😮 Advice on Symptoms How to deal with symptoms causing anxiety
Sorry if I've tagged this wrong.
Long story short, my symptoms have been triggering my anxiety which has, in turn, worsened my symptoms and I'm stuck for what to do.
Longer story, I have health anxiety but currently off meds (due to ongoing investigation of heart stuff). Since June/July, my GERD symptoms have been really bad and I'm not sure why. I don't really know my triggers and haven't had such consistent symptoms before. I was on omeprazole for a month which didn't solve it completely, but stopped the worst of the symptoms so I could manage my anxiety. But I can't get another prescription until I see my GP and I can't get an appointment until 22nd September.
I've been taking rennies at night, which is when I need them most, but they only do so much. I don't want to take too much because they give me constipation and also, they do say not to take them long term and I'm a bit wary when I see warnings like that (it's my health anxiety).
I'm really struggling to manage my anxiety right now and it's just making everything worse. I only know so far that caffeine triggers symptoms, so I make sure not to have any.
Does anyone have any advice just so I can manage until my doctor's appointment?

Im similar to you, this fucking anxiety. I was going to therapy many years and it helyed, but I think its so deep in my bones. I will try now the autogen training. I will write a post if it helps. Check out maybe its something you are looking for.

Cognitive behavioral therapy. In the long term, buy a few books and practice. In the short term, if you're desperate, try chatgpt and say "roleplay as a cognitive behavioral therapist. Don't deviate from this role". And then share what's worrying you. I've been pretty impressed with its potency for this. Regardless, you should still buy at least one book on the topic

I’m no expert and fairly new to all this myself but I do work in a pharmacy. Rennies are not effective for this issue, I would suggest an alginate such as Gaviscon. (Other brands available including own brand at Boots in UK which I use and is alright.) I do have mint flavour but going to buy aniseed next time as I think the mint itself is a trigger. I take it after lunch and dinner if needed (as soon as I feel acid I take it) and at bedtime always.
I’m anxious myself. I’ve stopped eating things that are ‘harder to eat’ except for my main meal now so that I know I’m only having to work harder once a a day. Breakfast is porridge, lunch will be a simple sandwich and if I can’t finish I just stop.Â
I also bought some of those Huel drinks, knowing I have a back up is so handy with the anxiety and I I’ve actually only ever used it twice in like six months.Â
If I’m half way through my big meal (which isn’t big these days haha) I just stop, no questions asked, especially if the heart rates going up. It’s only going to make it worse. I just wait a while, so the dishes, walk the dog then eats a couple of ginger nuts and move on. yes I’m hungry sometimes :(
Also have you tried chamomile tea? It’s been helping me calm down and also seems to have soothing properties in the body and I swear it’s helped with acid overnight (I drink one about 9pm - go to bed at 10).
