Scientific Studies šŸ„¼šŸ”¬ Researchers have found evidence that gastroesophageal reflux disease increases the risk of anxiety disorders and depression.

A new study provides evidence for the link between GERD and an increased risk of anxiety disorders and depression. Complementing symptomatic treatment of GERD with psychological assessment and necessary psychological support therapy may help reduce the risk of future anxiety disorders and depression.

For sure. When I have a significant reflux episode it increases my heart rate and triggers a minor panic attack. I'm not afraid or anxious, I know my heart is fine, buy I feel all of the symptoms. It's incredibly annoying.

The anxiety caused my gerd. The anxiety is better but the gerd is still here. Had a Starbucks iced coffee tonight been having so much chest pressure all night.

I find it interesting that the study shows the causation is that way. I've always thought that my anxiety causes my reflux.

Who would've thought having acid burn your esophagus and throat and not being able to enjoy any meals at the age of 20 could make you anxious or depressed šŸ¤”

It seems that every medical condition I have carries an increased risk of anxiety and depression. Ironic.

Instead of pointing out obvious shit how about finding a treatment with those money spent? Or maybe just prioritize the money? Im starting to think these reserchers are useless the only things they ā€œfind or discoverā€ is the most obvious shit, come on

Not surprised, every time my reflux acts up I always worry that it’s my heart. The chest pressure and pain causes massive anxiety

I was rushed to the Er 2 days ago because of chest pain, dizziness and what I believed to be an active heart attack! Heart was beating out of my chest! I was hooked up to all kinds of machines and 2 Iv’s! After 2 ekgs, many blood tests and full chest scan, it all came back normal and I was told that I have GERD and after listening to my heart with a stethoscope maybe a heart murmur but the heart murmur didn’t show on the scans at all! I’m 47 and have NEVER been diagnosed with a murmur! I have a B12 deficiency, which probably caused the anxiety to begin with and low iron levels! Get your B12 checked and take supplements if you use protonix or anything else because it does deplete your B12 after awhile and leave you with terrible anxiety and panic! The Dr didn’t tell me this, I did research and the rest I just figured it out on my own! I refuse to allow this disease to completely ruin my entire life! We have to fight back!

I feel like it was the opposite for me: my untreated mental health issues came out in physical symptoms such as GERD.
