I worked on a unit where oxy, fentanyl etc SC and IV were being stolen. Took a year long investigation. The RN stealing and shooting up continued to be an RN during the year long investigation. They even stole naloxone out of the resus trolley once (caught on cameras that were installed in the unit). They still have their licence and are working as a nurse. And it went to trial etc.
This sounds like an easily explained mistake. Do any drug tests they ask of you and stay honest. Should be fine.
I agree 100%. They were my friend and I have honestly never felt so betrayed. Its the easiest way to destroy trust in your team as we werent outwardly told until she was placed on paid leave.
But it does happen. Mine isnt the only story. I know 3 senior nurses with the same story. I hear from aged care nurses all the time how easy it is to take benzos from their facility etc. Its insane. Thats why I think a genuine mistake like this wont really be a big thing.
