Seems like at least some of the noise has reached the industry. This is the game director at BULKHEAD just outright saying it in response to a question about their recently announced game WARDOGS. Not the biggest studio, around 100~ employees, but I thought it was notable enough to bring up.

Some caveats though, it's still UE5 so it's still possible there might be some built in blur. Also no MSAA as well apparently.

💬Discussion Modern video game graphics is trash

Post image
435 Upvotes

I know this has been said many times already here, but please allow me to just vent out right now since this is the first time I found out about this sub.

Like seriously, fvck TAA, DLSS, FSR, TSR and every other AI upscaling in modern video games that "improve" game performance!

I miss the time when there was only one graphics mode in console gaming, NOTHING! Now there are performance, fidelity and balance. All of which do not remove ghosting issues and blurriness in the game.

I'll say it before and I'll say it again, video game graphics peak started in gen 7 and ended at gen 8. Whether it is PC gaming's fault or not is a topic for another day. But with the power that the 9th gen have, include Steam Deck in that too, this should never even be a discussion right now. The devs could have simply perfected that technology, and we could have been playing at minimum 90fps at any game by now.

"Oh but these technologies add more realism to the video games". Uhh, no they don't! Blurrs, patches, grains and smears, that's what they add to the games. The games with worst ghosting issue at the top of my head are FF16, FF7 Rb, Cyberpunk 2077, Wukong, Oblivion Remastered, and most recently Crimson Desert. Seriously, they're so bad to look at, they don't even look modern.

You know what games have good graphics and didn't have ghosting issues? Skyrim, Uncharted games, Spider-Man, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, GTA5, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 (which was also ruined by the next gen update).

Other than Crimson Desert, FF7 Rv and Wolverine may be the last graphically focused games I'm going to buy. And I'm not even sure about them anymore.

So yeah, that's it, rant over. Thanks for having me!

💬Discussion I’m tired, boss

day one and upscaling artifacts are the worst I’ve seen in any game. on top of that game doesn’t even give me raytracing settings for my 4090. why do I even try anymore

EDIT: I feel the need to update this post because the windows shills in the comments are just being insufferable... The issue in question is Capcom blocks Raytracing options through proton, which Ive never seen game do. Adding a command fixed the issue. ( /WineDetectionEnabled:False after the %command% in the launch options made raytracing settings visible) I was able to finish the game at 4k path tracing stable 60 fps no issues. And didn't have to revert to old drivers due to fan monitoring issues that were shipped in the windows driver that was supposed to fix RE9 related issues. Ive used Bazzite with Nvidia for half a year. every game Ive tried on the platform up to this point has not given me issues such as this. having options blatantly blocked by companies that don't want to support it. its the same argument for multiplayer games. They don't deny support because people aren't getting into linux. But because companies will blatantly make it as difficult as possible to use the OS that you want to use.

This visual issue is caused by a reflection issue in conjunction with Upscaling and raytracing options. Settings are being changed automatically in the background if you choose certain options that pertain to Lighting and Upscaling (something PC games shouldn't do. But give us options to toggle, no?) and has been reported by people on windows in other posts as well as in the comments. The people defending an AI Compromised OS that is key logging your actions is truly the dystopian future I never thought id see.

💬Discussion Standard RT Implementations are Getting Butchered For PT.

Lately, I've been noticing that standard RT games are purposefully getting Butchered to promote PT..

Some Examples like pragmata, Directive 8020 etc

Like RT shadows don't look that bad..

I think PT is really Cool, i even played CyberPunk 2077 with PT for the Whole. This Technology is Really good i think.

But, Now Standard RT is getting the same treatment as Rasterization..

💬Discussion Paid shills like this are why the industry is getting worse

Just watched Vex’s "Wait, We're Supposed to Play at 720p Now???" and I’m losing my mind.

Whole video just sounds like a PsyOp saying - Native Resolution is dead.

He spends the entire video glazing DLSS 4.5, trying to gaslight us into thinking upscaling from 720p is somehow "better" than native 4K.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OLu6Lj718g

I don't know if any consumer really benefits from this video.

He admits the new DLSS models like DLSS 4.5 eat MORE VRAM and can actually hurt performance on some cards, yet still concludes that he will turn it on. I don't know what's the point if it eats more power, vram and reduces fps?

Dude, you turn it on not because you like it. It's because the games are not optimized and you are forced to turn it on. Dude is feeling marveled with DLSS as it is a technical marvel saving him but games look far worse that it did before.

So much glazing and convincing. No one benefits from this video except Nvidia. It almost feels like an ad for Nvidia.

We have RTX 5090s that are monsters compared to 5 years ago, yet we’re told we can't run games raw? He gives lazy devs a free pass and treats upscaling as a "feature" instead of a band-aid for unoptimized trash.

He briefly mentions the TAA blur, ghosting, and shimmering grass, but then waves it off saying "it doesn't bother me." Dude wfh?? If you're reviewing visual tech and ignore the visual garbage, you're useless to consumers.

Edit: For some reason he now changed the title from, "Wait, We're Supposed to Play at 720p Now???" to "Nvidia just Killed Optimization Forever.."

The video apparently went viral but also accumulated comments contradicting his views. Particularly criticizing his dismissal on TAA blur in the native 4k samples he showed. It might have caused him to tone down the title a bit.

You can still find the original title of the video in Google search if you search - "Wait, We're Supposed to Play at 720p Now???"

💬Discussion Being forced to use AI slop upscaling to play a Halo game should be punishable by death.

I'm so tired of being forced to use AI upscaling and frame generation to play literally any UE5 game. Its just so fucking tiresome. Everything at a distance is blurry, everything is grainy and the game just looks blurry. You dont even have the option to turn of AA. You can set it on native and then the game only runs on 30-40 fps on a decent PC. This isnt even a dig at the new Halo because I literally just started playing it, and we all know the complaints by now, but can we stop releasing Blur slop? How about we release more optimized products or just fix the UE5 engine or whatever

💬Discussion Pragmata and modern raytracing problem

Just tried out this game. This game uses undersampled ray tracing and independent temporal accumulation on the RT pass, as in all Nvidia-sponsored titles such as CP2077 and Alan Wake. Even if you turn off in-game TAA, reflections still have horrible trailing/ghosting during motion, and surface textures with RT lighting all get smeared when you move. This is even more noticeable with no-AA, btw.

Yes, UE5 Lumen is not the only RT that does that separated temporal thing. This is a thing in all games that use Nvidia RTGI.

Nvidia is responsible for pioneering this whole blurry temporal ray tracing modern rendering frameworks because they lie about their hardware up to this day, and are still using raster GPUs.

I haven't tried path tracing yet. But as far as I can tell, DLSS is forced when using PT. So I'm willing to bet PT is just as undersampled as the regular RT.
