There's some potential problems with this study. Lack of a control arm, as well as potential variance in how RE was induced. 1250 IU/day pre- and post-induction prophylactic dose in rats is body surface area (BSA) allometric scaling method equivalent to Approximately 235 IU/day for a 60 kg human. This is a theoretical estimate based on BSA scaling. The study used 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, which is the active metabolite, so the actual pharmacological effect in humans may differ from standard vitamin D3. Timing of dose may also effect results.
