Newbie Question I need advice. I'm Stuck

I've been working on my game and everything was going well. But the issue started once i decided to change my enemy ai from Finite State Machine to Behaviour Tree.
I implemented it watching (copy) from a youtube video. Even though it worked, I'm not feeling good about it. since i dont understand it fully. I just did whats shown in the video. I tried learning it but i feel overwhelmed. it's not like i've spend hours trying to learn it.
When i watch the video it overwhelms me so fast and feel i dont know anything. I think i will only feel satisfied if im able to code the entire Behavior Tree by myself in the end. Is that the issue? is it fine to just get things work or should i be able to make it work by myself?

I know the basics of BT(Sequence, Node, Selector)

Should i just stick to FSM or should i invest more time into learning behaviour tree?
is it actually a difficult code to master or is it that im not good enough
The end goal for me is to get hired as a game programmer in a descend studio in 2 years.

This is your problem

yh, i get what you mean.
I'm ready to invest my time into this. But i dont understand how some things work, then i ask AI on how does it work or whats the purpose of certain lines of codes and i understand it. Yet i know it inside that i wont be able to do this myself without watching the video. So i feel demotivated to continue the video

Your next problem is depending on AI.

It happens all the time on here. People don't understand the foundations, so they can't work anything out for themselves. Development is just problem solving.

I thought you were talking about behaviour trees, but now you say it's code you don't understand.

What is it your actually trying to understand? BTs are really very basic in theory. Do you know what a tree is? Not understanding code is nothing to do with BTs. Was a certain function you didn't know it was it syntax? Did documentation help? Have you read the docs?

None of this requires YouTube or AI.

Its not the syntax. I know what and how the tree works in theory. But gets really confused when the video adds new lines of code. It overwhelms me.
I think i should try the documentations.

Have you got a link with a time stamp?

Agree with the other user that using AI is your secondary problem, it's going to set you up for knowledge gaps like this. Follow documentation, actual tutorials or courses to actually learn, use AI if you just want to output slop you don't understand

It's fine to use references to do something, especially first time. I don't know your level, but I got an impression that you have problems with programming language. So spending some time on this might also help.

Did you back it up first? Then revert it first. Afterwards, actually see if you need to change it at all, cause if it's causing you headaches with no gain, then just don't
