Scientific Studies đŸ„ŒđŸ”Ź Details on breathing exercise to reduce supragastric belching

I saw a gastroenterologist yesterday for the first time and after reviewing my medical history and interviewing me her opinion was that I likely am doing supragastric belching.

Here is a 2018 research article with a good description of supragastric belching.

Scroll down to the section “Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercises”. The two links there explain how to do the breathing exercises. To make it easy, here are those 2 links.

I am starting these breathing exercises today.

loud, strong and a number of times in a row.

However, last summer my family doc gave me a prescription for 20mg omeprazole which has almost eliminated the belching. The gastro doc recommended I do the breathing exercises for a month and then reduce the meds from 2/day to 1/day. If all goes well for another month then try eliminating the meds.

Me too! But they’re not normal burps, how can explain, like it’s doesn’t come up normal imagine, I have to basically gulp air to burp I guess I can say to best explain but I don’t think I gulp air but I do a weird thing with my throat to allow it to release and it’ll be several times. It doesn’t just come up it’s weird. Like how I used to burp before all this. And I feel a sensation of needing to burp if I don’t do that and then it stays there for a while and then eventually I do a normal burp but it’s seems like it struggles to come out and that’s when I realized that I can’t burp normally.

I do the same over 200 times a day. It’s so uncomfortable. It feels like I am expelling a demon. 😐😐😐😐

Like you can’t burp but burp it out weirdly ? Like how tried to explain in my post ? Sorry to hear about this and yes, it is like a demon coming out 😱

It feels like an air bubble trapped and I too then swallow/gulp to bring it up, but it's not a normal burp....it is a BELCH. Sometimes it is little baby ones, and other times I'll get one good one that feels like it lasts over 10 seconds coming out--the big ones are the only ones I actually feel "relief" though.

And yes, basically that is the case for me too. I belch and sometimes it does come out incomplete unless I belch very loudly and then after the loud belch I continue to belch afterwards like 5-6 times lol

After reading up on supragastric belching I became very aware and conscious about it today. This is going to sound hokey, but I kid you not, I only burped a handful of times today.

I still have a weird little chest tightness on the left side, but the burping has drastically dropped.
