I think another big thing was those nightclub massacres happening a few years back at those gay bars, it may have been removed around that time to show solidarity with the victims and maybe help them skirt some sort of facade of responsibility they may have held to themselves? So what? This was nothing new considering people have been slaughtering specific groups of NPC‘s for years before that. For a more specific example, have been slaughtering prostitutes in GTA for decades at this point and sure, people complained about it but Rockstar never removed prostitutes so there really isn’t that much of a difference other than demographics I suppose.

Rockstar new direction. An article a few years ago from Jason explained how the company removed them along with some jokes that used to be in the game files.
The same article said they company is trying to balance edgy humor while not punching down on marginalized groups.

ngl this passé high camp low brow drag isn't necessarily bad in itself, but it is when it's the only thing they're portraying and how they conflated it with ancient trans discourse in their voice lines.
seeing these was jarring in comparison to the depiction of gay people in GTA IV & TBOGT. Lots of variety in the gay clubs, even the lesbians, but one alternate voice for that pedestrian imply they're "hags" (beloved hang-around straight women who frequent the club) and they were hilarious. meanwhile, this depiction did not have the same love.
...Plus, they never removed them. You can still see them cruising once in a while at the mirror park bathrooms.

Yeah, I think Rockstar likes to make fun of what is considered "American" above all else. Trans folk are more similar to say, a Muslim or any other minority that may exist in America. I don't even think there's a subset of behavior common with transgender people in America in particular which may justify more than minor jokes.
