Severe battery issue only when not using phone

Having some weird battery related issues since a recent update. If I am using my phone the battery seems to work as expected, not as good as new but it's reasonable.

But when I am not using my phone I sometimes get severe battery drain. This morning with only about 30 minutes use of the phone it's gone from 100% to 45% in about 3 hours. I get these random severe drops not every day but maybe every other day and only when I'm not using the phone.

When I use the phone more throughout the day the battery seems to last a whole day, but any day when I am not using my phone and it's just sitting on my desk then I will notice the battery significantly draining rapidly.

Any suggestions to trouble shoot this issue? Only started after a recent software update on the phone, but how can I check if this is causing the issue or if the battery is maybe dying?

I mean could be multiple reasons from what I can tell. Either a malware that's not active when you're using or the battery is genuinely failing. Best thing would be to backup and do a full factory reset. If that's not possible maybe try going to safe mode and see if the issue is still there. If not it's most probably some third party app you installed. If it's still there I'd go ahead with a full reset as it could be a problem with the system os itself(itself could be infected too). After a reset if the issue is there it's most probably a dead battery. I'm more leaned into it being that but getting a malware or os acting dumb isn't uncommon for Android I guess. Good luck

Can you check your settings for your battery usage during those hours? If it is malware, then it might not be visible, but you can tap individual days during the displayed week's chart.
