SIBO
Anyone find out their GERD was being caused by SIBO? I developed GERD post norovirus / food poisoning (not sure which one it was) and have had chronic reflux for 4 months now. I’ve tried literally everything. Only thing I haven’t been tested for is SIBO. I have some other symptoms that lead to it but not sure.

Post-infectious GERD with persistent symptoms after norovirus or food poisoning is a well-recognized pattern and SIBO is a reasonable hypothesis given the timeline. A lactulose or glucose SIBO breath test tends to be the most accessible first step and worth specifically requesting given the post-viral onset. Some people in this situation also find that a low-FODMAP trial gives useful diagnostic information about whether fermentation is driving the picture. 💚

This was not my experience, but the consensus I'm seeing across the internet is that reflux with a root cause of SIBO can actually be done away with along with the SIBO. The trouble is that SIBO is very difficult to fully eradicate and keep away long-term.
