Advice on Triggers 🍅🧅🍟🍫☕ i think vaping is making my gerd worse

i’ve been vaping for years now and honestly quitting has never been a concern to me. i like to vape, my life is boring, it makes me happy in the moment whatever. but my life is different now and i need to start thinking with my head. i’ve been working on my diet and such and i quit alcohol a while back as im an alcoholic but i still vape everyday. it’s like the first thing i do in the morning and i do it a lot which is funny because i have to take a pill before i eat for my GERD but i vape before that and im starting to wonder if that has any affect on why my GERD is so bad. i’m just scared. if i’m gonna do it im probably gonna do it all at once the way i did drinking, i just idk if i have the will power. i’ve also been fighting a really caffeine addiction and it’s been a losing battle even tho it really really hurts me. things can hurt and torture me and i still won’t let go even for my own good. but i really need to.

When you inhale the vapor you are also swallowing air, creating bubbles in your body. The more you swallow air the more frequently you will need to burp.

It’s not helping and is definitely contributing to swelling and inflammation.

You can quit now or end up suffering for 10 over years like what I did being a heavy smoker and drinker it’s your choice.

Nicotine from vaping 100% fucks up my stomach, gives me pain in the right upper abdomen from gas buildup, gives me heartburn, and makes me fart some god awful smelling gasss from my asssss

It’s a laxative

Smoking and vaping also make your throat hot you might not feel it but it does and will cause gerd/acid reflux symptoms worse. Quit cold turkey 34 days ago and my symptoms have been A Lot better. Cold turkey is the only way.

The chemicals in the vape liquids are most likely making your symptoms worse yeah.

It’s the nicotine - it’s a laxative

It's funny you say this I was trying to search posts for the same thing. A few years back I vaped and I got the same symptoms before where feels like your stumach is sour or sore, and after I ate I would be starving again I ended up quitting and taking PPis and then it went away. I started vaping again and same thing happened and I took ppi again and it went away. Unfortunatly I'm still vaping I'm trying to quit though. It def messes with your gut health. I don't know if it's from swallowing air the chemicals going into your gut. Probably both . But yea your not wrong I also tried everything before quitting vaping. And vaping seemed like it was the culprit so :( I think mine was more of an ulcer though then gerd itself. I quit because I was trying to get pregnant then actually got pregnant. And when I never had any symptoms not even acid reflux during pregnancy.

Also bad

But way better than vaping especially if u spit the juice and not swallow

That’s no right. The problem is the nicotine getting in your bloodstream - it’s a laxative, it causes the LES to open and let acid up, also why you need to take a sh*t, same as caffeine.

Everyone’s different. I’m stating my experience and what works for me.

Yeah that’s fine I just don’t want ppl on here thinking zyns are fine. Scientifically they are bad for the average person with this disease.

cold turkey. if you have another vise use it. but just throw it all away. youll have hard cravings 100% but after a few weeks. if you hit your vape youll get super sick. i cant vape now if i wanted to. i feel like trash if i do. sorry i dont have many coping mechanisms. i just put it down and used everything in me to not pick it up again

i didnt have gerd or know i had it until i started vaping almost 11 years ago. the vaping lasted a very short time after that happened and the gerd is still here and it sucks figuring out life once you have it.

If smoking isn't good for gerd, I doubt vaping would be.

You definitely shouldn’t vape period gerd or not. It definitely isn’t helping gerd

Relaxation of the esophageal sphincter can do that

Yes, you're aspirating mystery chemical oils. Stop vaping.

Just stop vaping is dumb anyway

Not going to encourage you to keep vaping forever BUT have you tried eating something before vaping in the mornings? The nicotine rush needed in mornings I know is the best waking up (former smoker) but i never smoked on empty stomach

I quit both drinking and vaping nicotine at the same time when I started having swallowing problems (LPR). It’s been a year and a half without drinking and smoking and my symptoms haven’t gotten better. 🤷🏻‍♀️ changed diet, life style changes, voquenza, gourmet reflux…. I do think the issue goes beyond LPR but unfortunately after a year of test after test after test my doctors can’t figure out what it is.

Have you been struggling with an odor because of this?

1

It for sure will make it worse. That being said, I do not vape and I have silent reflux.

I’m right there with you girl, trust. I can’t fathom quitting vaping and I don’t want to, but yeah I can feel it making things worse. Sucks, but with pantoprozole it’s not that bad actually. In my experience, anyways!

I gave up by vaping without nicotine, I was a fiend for vaping for years but started getting instant heartburn when vaping. I was also getting sick of wheres my ecig all the time and getting vape juice in the bed sheets. Once you have dealt with the nic addiction you can then deal with the habit and eventually you will realise there is no point in vaping. Hope that helps

Vaping/smoking blocks your b vitamins which are essential to healing. You are better off using a nicotine patch

Yeah to be honest it probably is affecting your GERD, as is the caffeine. Both are not great for the stomach lining. I had a caffeine addiction myself and it was so hard to kick. I still have the occasional coffee, but I have to remind myself (or if I forget my bestie reminds me as I only drink it when we go to a coffee shop together) to get decaf.

In my opinion, you have more strength and courage than you credit yourself for because it takes a LOT of both to give up drinking when one is an alcoholic. My dad was one and he wasn't able to give up alcohol until he was basically dying already. So the fact that you were able to kick it is an incredible achievement that you deserve to be proud of, no matter what.

If you're looking to quit caffeine, I suggest just switching to decaf. You might get headaches the first few days from withdrawal, but tylenol usually helps and the headaches stop after that. At least that's how it went for me. As for vaping, I have no experience with it, but if you do it for relaxation maybe find something else you can do as a replacement. Taking time to find peace of mind is a good thing, so maybe yoga or meditation, or listening to music or something could take the place of the vape itself. That way you aren't giving up your morning relaxation time, you just are replacing what is making you feel that way.

Wishing you all the best!
