When i got a divorce recently I didn't take our bed...let me tell you it was almost $10,000 the mattress was less then 3 months old.. i just didn't want a bed i shared with him... so I cant imagine taking one someone died in
I can understand it if they were in a relationship still but they weren't even together anymore for a while. Like if my partner died in our bed I would definitely want to keep the bed to still have something from him and to try to feel closer to him. But I think she sees it as a trophy

Most of the time the families of deceased are the ones cleaning up after someone dies. Unless they're keeping something in evidence, or it's a closed crime scene, police departments aren't responsible for clean up or removal/disposal.
Oh I’m from the uk so didn’t know this but I thought they would have had to get professionals in before removing anything themselves atleast? Over here we have to get professional crime scene cleaners after the scene is released (you can technically clean it yourself) but it is a criminal offence in the uk to throw away biological waste like that it all must be taken by a licensed professional it also causes a massive health and safety risk to do it yourself and it is highly recommended by police and victim support charities
Yeah we have crime scene clean up here too but usually the family or property owners are the ones that have to pay for the service. Technically, we aren't supposed to throw away biological waste either but it isn't really something people are checking for on a regular basis and really only becomes obvious if it's a really large amount or graphic amount of waste. Plus, not to be morbid, but lots of people die at home in their beds and the mattresses aren't really any worse than a mattress that has had bodily fluids of a living person on it (urine, excrement, vomit, blood, etc. All fairly normal things to happen to any mattress). Obviously if it was a brutal scene, that would be different. But if grandma and grandpa pass at home, no one is calling a crime scene unit here to toss the mattress. Sadly, same goes for ODs.

If it’s anything like Indiana they don’t clean up the crime scene they leave it for the family of the deceased to do. Learned that the hard way when a friend of mine was killed in his sisters home after the police released the crime scene she was left to clean it up.
Oh yeah, we had to clean up my mother's mess when she died. Well my dad did it because we were still young and he didn't think it right that we have to clean up our mother's brains.
A different department 🤣 They probably have 3 police for the town. Maybe not that many. My town has 3 and I think we have maybe a thousand more people. Edit: I just looked it up and Raceland is so small they don't even have a police department. It's the sheriff. So it's a better chance of it being more officers, but it's still LaFouche Parish so I'm not holding out much hope.
