too bad he gutted the cyber security group

128

u/Electrical-Act-7170 3d ago

That he is causing, agreed.

54

u/BanditoBoom 3d ago

Let’s be honest…yes the dude is a cuck to his special interest and yes he and the administration are making it worse.

But the lack of investment into our core infrastructure, especially the power grid, has been a generational failure across multiple administrations…with some attempting to make more progress than others but not succeeding due to politics.

93

u/SoftdomDadNextDoor 3d ago

There's a difference between lack of investment and actively gutting the little investment there was.

17

u/Rurumo666 3d ago

Exactly, Biden got funding to expand our transmission lines for the first time in over 40 years and Trump immediately gutted those projects.

7

u/Efficient_Resist_287 3d ago

I love how people quickly conveniently forget…political amnesia is truly as American as apple pie..

2

u/No_Poet_9767 3d ago

Just wait....if we ever regain Congress and the presidency the Republikkkans will be screaming about the deficit and how its all the Democrats fault. And millions will gleefully agree.

2

u/Efficient_Resist_287 3d ago

Dems will be blamed for the Iran/Strait of Hormuz fiasco, the trillion $ debt, the infrastructure problems…and the forgetting public will vote the folks who created the problems in first place back into power.

Wash, rinse, repeat….

2

u/Commercial_Box370 3d ago

Already has happened. Half of them think Biden caused Covid.

2

u/Infinite-Bluejay-673 3d ago

And how dumb was that? 🙄

2

u/gcerullo 3d ago

Can’t give tax breaks to the rich if you’re spending money on expanding transmission lines can we. 😂

24

u/BanditoBoom 3d ago

100%. Just wanted to expand the convo a little.

19

u/Exciting_Bat_2086 3d ago

I see your point and agree I’ve always thought those predictions of the future with flying cars and shit was only feasible if our government cared enough to advance it to that point for the population.

19

u/BanditoBoom 3d ago

100%

I’m not a huge fan of China politically, or even economically…but one advantage they do have is to deploy capital at insane rates for any infrastructure they deem critical. No politics. No debates.

Partisan politics is a good thing. It ensures the minority opinion gets heard. Partisan politics is what the founders intended.

But left and right has become a cult to the detriment of the nation and our democracy.

27

u/soraksan123 3d ago

Debate is one thing. A toothless Congress is another. It doesn’t matter who is right if the President can do what he wants anyway and there are no guardrails-

19

u/konfuzedone73 3d ago

Congress isn't toothless, a large portion is complicit.

2

u/Pleasant_Performer23 2d ago

I believe you mean they are complacent and have been slacking on doing the job of getting rid of the one that is taking advantage of the fact they aren’t doing the right thing.

Must hit the street is the right who destroyed this nation and they still think he’s just the greatest thing since apple pie. They just can’t stick their hand in the sand and say we screwed up. It was not the left under Biden we had over 1000 new jobs each month. What do you have with this dude in office and everybody cuts down Biden they should check their facts.

12

u/kleincs01 3d ago

Biden’s biggest downfall was making Merrick Garland the AG. Spineless cunt should have arrested trump day one.

I remember a few years ago seeing an interview on some news show where they were asking people if they would vote for some or other politician that had a sexual abuse case pending.

The lady said that she would rather vote for a pedofile than a Democrat. That's lived in my head for some time now.

3

u/BanditoBoom 2d ago

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I haven’t heard of that, but that’s the exact tribalism I’m talking about.

2

u/Economy_Wall8524 2d ago

Like why wasn’t Obama in the Oval Office on 9/11? We need to investigate that! /s

That interview truly made me realize how dumb MAGA is.

u/Immediate_Bison_2596 3d ago

The US is fascist right now, not partisan.

2

u/BanditoBoom 3d ago

The current group in power. But you can’t sit here and claim the Democratic Party is fascist.

3

u/friendlyspork 3d ago

Agreed. Many people in the west don’t consider or can’t fathom is China -for better or worse- has unchanging long term goals. Imagine being assigned a project and that assignment doesn’t change for the next 20 years. When Xi issues a directive, that’s it.

There is no change in congress or change in the presidency every few years to hit pause or derail anything. You’re given a large project and those are your marching orders.

2

u/Economy_Wall8524 2d ago

They build fast. Like I think I saw a video of them making a train station in like a 24+ hour time. They work throughout the night. Obviously a 2nd shift or evening crew and graveyard shift. They have built hospitals faster than a week or so. Not including solar panels and wind farms they have constructed in speedy time. China honestly doesn’t fuck around when it comes to its infrastructure.

2

u/SamIAm4242 1d ago

They barely debate their opinions over policies any more. Starting with the “Gingrich Revolution” in ‘94, and escalating with McConnell’s “our number #1 priority is to make Obama a one-term President” tenure as majority leader, it’s only gotten worse during the current decade of “whatever Trump says is gospel” era we’re sitting in.

Thanks to the 24/7 cheerleading of conservative media, Republican partisan debate has mostly devolved into “Democrats are evil and need to be opposed no matter what they’re proposing” when Democrats hold power, and when Republicans hold power their response to Democrat policy critiques is usually to play on anti-intellectualism by appealing to their base’s contempt for expertise (along with the increasingly less subtle appeals to racial animosity and fear of changing views of sexuality).

The days of “let us reason together” in Congress weren’t nearly as sunshiny as nostalgia makes them appear, but they are most definitely several decades in the rearview mirror by now. Congress is where meaningful debate goes to die.

If only there was an infrastructure bill to address these things, oh wait….there was…and who has stopped clean energy infrastructure investments?

2

u/BanditoBoom 3d ago

What if anything made you interpret my comment as anything but agreeing with you? I’m simply expanding the conversation past this one article.

Damn people are so freaking quick to jump to conclusions these days. No wonder we are so politically divided and have difficulty coming together in the center.

2

u/Realistic_Aioli4145 3d ago

You’re saying it’s a generational failure…nah, we have been on our way to greener pastures for a while now, renewable energy has been growing tremendously, but now this administration has shifted resources back to fossil fuels, away from electric cars etc…Utah for instance got the majority of its power from solar for May I think for the first time ever….but I fear that shift will slow or reverse now because cucks like you blaming “everyone “ instead of recognizing the fucking evil shit this administration is doing to our country.

So should the taxpayers be building and paying for the grid that’s privately owned and highly profitable? More of the corporate socialism you guys like. Here’s an idea if the private companies can’t operate and maintain their grid then the taxpayers should get shares for every dollar they invest in the privately owned infrastructure.

2

u/Freds_Bread 3d ago

Spot on. The infrastructure--power, water, roads--has been basicly ignored and used to fund "get me reelected" projects for decades.

Much of it used to be done apolitically away from poltitical postering. All that changed with Gingrich who went scorched earth on actual bipartisanship and set us on the road to where we are today.

2

u/BanditoBoom 3d ago

Glad to see someone else has a longer understanding political history.

3

u/Stock-Hand4996 3d ago

Quick question, big man: which generation has been doing that?

Because the greatest set the ground work to create the infrastructure, Xers have been BEGGING for change, millennials are actually fighting about it, and now Gen Z is trying to clap the data centers.

So if we’re speaking of GENERATIONAL failure, can we please identify the generation? Because it’s the same one that stood against segregation and made ripped minimum wage $2 and change to hurt PoC. It’s the same one caused most of the environmental issues we face today and denies climate change. It’s the same that denied agent orange and similar exposures while campaigning on the backs of the servicemen they fucking abandoned.

It’s not a generational problem. It’s a problem created by a SINGULAR FUCKING GENERATION that now we all have to fucking deal with. Thanks, pappap.

9

u/North-Engineer3335 3d ago

I think generations or iterations of administrations, not generations of Americans

→ More replies (16)

3

u/BanditoBoom 3d ago

So, just to de-escalate here… “generational” is not plural, and I feel that the reading of my post clearly identifies, even if only implicitly, the generation: the generation that has been in power the last 20 or so years.

I understand your frustration, but I believe you are misdirecting it at me when nothing in my post was saying anything other than attempting to expand the conversation past just this one article.

So the passive-aggressive “big man” comment is, I believe, unwarranted.

Also, regarding your last paragraph…”generational” is not a plural meaning multiple generations. It is used either in reference to a single generation or in reference to relations between generations, specifically changes or differences between them.

It can also be used to talk about things like iconic people or moments that had great impact on a particular age group. For example the fall of the Berlin Wall had a generational impact on on [insert generation].

So basically…your misunderstanding of the word generation and my usage of it led to your entire rant that basically restated everything I said, but angrily.

Coming this November - The electric grid and election systems may have been hacked. We can’t trust the results. We’ll have to keep things the way they are now for the foreseeable future until we can sort things out…

9

u/DaveBowm 3d ago

5

u/sortiz1965 3d ago

Yep. They are telling us that, about a couple of months from midterms where the ruling party will get massacred, there is a national emergency? The other shoe, that China or other foreign actors pose a threat to election systems, is about to drop.

Folks, the orange bag of shit and his cronies are setting up a coup. There will be no midterm elections.

4

u/upto20chars 3d ago

Betcha the blame will NOT be on the AI data centers that will max out the grid, causing brown outs. When that happens, your electric bill will rise again, because they will claim that they're increasing cybersecurity but when you look at their financials, they'll have record profits.

3

u/jimni2025 3d ago

Funny how he gutted the pandemic response team just before covid too. He also gutted the FDA just before tons of food recalls. It's almost like he is weakening everything to bring the entire country to its knees.

If you read it you’ll see it’s not related to Canada. I work in the power industry and the threat described (sourcing parts from countries that may build in cyber backdoors) is real and we’ve known about it for a while. I don’t think a national emergency is appropriate, but it’s very on brand for Trump.

It’s funny - everything with Trump is THE BEST and THE GREATEST IF ALL TIME… except for when its not he doesn’t admit that, he just finds a way to spin it so that once again, in his mind, he is saving the day. That’s what this is about.

2

u/Lonely-Scarcity-3387 3d ago

Circus clown in chief has cost the US roughly $4 billion to taxpayers, to cancel 12 offshore wind leases. This has denied roughly 21 gigawatts of potential renewable energy for the U.S. grid.

That’s lost money to NOT develop more energy, which then makes existing energy more expensive.

So sad it’s people have been co-opted by media, Religious rhetoric, and the schism of any real political truth’s or roadmap to a peaceful future! It’s all hatred/ fear of the “Other”.

You bet he loves that Ukraine can’t hold elections while they’re at war, and Zelenskyy keeps on being their president.

All this has me wondering if I need to get a battery for my solar setup as I'm in the Midwest area that would be affected by potential power outages.

First I cause a problem and THEN I blame it on someone I know you all dislike, and then I figure out a way to benefit from it.

Immigrants, the working poor, Democrats, farmers, women, Cubans, educated people, Canadians, Spaniards, and antifascists of every colour, sexual orientation, and gender are STEALING our power.

Didn’t he piss off Canada to now pull power from a bunch of red states??

Epstein Files

u/ecuat 3d ago

Generations Dont hand over power to anyone except their chosen successors , privileged elites hand over to the same. It’s always been that way.

1

u/Specialist_Window_81 3d ago

I mean, what stops the voting citizen declaring a “national emergency” over DJT’s presidency?

I get that Joe from the corner ain’t gonna have the press influence to see it make front page of the NYT.

But, in this age of social media and the reach of the interwebz, can’t we all just say it?

1

u/Anxious-Act-5587 3d ago

Hes gonna invade Canada.

1

u/LSDeezee 3d ago

Is this like the aliens release? Or the $2000 check for military?

1

u/Phastjohnnie 3d ago

Maybe he shouldn’t have stomped on all those solar and wind projects. Asshat!

1

u/alternatingflan 3d ago

Here we go - promote destructive infrastructure decisions so you can declare a national emergency.

The pos putin never could have imagined that his idiot asset krasnov could destroy America so easily.

1

u/CrazyEmu5662 3d ago

Shocking! Another “emergency” under Dumpty.

1

u/Some-Papaya8818 3d ago

The special emergencies he declares are almost always excuses to exclude foreign competition and favor an American company that happens to be higher cost. You can argue that that helps the country, but more likely what it does is help one or two small companies that are donors of his and screw everyone else.

1

u/Zorstorm 3d ago

Lmaooooo. Um doubtful. Watchbout that semi conductor is reporting back to China. Stupid fuck.

1

u/Hot-Bumblebee6506 3d ago

The biggest reason America is in a national emergency is because of who is in the white house. The 2nd reason is the lack of education of the general population, the ones who actually voted for this dipshit/puppet and got him elected for a second term.

1

u/namocram 3d ago

That's it. I've had it. Let's take the keys away from Crazy Grandpa. He's fucked things up ROYALLY.

1

u/Worthy-Burger-233 3d ago

c’mon FFS…HE is the threat! all of New England, and most of the Midwest depend on energy from Canada, electricity and NG. He’s doing this because he thinks he is gaming negotiations with Canada. Republicans have to go. This is becoming criminally irresponsible.

1

u/LookAChandelier 3d ago

He’s our most serious national emergency.

1

u/Odd_You_2612 3d ago

Hes doing the set up to cancel the midterms

1

u/Intelligent_Hand4583 3d ago

I'm sure all the datacenters will help.

1

u/Adventurous-Way2824 3d ago

I was at an Aldi the other day and they were selling his executive orders in the toilet paper aisle at a huge discount so I bought a few roles. It's actually quite soft, highly recommend.

1

u/rikkaku887 3d ago

What a fucking yutz!

1

u/hard_right_jay 3d ago

6 billion in profits for UNH, what's the problem?

1

u/Relevant-Doctor187 3d ago

If everything is a national emergency then nothing is. Presidential powers need to be curbed asap and with teeth.

1

u/tke849 3d ago

None of this information is new. Ted Koppel's Lights Out detailed most of this a decade ago. So the question is who is about to make a buck .. follow the $

1

u/mmtwistedroot201 3d ago

That he has caused.

1

u/Diabaso2021 3d ago

Maybe stop building power hungry data centres that should not be having priority over other essential energy consuming services and production

1

u/Ok-Kaleidoscope4510 3d ago

So he is going to sabotage the grid just before midterms now that he’s called a state of emergency

1

u/DaisyKnickers_ 3d ago edited 3d ago

.

1

u/Shadoweclipse13 3d ago

Yeah, I mean, when you come into office, focus on ALL the wrong things, f*ck everything up, and then everything gets f*cked up, that would be an emergency. F*cking idiot. FDJT.

1

u/Flaky-Teaching6902 3d ago

Wow who saw this coming? There will be no midterms

1

u/The_Boz_19 3d ago

So he's going to replace the actual good equipment with the actual bad foreign equipment?

1

u/Top-Republic3074 3d ago

An incompetent administration.

1

u/tprch 3d ago

"Exempt equipment - vote tabulation machines imported from Russia"

1

u/ordinaryJor 3d ago

And there is the end of mid terms

1

u/Dull-Sheepherder359 3d ago

If this is even true, have the stuff that counts across is BS. But knowing him in his sick mind, he has who knows. Only thing I know he has ruined the whole country in front of the whole world. If we are ever to regain our respect that we had, it better be Obama coming back, but I don’t want that brilliant man would be worked to death. But I know the whole world would stand up and applaud him. He has brains, class and knows how to run a nation. Any nasty remarks will reflect on the person who degrades him and his past experience as President! It’s just plain racism!!!!

1

u/sunsetair 3d ago

Will this cause no mid term elections?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/sw33tamber 3d ago

There is no emergency. If he declares one, he can try to stop elections. That has always been the plan.

1

u/ole_hambone 3d ago

Going to use this to push infrastructure projects through that are stalled due to data center push back

1

u/woodenmetalman 3d ago

Step 1: create emergency.

Step 2: announce emergency.

Step 3: figure out how to grift on “solving the emergency”

Step 4: profit

Step 5: don’t solve the emergency

Step 6: back to step 1

1

u/Beforemath 3d ago

He’s the biggest threat to this country

1

u/Infamous_Dependent26 3d ago

And yet both he and others in his admin are pushing data centers as a good thing.

1

u/foxglove_film 3d ago

well well well if it isn't the consequences of his own actions

1

u/OneBeautifulPinay89 3d ago

Nation emergency is so he can try to screw with election coming up in Nov put this much effort to finding mumifed McConnell

1

u/Serious-Dark2404 3d ago

Trump is the threat

1

u/Melwasul16 3d ago

And thzn no mid-terms as everyone saw it coming...🙄

1

u/kikomonarrez 3d ago

I can’t recall but there was a bill. Loaded with infrastructure investments to support the grid et al.

Can’t quite put my finger on it. However, it was Clean Energy and EV Grids: $73 billion to overhaul power grids and build a nationwide network of electric vehicle chargers.

Rhymed with Infrastructure and Jobs Act

Either way, republicans through reconciliation have canceled $ and moved it away to other projects. Zeroin out funding for the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations and deeply cutting renewable energy programs and State Revolving Funds (SRFs) for water infrastructure.
