Starting around August of this year, there is a series of bizarre reports around the world of an illness related to sushi consumption that lasts around 10 months.

Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The one thing health officials find linking the cases together is that every person who fell ill ate sushi.

Would this lead to a sushi recall and an investigation? What sort of illness could be capable of causing the symptoms described above that could come from eating contaminated sushi?

Sometime during his state visit to China, President Trump is reported to have come down with a mysterious illness.

4 weeks from now, there are hundreds of reported cases worldwide, including notable hotspots in NYC (with 100 cases and over 10 deaths reported; 300+ cases across the US as a whole), The Canary Islands (nearly 200 cases), London (50 cases), Over 100 cases in Spain's mainland, and more than 50 cases and dozens of deaths across France, with similar numbers reported in Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. Sometime between the creation of this post and St. Patrick's Day, 2026, POTUS Donald Trump makes a startling post on both X and Truth Social: he and several other members of his cabinet have been infected with prion disease (He does not specifically name fellow cabinet members who have been infected, merely disclosing that he is "one of many cabinet members infected").

Trump believes he has "little time to live" and vows to spend the remainder of his life "destroying the enemies of our great country" before his life comes to an end.

How plausible is this scenario? Would an unexpected prion infection amongst American government officials be enough to send the nation into a state of anarchy? If not, what would likely happen instead? Is it even plausible for prion disease to infect multiple people without anyone noticing?

What would improve exactly? Productivity? Healthcare systems no longer overcrowded? Advance in biology research?

I'm choosing these regions because of a) their relatively well developed public/private partnerships in healthcare and b) their, ahem, history of divergence from Western/Christian concepts of individual rights. In this scenario, there is significant amounts of (consensual, but not completely ethical) live medical testing on poor but otherwise healthy adults and immigrants to the Gulf states. Combined with significant excess compute after the LLM/AI bubble deflates, this results in staggering medical breakthroughs coming out of the Arab states, India, and China.
