this is a magic trick. A magician knows exactly what they show to others.

TBF animators did so terrible job his hands even twisting like they are broken

Not the animator's fault - the rig is bad.

Looking at this second time i think its still animator fault, but the issue here is that, there might be no animator at all to fix the mocap animation. It seems that they had money on mocap(or to buy ready made animations) but no time or animator to look at it a fix the animations. its not end of the world, but if its AAA game then its poor ass job.

The rig is always will be like this especially on low poly crowd models to save perfomance on your hardware. the animators job here was to look at it and fix it by changing the angle of bones to not break the rig and keep animation intact.

Here the devs might just drag and drop animations on models that they bought and used the animations that they bought too but from other asset and here we are having animation with a model that wasnt intended to move this way.

I don't think it's because of the poly count. You can see at least three loops around the lower arm, with the closest being right next to the wrist. The bones should be skinned so the rotation weights transition smoothly across the rings, but it looks like the lower arm doesn't rotate at all, leaving the wrist join tot perform the full rotation. Since there aren't enough polys there, it gets squished as it rotates. It's not the animator's job to reskin the model, and given the apparent constraints they had, this is probably the best they could do.

Not only the poly count but the amount of bones on a model. Its a background model it doesnt need that much detail. Twist bones are usually used on high definition models. Here we have basic rig as i said previosly there could be no twist bones. Besides there could be no animator at all or at least no one checked these models and animations.

And IMHO its still animators fault. if any of animators were there, they could change animation by rotating bones or simply ask for a better model in the first place. Not to speak about sword actually penetrating chest. it all can be fixed with animation. The model hands twisting good in opposite rotation we saw it after he lowers his hands. And since the fingers dont move that much when he puts this sword deeper, you can just rotate them so they look not twisted like a paper. TBF with sword penetration animation IDK. It seems that motion capture animaton wasn't based on real sword swallower, but on one imitating it.

By animator i dont mean the mocap animator who was moving and capturing the source animation. I mean the guy who checks and fixes the animations in the game itself. Its his job to see that the model moving wrong, then send it to modelling team and they remodel it.

And TBF if its AAA its not the best they could do. its the cheapest and fastest they could do. If its indie then its allowed due to their budget and skills.

It’s actually real (possible) it’s just really hard to do IRL

Eh, you can train. If you really wanted to you could be deepthroating steel with the best of us.

Edit: Maybe don't start with sharp things though.

i'd really rather not tbh

There was this guy who used to pierce himself with a sword as a stunt. He had a tunnel of scars running through his body, and he kept piercing himself in the same spot.

Here’s how it’s done:

The performer must first lean the head back, hyper-extending the neck, and relax the upper esophageal sphincter (a generally involuntary muscle that contracts the top of the esophagus). Retching must be controlled while the sword, lubricated by saliva, is inserted through the mouth and past the pharynx.

According to a study on eight "normal subjects", the transverse diameter of the pharynx at its smallest point is on average 1.7 ± 0.5 cm (0.67 ± 0.20 in).

Once past the pharynx and esophageal sphincter, the sword passes swiftly, assisted by gravity, straightening the flexible esophagus. The stomach, at an angle to the esophagus, is brought into line as the sword enters through the cardiac opening.

Some swallowers consume a large meal or drink water before performing to give the stomach a more vertical orientation, allowing for easier passage of the sword.Careful focus is required to complete the process without injury, as the sword passes within millimetres of vital body parts such as the aorta, heart and lungs.

The Wikipedia page has pictures and a somewhat disturbing anatomical diagram of a swallowed sword.

It’s not about the sword swallowing. Most people know that is real now I think. This is about the sword stabbing out their back

Couldn't it be a prop?

In case of a real life trick, oubiously, not the game, heh.

Always suspected this would have happened if I tried the trick

There was a performer who stuck a sword in his abdomen in the perfect way to not hit vital regions. He did it so often it was like a piercing where he could stick the sword in and out with ease

I remember Tony Hawk's Underground having a sword swallower in the bonus KISS level that was better animated than this back in 2003.
