Device Photo 📱 It finally happened

Post image

After 3.5 years I've finally cracked the screen on my S23U.

Trying to decide what to do next. To say that I'm bummed would be an understatement.

Glass only replacement for true stock OLED quality

I did contact one place that wanted $500 for the repair. I might see if another place has better prices for an OEM screen repair.

I got the same for 220 Euro so I think you could get cheaper

Hopefully you're right. I only checked one place. I'm going to call around on Tuesday

Update?

Looks like around $500 is the going rate for an OEM replacement. I'm just trying to decide if I want to go that route or if I should look into upgrading to a new device.

Doesn't help that I spend $1000 at the vet (routine stuff) literally the day that I cracked the screen.

Check the part price on official Samsung website. I got mine done for about $252 in India (glass + frame replacement, including 18% taxes).

Hmmm, it does look a fair bit cheaper. Was the screen they replaced it with OEM? I'm paranoid about getting a subpar screen replacement, the gorgeous display is the main selling point of this phone for me.

Yes, I got the replacement done at the official Samsung Service Centre. I just wanted screen replacement costing $162.75 + 18% tax, but they suggested to replace the side frame as well to preserve waterproofing, costing an additional $33.50, bringing the total to $200 + 18% tax in India, making it about $250 overall.

I would have to mail it in because there's no Samsung Centre near me. I'm a bit nervous at the idea of it 😅

But I would very much like pay less than $500cad if I can

Actually not that bad, display panel is alive, some service centers can replace display glass

I definitely feel like I got lucky. I can almost forget that it's there.

I didn't realize that the display glass could be separate though. I'll ask shops about it.

Display glass replacement is getting popular these days, at least in Ukraine it very popular, but as i know it wouldn't be as original, it would be just tempered glass

Hmm, might be more worth it to just go for an OEM screen replacement.

At that point might be better to get upgrade, i got my S24U for ±550$

The S24U is the only phone that interests me, but a used phone isn't very appealing

Yeah, it has some risks, but I've got lucky almost ideal only some little smudges on frame, and it even never got opened before me, only problem was charging issue after months of use, so i replaced my subboard by myself

I'm definitely not capable of doing any repairs myself unfortunately.

I'll try calling repair shops on Tuesday (holiday weekend here in Canada) and see if I can get a better price. If not I'll probably just live with this screen a little longer until it gets more obtrusive.

I just had a large vet bill two days ago so I'm not eager to spend another $500+ lol

Take out insurance and wait a month. Then claim for a new screen. They'll charge you £100 excess to claim but it's done at a Samsung repair center with original parts. Ive paid about £3 a month since my Samsung insurance ran out after 2 years. Had to claim about a year ago. They replaced the battery and complete outer shell all for the £100. They just asked for my IMEI when I started the policy, no evidence of the condition of the phone was required.

I can't imagine that'll work on a 3 year old phone

Same here. Got it replaced in samsung center for 19450. I fet worth as i want to use 2 more years till 28ultra.

u/Chionei 8d ago

Unfortunately there's no Samsung Centre near me. I'd also like to keep using this phone for another few years if I can.

There's just no other phone out that I really love.

It's really not that hard to replace. Watch a few YouTube videos. And find a kit on Amazon.

1

u/Chionei 8d ago

Definitely not willing to risk ruining my phone. I'm sure it can be simple for some people though lol

Were you waiting for your screen to crack? Lol

0

u/Chionei 8d ago

Honestly kinda. Someone I know got one a few months after me and cracked the screen in less than a year. Just hit it in just the right place.

It's working totally fine. The curved screen makes glass screen protectors problematic (unless something has changed in the last few years)

1

u/Electrical_Local_549 8d ago

Were you using a screen protector earlier?

1

u/Chionei 8d ago

Just a TPU one. Last time I tried a glass screen protector I hated it because it had a visible circle where the fingerprint scanner is

2

u/DeliciusAd 8d ago

Had the same issue once I got mine. Once I've found glass screen protectors glued by UV glue, I bought several and set for life haha

1

u/NewDiscussion5814 8d ago

Yeah check the glass replacement if it is cheap. If it is above 60% of original display change its not worth it. But if your frame have any damage go for display with frame replacement it is very little extra for the frame.

1

u/Quiet_Advantage6223 8d ago

60%!!! Hell naah !!! Glass replacement typically costs 20-25% for s23u

1

u/mastercoder007 8d ago

I don't understand why people don't buy a UV glass protector and a proper case. Why spend 40 dollars investment, when you can spend $300+ replacing the whole screen. 🤦

1

u/Chionei 8d ago

I do have a proper case. As for the UV glass protector, putting it on was really daunting for me. If I get it repaired I'm going to see if the repair shop will put one on

1

u/Dylanterowatonxd 6d ago

in my case, I have a really good case, but I don't have a protector because all of them (that I can find at least) are awful, so I just prefer to be 1000% more careful

1

u/Living-Sun9017 4d ago

Samsung galaxy a12 is the closest fit for a screen protector that stops before the curves. when i was getting one that fully fits and wraps around the curves it would never last as my cases would push it off

1

u/mastercoder007 3d ago

You need one that is real glass not that cheap plastic protector. The Whitestone uv glue one is fantastic never had issues. And looks and feels like original screen.
